Have you ever had a genesis system before? there's a blurb about it on my blog (lol, and I just was p1ssing in someones cheerios for shamelessly plugging...oops...). Basically, after using both for awhile, I think the DUD is easier to get right, and has one less weak point (the center post) than the Tiamat. If you can get one with the clear tank, the DUD would be my choice for a first genny system.

There's one exception- if you have huge hands or are absolutely horrible with your hands, maybe choose the Tiamat- more space on the base to work with, and it uses Philips #2 screws instead of a tiny little allen key. For advanced users, I always recommend the Tiamat because it gives you more options to mess with different configurations.

Oh, yeah, for got to mention... The draw is pretty tight on the AGA, and could be loose or tight depending on the manufacturer for the DUD. DV, for instance, sells the version with the bigger airhole, while the one I got first from a co-op had a small one.

I appreciate it boss, with the dud is it easy to use silica with it? That is what I'd be using for now.

I have both and if you are looking for a smaller size get the DUD. Both work equally well; and the Tiamat is quite heavy. The Tiamat looks pretty good, thouigh, on a Provari or some other wide 18650 mods!

As for the use of silica wick - I think it works better than stainless steel wicking. The flavor is on the heavy side with ss and it takes more wattage to get it to work. I have noticed decreased battery life using ss wick.

I use the silica rope in the same manner as ss wick - that is, vertically. A little tough to wrap the coil - I stick a long needle down the hole and then wrap around the wick and needle; removing it after making the positive connection.

Sweet! I have a provari and the SB so the tiamat should be fine. I just basicly want a rebuildable upgrade to the vivi nova and I think either way I go I'll be happy.

I like the DuD a little better that the AGA (Tiamat), but I use a SS wick. I think the AGA might be easier to set up with a silica wick.

I think the aga would be a bit easier, too. It has three holes for the wicks- you'll probably end up using one or two of them. The DUD comes with mesh in a kit- so what I would really recommend is making the jump to SS with the DUD and see how you like it. Silica works, but SS is amazing!

Ha, I'm still nervous about SS. The whole oxidizing and what not. I'm good with silica so I'm in bit of a comfort zone right now.

oxidising is no big deal.

by the way, i'd recommend test firing on your sb over the provari as the provari is super finnicky with genny's

In what way is it finnicky, are you talking about the errors you get? I had a few of the errors myself, but it just goes to show that you have some shorts. Agreed, it may be easier to fine tune if the device doesn't power down all the while you are 'tweaking' the coils, but it is better than blowing out, say, a standard Ego. It is said that the Ego Twist is short protected and I do use one occasionally to set up a ss wick.

I went with the DUD from DV and setup wasn't too bad, all you need really is what they give you, a little torch, needle nose pliers and a small pair of diagonal cutters. I watched this vid a couple of times and then did it myself. Just have one little hot spot i need to work out but that's it, I added one extra wrap compared to this guy and got a final load of 1.9 ohms. Just take your time and do it right just like you would anything else you are building and you will be fine.

I'm sure its cool... and btw I got a torch for 8.99 at harbor freight that works just fine lol. I have been messing with my DUD for a while and have what looks like a perfect wick/coil, but it doesn't taste that great. Either that, or that is how its supposed to taste and I don't have anything to compare it to. Maybe tomorrow night I'll try to start over and make a new wick/coil. I just got this drip tip that fits the DUD perfect, its like a seamless transition down to the top cap.
