I'm on my 7th day with the eGo-C and (hopefully) smoked my last real cigarette today.
Can't waste any money so I had to finish the pack but 6 instead of 20 cigs a day is already great.
So tomorrow, after 16 years of smoking, it will be my first complete day without a cigarette.

For some reason quite a lot of people in my life are actually really negative about me picking up vaping. Comments range from 'Just stop smoking like I did' (a friend) and 'so you replace one poison with another' (my dad) to 'you'll be back on cigarettes within a month' (a co-worker).
Did you guys get the same? I just don't get it you know? I'm trying to kick the habit and I hope the day comes where I don't need nicotine at all anymore but for now, I think this is at least better than smoking.

Anyway, just wanted (and needed :p) to say Hi and figured this might be the right place to get info and support if I should ever feel the need.

Hi Snonster, welcome to ECF and congrats on moving forward. Lots of your countrymen/ women here lately which is a good thing.

For some reason quite a lot of people in my life are actually really negative about me picking up vaping. Comments range from 'Just stop smoking like I did' (a friend) and 'so you replace one poison with another' (my dad) to 'you'll be back on cigarettes within a month' (a co-worker).

As for your detractors...first and foremost I'm doing this for myself- kids, grand kids, spouse, parents...it's all just the cherry on the pie. You can tell these naysayers that studies are beginning to show nicotine is no worse than coffee.

Did you guys get the same? I just don't get it you know? I'm trying to kick the habit and I hope the day comes where I don't need nicotine at all anymore but for now, I think this is at least better than smoking.
A couple of close minded spouses of friends I converted gave the same response...today those very same people are now vaping and analog free with a passion. I began 1 yr ago vaping 36 mg nicotine. I am now down to 2 mg...will quit completely very shortly.

Anyway, just wanted (and needed ) to say Hi and figured this might be the right place to get info and support if I should ever feel the need.
For sure you will find much needed support here from all...just remember sometimes we get a lil' too passionate
The Very Best of Luck to You

Congratulations and Welcome!

When I get the "just quit like me" I admit I am not as strong willed as they are and praise their efforts. And keep vaping. When I get the "just trading one addiction for another" I just admit that my addiction is nicotine not the tar and crap in the cigarettes I used to smoke. And when I get the "you'll be back on cigarettes in a month" I just say, why would I want to smoke a cigarette when I can get my nic fix with gooey caramel cookie?". And here I am, almost 2 months a non smoker.

... Keep with it! I was a PAD smoker and already I can feel a difference when I go up a flight of stairs.

-=fred=-

Exactly , this.

I have only been off the analogs for 3 days now, but I can already start to feel the difference.

I've had nothing but encouragement from everyone around me, but even if I didn't, I'd still keep going just for the health benefits I've started to experience. It feels great!

I find 90% of people are resistant to change and when they see or hear something new they don't want to deal with it. I'll admit I was antivaping untill I did my own solid research on it. Stay strong and don't let anyone bother you about it. You are choosing to make a lifestyle change and if people have a problem with it thats there problem not yours

If you need support come here. I know it can be frustrating to hear from the exsmokers who think you can just quit. I would have if I could have. I tried everything and nothing worked until now. Maybe I am trading one delivery method for another, but my Dr. is thrilled with the improvements to my health. I'm never going back to smoking. I prefer my gooey butter cake from Kick Bass Vapor.

Congrats on cutting down!
I think there are always people that tend to be negative towards anything. My mother was soo happy that I quit, my father had to interrogate me about vaping. They both still don't understand exactly what it is. But like I told them, It's my life, i'm trying to my my life better and if they don't agree with vaping then they should be happy for "me" that I quit smoking.

I quit smoking cigs the day I got my kit in the mail. It has been about a month since I put a nasty to my lips. I get the typical "You just need to stop all of it" from my father. My wife is onboard now that I have shown that I can make it work. You just have to stick it out and do what you want. Don't let the negative stuff get to you. You have done something great for your body and for your loved ones. It may not be the perfect solution but you have quit taking in thousands of deadly toxins.

I have decided that my life is important enough to me and my children that I couldn't care less about the comments from others. My new motto is "I do me and you do you". Plain and simple. And some of the negative comments I get come from people who have their own issues to deal with. My father has high blood pressure and decided that he didn't need those little pills the doctor gave him. He ended up in the hospital the other night with a blood pressure of 207/128. Yes, you read that right. He damn near had a stroke. You do you and let me do me.

First of all congrats on your accomplishments. I have had the same experiences. Most say "what the hell is that?" Then I explain and they are totally encouraging. Others have to always put their opinions out there. Just today we went out for lunch with co workers and one kept saying "Be careful, your just gonna get addicted to that. And why dont you just quit like I did.

