Did you buy your 1st ecig with the intent to quit smoking?

Quitting has always left me miserably unhappy. Yeah I can quit, but it leaves me permanently depressed. I always wanted to sock people who claimed they were so happy that they quit.

I thought of e-cigs as an alternative. A compromise. I did not want to give up enjoying nicotine. I honestly don't think I should have to. The rest of the cigarette stuff I can pretty happily leave behind. And I'm not depressed about it in the least, nor do I feel I've given anything up.

No, it was not my intent. I switched due to all the new, outrageous taxes on cigs.

Now, I should have wanted to quit -- I was up to between 2 and 3 packs a day, and having smoked for over 35 years I could tell it was finally taking a toll on me. I use the VA for my medical care and everytime I go, I HAVE to be asked if I want to go to cessation classes. But I'm a bit on the stubborn side...the more someone tells me I should do something, the less likely I am to do it.

I still have 1 to 3 real cigs a day and I'm fine with that -- in fact, I don't think that even constitutes being a smoker, haha. I am definitely breathing easier now and no longer have a smoker's cough.

I started because I missed nicotine and the nice throat hit plus just the action of smoking. Whenever I would have a few drinks I wold crave a cigarette, even after several years of not smoking. If I broke down and had one it tates like crap. If I didn't it would continue to bug the hell out of me. So when I heard about these, bingo, I can enjoy my drinks more, am more relaxed in social settings. Nicotine is a nice substance and I enjoy it. Coming off nicotine is just like coming of caffeine in my books. And I don't drink coffee anymore, just green tea or raw organic powdered cacao. It does have caffeine but does not effect in the same way coffee does.:)

nope.

and as I just posted in the poll thingie, I seem to have quit by accident lol
30 year + "pack a day" (well, 20 to 40 a day depending on stress) down to 0 a day overnight. I had no intention of quiting, more just an alternative that I could do anywhere.

I'm in shock as are my friends and family. I have tried a cigarette about once a week for the first while, but had to .... them out as they don't seem to taste good any-more lol.

I'm still using the nicotine liquid, but I know I could switch to the 0 nicotine stuff at the drop of a hat.

yeah... I think e-gigs are a miracle with a battery.

cheers,
snuggs

Nope.

My main reason for switching to e-cigs was the cost. Having a more socially acceptable way to smoke in public was also a major draw. I wasn't ambitious enough to think I might actually quit smoking completely, but I did!

I'm noticing a theme here - it seems like many of the people who successfully quit were the ones who weren't trying too hard. I wonder how many people are actually making it harder for themselves by stressing too much about it...?

Tried it all, the gum, the patch, the drugs and when I started learning about PV's I thought "what the hell". So yes, I did start vaping with the intention of getting off tobacco. Guess what? IT WORKED. From the first day, never tried anything so easy. But now I like it...if someone said they just invented a totally 'safe' tobacco cigarette I'd stick with my vaping. It's all good!

Yup. I smoked for about 40 years, quit for a couple of years at a time a few times, always went back. I had lately quit again, but kept sneaking a pack here and there. I figured this would keep me from continuing to do that, and it has. I completely realize I'm just substituting one habit for another, but at least this one won't kill me. I just hope it's not too late.

I too bought an E-cig with the hope that I could quit smoking easier. So far I have substantially reduced the amount of regular cigarettes that I smoke per day from 3/4 of a pack to about 4 or 5. I told myself when the cigarettes I have at home are gone, I will not buy anymore. I still have like 2 cartons at home, so at this rate I could make them last quite a long time. But still, the fewer the better. I have been vaping for about a month now and I am starting to like the taste of it better then the old way.

I couldn't agree with you more! Ever since I started vaping the analogs are starting to taste more and more like crap.

I don't even flavor my Juice. I vape straight unflavored 36mg from TW and I'm good.

Not at all.

I bought my first ecig because of a new job. Smoking is allowed, but smelling like an ashtray next to a student in a helicopter is not. I was hoping I could "survive" the workday (often 12 hours) without a cigarette by using the ecig. By the second day, I knew I preferred my ecig, as tempermental as that "starter" one was, to analogs. Then I went through serious frustrations as I tried to find the right device, the right juice etc. Now I have about 5 devices and 30 different juices and am as happy as a clam!

I still have the occasional analog when I forget a charger and am at a smokers house or out and about, but I could NEVER go back to smoking regularly... Eww! =)

Actually I like the taste of the Fruit Punch flavored liquid that I am using right now. I think that for me it is more then just the nicotine, I like to have the feel of the e-cig in my hand, I like being able to blow smoke and have the taste in my mouth. Fruit punch is way better then tobacco! Plus you don't stink like a cigarette and you don't smell up a room.

Yep, it's the exact reason I'm trying out e-cigs.

I'd already stopped smoking, I bought it with the intent of not starting again because I couldn't handle not smoking altogether. I do intend to cut out the nic eventually and am already down to 12mg and below.

I'm in a similar boat. I'd still steal a few drags from friends when it was too tempting... No more of that ever again.
