ok not to hijack with brand names here...but what about these?

Energizer Lithium CR123A 3V Photo Lithium Battery

funny thing, i was in Big Lots (low cost general merch store) and saw these and took a double take. now...i also realize these aren't rechargeable...and in my few mins of searching i don't see any name brand ones that are. they just seem single use. but...in a pinch...wouldn't these work? maybe as emergency batteries if you're stuck without a charger? not that we'd ever be caught without charged batteries.... ;)

i'm battery newb, i was just curious what the story is, if the "inherent danger" with these LI-On batteries is the reason our US battery companies don't make them?

that and it's 2am and i'm babbling.

Yes Flitz, They should work just fine.:) But do not attempt to recharge them as they may explode or catch fire in a charger.8-o

I've looked through some threads here, but I'm confused. Will the Prodigy I received last week (801 with two 3.0v batteries) work with one 3.7v battery? [I ask because sometimes the throat hit is too much for me. I like to vape a lot, sometimes just as a 0 nicotine flavor inhaler.]

On the one hand, on 06-23-2009 in this thread, Steve said:

What PureSmoker Recommends, and what the Prodigy Platform was built to:

Battery Types:
3.7v = Tenergy 18650 -- 2400 mAh
6.0v+ = Tenergy RCR123a -- 750mAh
5.0v = Tenergy RCR123a -- 750mAh

On the other hand, on 05-21-2009, Steve said:
...The Prodigy will be a 1 style volt Personal Vaporizer ... Originally made, to work with both 3.7v and 6.0v+ power, we simply weren't happy with the result.
Thanks!

On a resistored (normal) Prodigy, you can use a single 3.7V battery without hurting anything, but you won't like it as it's too low a voltage with the resistor in place to give a satisfactory hit.

If you want to have use of a large (18650,17650/70) single cell at it's full voltage capability, you can get a switch from Steve without a resistor. They're supposed to be on the site, but I haven't checked availability.

Don,

You will need to order a switch housing w/o a resistor that fjames refered to.... PureSmoker.com - Home of the USA Built PV !!! Shows as an inventoried part. The switch housing simply slides out to replace, just be sure to remove your batteries first so there is no spring tension against the housing when you remove the adaptor.

Krav Maga! Yikes, and I was about to get snippy when they wouldn't take an order over the phone. You see I am a truck driver and only home on weekends, access the net on my palm. unfortunately I couldn't order my prodigy because my browser was not compatable and with the wait time on these things I wanted to get my order in post haste. once casey figured out my handicap we got it done. thank you casey, for not collapsing my throat with your elbow, and for going the extra bit to help me out.

Thanks! How low is too low? 3.7 volts (i.e., the same as Protege) or significantly less?

Ah ... your nickname is Mike, not Strat (as I have been calling you). Thank you for this link!

I've been spending so much money recently on this stuff. I promised my wife no more (for at least several weeks).

My interim solution (for my "pacifier" vaping) is using my 801 attys with my 801 batteries, i.e., a penstyle. I still like that device: very smooth draw, no harshness, strong vapor, and little throat hit (which is good for me in this context).

I would estimate about 2.9V underload for a 3.7V 18650 battery when used with a resisitored Prodigy. Maybe too low, even as a "Pacifier", to provide much vapor.

It is pretty easy to peel off a few bills quick, especially when just getting set-up with a new device or two. Best of luck with your 801 batteries, Here's hoping they'll tide ya over 'til the CFO approves additional capital expenditures. :D

What kinda run times are ya getting with those Walrus?

Ever had any charging mishaps with unprotected cells?

Do you feel comfortable charging them unattended?

Take any special precautions if ya charge 'em unattended?... Like a charge box or enclosure?

I'm getting about what I would get on a single CR123 3.7v in a SD... 3-4 hours (heavy vaper, here). Never had charging problems, my charger has a protection circuit in it. I've left it unattended many times, and don't rush to pull them out when it turns green. No special precautions.... charger is on my desk. Ok... so I don't leave it near the drapes. And I don't leave them in much longer than a day or so :)

This is the charger I use for them:

I tried it with a fully charged 18650 and that's the best 3.7V source you can get, so 3.7 is too low. I'm really tempted to get a non-resistored switch - 3.7V from a good source (i.e. lots of capacity) with a manual switch should be much better than the same hypothetical voltage from a commercial device and an auto switch.

I use these batteries with the 5v regulated switch, rather than the Tenergy ones. They are 1000mAh:

3 Volt RCR123a Unprotected Battery

Ships from the Houston area.

Look to be the same ones as Dealextreme sell (I bought a few, not used them yet). Anyone know if they are safe to use with the supplied Tenergy charger?

The Ultrafire charger is cheap enough to get though if necessary.

Without checking, it probably is the same one sold at DX, but that's the reason I mentioned they ship from the Houston area. I got them in 2 days, vs the 3-6 weeks it takes to get it from DX.

I'm not sure about the Tenergy charger, as I don't have one.
