And they think smokers are stupid

You folks are awesome.
This place is awesome.

This whole journey is awesome.

It wasn't "painless" because you missed them. You may still miss some of them.

It is indeed a profound change, in a lot of ways.
only sometimes it's not easy to know, know that,
even if i know that, ya know?

My wife is very happy for me, (and for her),
but from the start, or even before the start,
she's been unable to resist ridiculing me and e-cigs
because, well, it is sorta funny to like,
go buy a starter kit for an addiction,
or to puff on this cigarette-looking thing and blow out a cloud and say,
"dang i'm so happy i quit".

My body is still adjusting and i'm not sure if i'm gonna now quit e-cigs or not.
Which is actually another reservation i have,
because while i never could honestly say that i "enjoyed" smoking
i do sometimes very much enjoy my e-cig.
But hey we all have our vices and
my research has led me to suspect that nicotine might actually be good medicine,
for me, in moderation,
when not provided in a deadly delivery device
with a few thousand other chemicals too.

Yea amongst other psychoactive chemicals in tobacco smoke
there are compounds which act like MAOIs, (or... are MAOIs?),
and besides messing with your head they can also potentiate
the addictive reward of nicotine.
Whether some companies put a bit *extra* in there for ya,
remains an open question.

Thanks for all your replies.

:w00t: i'm a non-smoker!

I am proud of all three of me (Me - Myself and I) because after 36+ years of cigarettes I quit instantly with the assistance of my PV.

Funny that's yet another reason i'm not entirely with the program.
Because that's a flippin' miracle,
don't you feel like we should have to pay for it?
Or.. if it sounds too good to be true then....?

Not wanting to rain on anyone's parade it's just like i said,
as simple as it can be said superficially,
it can get darn complicated in the darker corners in the back room of consciousness.

They meant the V4L contest. Vapor4Life is having a slogan contest. Check it out!

Really? What forum? I'll definitely check it out. I'll try the search bar, but I can never find what I'm looking for with it...

EDIT: Thanks, I just checked it out and posted my slogan. =D

First off, do you intentionally type like you are making a poem?
LOL you're the first person on any forum to ever call me out on that.

It's how i'm accustomed to writing in my journal.
Keeping my personal cadence helps me
to keep my marbles from rolling about too freely,
so to speak.
I feel the flow of words is a magical thing, and if
creating order from chaos invokes a certain chaos in the order
i don't let it bother me.

Sorry if it bothers anyone else.

Joe,

You just keep typing like that, it's easy to read and I like the cadence too!

You, like many of us, are programmed somehow to expect punishment for the choices we make, I guess it's a process that keeps us humble in our lives.
We don't feel like we have accomplished anything unless it somehow was hard to accomplish, because life has a tendency to prove to us as we get older that you never get something for nothing, so pain and hard work are the norms we experience when we accomplish something worthwhile.

Don't think of this as not being hard work, you aren't smoking, and you will get healthier now that you are vaping, but you still have the nicotine to give up before you are completely scott free. That will come in time if you chose to give that up too, just slowly lower you nicotine levels until you are to zero, then all you have left is to give up the oral fixation of vaping!

It's a long journey, and you have plenty of hard work ahead to give it all up completely, so don't beat yourself up so early in the game. It's your health you're taking charge of now, you should be proud you've made the first step!!

Hey it does not bother me, I found it unique and decided to call you on it. No worries sir :)

Once again, my response was to basically tell you that if you are not smoking -- no smoke being produced -- then you cannot be smoking.

Ahh nooo!

A Linux user!!!

We have been infiltrated by communists! RUNNNNNN!!!!

LOL! - I see you noticed my smoking Tux avatar. I must admit, I'm guilty of being a commie Linux user. Mepis, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and Puppy Linux are my "flavors" of choice, though I do also use XP and Win 7. Equal opportunity OS user I guess.

But *i* didn't accomplish anything?
The little bastage says not,
because i haven't suffered for my sin
nor the moral lapse that caused the sin in the first place.

What's up?

How do YOU feel?
I know of at least one other forum-ite whose conscience won't let him tell anyone
that they've gonna "quit smoking" by using an e-cig instead.
(I'm not calling you out, sir, just sayin')

I have considered a blessed gift from God, an answer to prayer and I will cut down on the nic till I don't need it any longer. It took time to get addicted and it will take a while to taper down. I have quit smoking...I still have the nicotine addiction. One step at a time. Your on a road to recovery. Don't over analyze. Enjoy your freedom.

Your now a FOG MACHINE

BUT NO bad Mojo stuff

Later
Marlbuzz

Dump the christian guilt you'll feel better

Don't want to hijack this into a religion thread, but what if I am a Christian and have no guilt?

Be very careful about that tagline. It is not proper as far as I am concerned. It would be like me having a tagline that said "Be a good Musilm, behead at least 14 people today for Mohammed and Allah"

First off, congratulations on being a non-smoker!

I'm another fan of your writing style, although I must admit that this: "it can get darn complicated in the darker corners in the back room of consciousness."

reminded me of the text from one of my favourite avatars which read:

"Of course I'm out of my mind, it's dark and scary in there!"

Congrats again, darlin' and don't let those little squiggling motes of guilt sneak in and ruin your day. I'm thoroughly convinced that part of the enjoyment we get from our PVs is that we know we're doing something positive for ourselves and the people who love us.

All up in your grill..
Yeah, it seems too easy.
Of COURSE i quit smoking a week ago,
when i started inhaling vapor.

But this forum is giving me lessons in semantics and subtleties
and the question has ramifications all over the board,
including on the legal front.

I have to say up front that most of the time
i'm tickled, i'm ecstatic, i'm even proud of myself
for all of the urges i've successfully avoided these past seven days.

But i've STILL got this nagging little vestigial genetic Puritan
telling me that i haven't accomplished a damn thing.

How can this be?

In the past week, i've...

- Regained my sense of smell.
- Ceased to stink, (i can tell b/c i can smell me).
- Increased my sex drive.
- Increased my availability to my relationship, because i'm not out in my shop smoking.
- Broadened and deepened my spiritual practice, in a fuller recognition of the sacred nature of my breath.
- Etc., and also i have fundamentally altered the premises of my marriage by the above changes in behavior, attitude, and odor.

But *i* didn't accomplish anything?
The little bastage says not,
because i haven't suffered for my sin
nor the moral lapse that caused the sin in the first place.

I am assuming you mean me.

You have to understand that as an industry worker I am in a much more precarious position then you. At no point did I mean to belittle your accomplishment. I see this, live and in person every day. E-cigs have helped not only my firends and family and my customers to get away from burning tobacco. It helped me too! I haven't smoked a marlboro in 11 months! 11 months! That's huge for me! But if tell people hey "Get this thing (that I am trying to sell you) and it will help you beat that addiction." I have effectively just practiced medicine without a license. So I choose my words carefully. Instead of saying it helps you quit. I say it's a better brand . it's less toxic and it doesnt make you reek. Switching for me was easy. I may not be any less addicted to nicotine but I sure do feel better. I know all of those statements to be 100% factual and have not attempted to help someone treat their disease (addiction) without being licensed to do so. You know if more people in our industry behaved like this we probably wouldn't be facing many of the problems we are right now. I chose to do what I believe is right. How have I been rewarded for this? I have the ECA, the FDA and every antismoking group with a website working 24/7 to get me shut down. Where is the outrage about that? Why must I be persecuted simply for being honest and trying to behave ethically?

Well, i'm outraged.
In a kicked-back Sunday-afternoon sort of way anyway.
Maybe tomorrow i'll break something on your behalf. ;)

Anyway congrats, and thanks for making the world better.
