Did anyone else HATE the e-cig at first?

Good Lord, I'm about to go nuts. This is a distinctly unsatisfying experience (mind you, I'm only on day one, and I'm also incredibly crabby lol). Some hits get great vapor, other hits, nearly nothing. Flavors all taste the same (crap). Throat hit...meh. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's nonexistent. And what's REALLY ticking me off is that I have yet to experience an easy draw. No, it feels rather like sucking a thick shake through a straw. This is not my idea of an enjoyable experience lol. What's worse is that I can't even comfortably fill in the gaps with an analog --they've been making my lungs feel like caving in ever since I started vaping today (Joye 510). Sorry for venting, but I'm rather upset at the moment.... :(

It's going to take a day or two to break in your atomizer and get it to consistently start producing copious amount of vapor. Second, you've got to work through the primer in the atomizer, which in my experience mutes just about any flavor, on top of the fact that your tastebuds are shot from smoking. Lastly since you're just starting out, you haven't perfected your draw yet, and are probably trying to take a drag off of it like you've been used to all these previous years.

Keep at it and don't give up! It will get better!

The 510 does give off kind of a nasty taste at first. I think it is something that they put on the atty. It will burn off after a day or two. All of the juices that I have tasted so far are all kind of sweet. some sweeter than others, but still all sweet.

The draw is a little like sucking a thick shake through a straw, but just take longer, slower hits. When I smoke mine now, I don't even puff it anymore, I just use a long slow inhale until I feel my lungs getting full.

Smoking e-cigs is different from analogs, but you will get used to it and enjoy it. The bonus is that after just a few days of e-smoking, you lungs will feel much better and you will have mastered hotting it the way that works best for you.

I won't give up yet. I made an investment so I'll keep trying. Obviously my nic levels are out of whack, which is making me extremely ornery on top of it all. Plus, I wonder how much of this is learning curve, and how much of this is needing a better cartridge mod, you know? I see all these posts about tea bags and paper clips and straws, and my brain is leaking out of my ears....8-o

Do you just have carts, or do you have juice as well. If you have juice, you can top off the carts. That usually helps give a more even and satisfying hit.

I sure hope it gets better. lol.

I have extra juice and I have topped it off. But it usually only gives me 2-3 decent hits before it's back to hit-or-miss again. Sometimes it's like air and sometimes it's not.

my first drag off the e-cig was less then good. I ordered a 510 just started using it on the 14th. I stuck with it and I vaped on it all day and all night. Anytime I got the urge to smoke I just chain vaped. I swear the only time that thing leaves my hands now is when I am sleeping. I go back to work tomorrow and I have been vaping so much that I dont know if i will make it 1.5 hours till my break.. You can bet your life I will be vaping hard all 30 minutes of every break.

I have to admit I was kind of 'iffy' at first, but I had the advantage that the guy at the store had a sample out for people to try - so it was broken in and all - a NJoy pen style. It was interesting, I wasn't really sure about it, but bought it for all the non-smoking hotels in the south where I was at that time.

My new out of the box one I was a bit dissapointed at first because it was not as smooth and vaporous (is that a word?) as the one on display, but in a few days is tasted really good, great throat hit, and plenty of vapor. So I think with any model you choose you have a break in period.

Shoot, even the cartomizers I'd say the first 10 puffs or so go by before the real flavor and hit kick in.

Take care,
- Hap

congrats scott! thats big! im not kidding.... props to you!!!!! its people like you that i respect because you see the light and stay in it.

Thanks. I'd like to take credit, but this KR 808 actually tastes really good. It was all flavor and no burning and i was hooked from the first drag. My health has improved dramatically. The FDA can bite me!

keep at it! learn the equipment especially look out for flooding the atty.
do you have a manual? they seem to work better and you can drip with them and forget about cart mods. i only use carts when on long drives and don't have a chance to drip. test different strengths of liquids to find yours.
i love the clouds of smoke so i prefer using vg based liquids and have extra vg to add to liquid when it's too thin. if you notice wetness leaking out from the ecig it's flooded and needs to be unscrewed and dried with kleenex. happens all the time. hard draws can mean little power in battery, dead battery, no juice in cart or too much juice. keep at it. you'll get the feel for it in no time. (well maybe a little, but it'll be fun) :)

I just received my 510 today and unfortunately, the first throat hit with the stock carts that came in my kit were dissapointing. The first thing I did was take the advice of some members here, and filled my cart to the rim. All I can say is WOW! Throat hit to the max...and a rather great one, or I mean, great one(s).

Take a break, slow yourself down, put your feet up, and relax a bit. This is not something you can just light up. Your batteries all charged up, a new cart, everything snugly put together. Don't be surprised if at first the vapors tastes awful, there is a primer coating in the vaporizer from the factory-testing, but in about 10 puffs that taste will be gone. Then your flavor from the cartridge will take over, and it will be much more pleasant. This happens whenever you change atomizers. I hope you have a couple extras, atomizers and batteries, they do burn out eventually.
Take a nice, long, GENTLE puff. If you're sucking a thick shake, you are puffing WAY too hard. If your battery is an automatic, i.e., it lights up when you puff on it, then you need to puff only hard enough to get the light on. For as loooooooonnnggg as you can sustain the puff. See, the longer your puff, the hotter the atomizer, and the better the vapor. You may want to take a shorter, two second puff first, then another puff right away for as long as your cut-off time allows. Most batteries are programed for a 5-second cut off time, this is to prevent overheating. Try to puff gently for one-one thousand, two-one thousand, etc....it's a very long time!!
You will have good vapor, you will be very happy, even if the juice tastes awful: but see, you're not supposed to be getting juice into your mouth, that's from puffing too hard!!! LONG GENTLE Puffs.
If you have Manual batteries, i.e. with a switch on them, same thing. Push down the switch for 1-2 seconds, then start your looooong gentle puff. Release the switch.
Keep your atomizer from overheating by waiting a little while between puffs, don't overdo it. Let the juice in the cartridge kind of have a chance to re-wet the tip that touches the atomizer. If everything is making proper contact, the moist filler to the atomizer, and the atomizer firmly attached to the battery, you should be having no trouble at all.
If you're using pre-filled carts, you'll notice when they start to dry out, the vapor goes down, and you'll get kind of a scorched, plastic taste. Time for a new cartridge. Or re-fill it from your bottled juice, if that's what you're doing. You don't want it running out-wet, just till it looks moist.
DO read the manual that came with your cigarette, they explain how everything works, it will make it a lot easier to transition from tobacco to e-cig. It took me about 3 hours of frustration, terrible tasting juice in my mouth, and finally having to charge the battery to go and light up my very last cigarette, over six months ago.
Don't fight with it, if you hear 'gurgling' noises when you puff, your atomizer is flooded, either from puffing too hard, or battery is running down. Take everything apart, blow into the threaded-end of the atomizer to clear out the excess liquid, and then a new battery, long gentle pulls and lots of vapor! Relax with your new life!!
Good luck, and Welcome to the Forum!