I kept a smile on my face as I said I could go back to smoking, have you all wait outside my car while I have one after lunch then stink up the car with that gross smell.

Keep it up and don't let others get to you.

If you're like most of the people here, you won't have any problem laying down the cigs... I've only been at this a week, but have only had 1 cig since I got my starter kit. I didn't "need" that one, I just wanted to see if I missed smoking. Cigs now taste HORRIBLE to me after only a week (20 year PAD smoker!). Not only are you going to make it, you're gonna wonder why it took you so long to find vaping! Don't be to harsh on your detractors, there seems to be more misinformation out there these days than facts. If they give you a hard time, just say to them "I don't want to smoke cigarettes anymore and I've found something to help me quit for good, if you can't support that please stop trying to push me back to smoking by demeaning vaping". Someone else said it already, but definitely come here for support when you need it. I've only been on here for a week, but EVERYONE has been AWESOME! We were all in your shoes, so we all know how hard it is to get off cigs! GREAT JOB - STAY WITH IT!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Luckily my sister and my mum are a lot more open to the idea than other people I've encountered. My sister simply loves the fact that I don't smoke anymore. How I do it doesn't matter to her. That's the spirit ;-)
My mum has heard of it, not all of it positive but she says, maybe the tobacco industry is behind that :p
I'll show her when she comes to visit and maybe I can convert her. Would love for her to stop smoking too.

Anyway, this is now my 2nd day completely without cigarettes and while I had a few moments where I missed a cigarette and probably vaped a LOT, I haven't really had cravings and that, for me, is a good sign.

Saturday I got new e-juices I had been waiting for and they are disgusting, guess it'll take quite a while until i find what's perfect for me.

I'm sure I made the right choice in starting this though, can't wait to see if my health improves. It's not that I'm sick but I've been very tired for the last years and it doesn't matter how much I sleep. Really hope smoking might have caused this and that it now gets better.
And then there's the cough of course, wouldn't mind if I got rid of that too.

All in all, I'm still positive about vaping and if it makes me feel better in the end, I can't imagine why I would pick up smoking again.

You are doing great! Everyone is different. Some folks quit immediately or soon after starting ecigs. Some never quit real cigs and some never intend to quit real cigs. I quit the second day after I finished my last pack of cigs. Haven't wanted a real cig since. I've also reduced my nicotine level from 24 mg to 6 mg over the 6 or 7 weeks since. Actually, this week I've started using some 0 mg nic. I will switch between the 0 and 6 until the 6 is gone and only order 0 from then on.

As far as negativity goes, well that's sort of the way things go with most everything. There's always someone who is negative about things. You are consciously doing a positive thing for yourself, so don't worry what anyone else says. I do wonder why your coworker made such a comment. Did he/she try ecigs or know anything about it?

As far as I know he didn't but he did try to stop some years ago and only managed for a couple of months.
Might just be jealousy because I might actually make it.

I'm on 6 mg nic at the moment, the new juice I had ordered is 11 mg because I had the feeling 6 just wasn't enough but since it's so disgusting, I don't know if 11 will make the difference. Will try it again in a few days though.
I think what I'm missing is the proper TH more than the nicotine levels, so I'll have to find out how to get that.

More nicotine will give you the throat hit, or so I heard. I started at 16 / 18, then moved to 12. Then chain vaped, so moved back up and I am just fine at 16 -18. I have never tried the 6 mg so can't comment on the throat hit with it.

I was a pack a day for 30 years, and pretty much stopped smoking when I got my kit. And I wasn't even planning on quitting, I was thinking if I could just cut down I would be happy. Boy was I surprised when I just didn't even want a cigarette! So, now I am an ex-smoker. The hardest part is finding the right juice to keep you from smoking.

Good luck finding the right mix!

I vape nearly everywhere I go but I don't go many places, home, work, family, work, work. I have had very positive feedback from family and friends. Work however is a different story. Smoking is almost mandatory for the job and I work in a very manly occupation. I get a lot of strange looks. Guys make fun of me. I have even had several tell me that I am wasting my money and I will be back smoking cigs in a month. Whatever...
To all the negativity I get, my response is this.

Me: What brand do you smoke?
Them: (insert brand name)
Me: do you have anything against people who smoke (insert competing brand name) or dip snuff?
Them: No **confused look**
Me: I'm just smoking a different brand and in a different way.

After almost a month now, here are the comments I get now...
Ooooo it smells like cinnamon in here. Yum, I smell grapes. I like riding in your truck because it always smells good and sweet... Etc.

Several of the guys have even asked me where I bought my setup. They would like to get one for their "wife". Uhh huh. ;)
