It's possible the battery is screwed - do you still get 3.7v from it? If so, then let's do a connectivity check.

Take out the battery, but leave the atomizer in place. Put one lead on the negative battery terminal. Take the other lead and go from point to point checking for continuity (meter set to ohms). You're going to see a jump once you get past the atomizer of 2-3 ohms, and you'll need to hit the momentary switch once you get to it.

So... you'd hit the outside connector of the atomizer, then the center connector (you should see a 2-3 ohm increase since you're now going through the atomizer), then the atomizer side of the switch, then press the switch and check the battery size of the switch and finally the positive battery connector.

Any big jumps in resistance (again, outside of the 2-3 ohms increase from the atomizer) will show you where your problem is.

This is hearsay, so be advised...

Did you buy this non rechargable battery from batteries Plus?

If so, or maybe anyway, you may have a low output battery...

Check the specs.

They sell these as longer lived replacements for standard AAs.

It sounds like that's exactly what's going on...

i think i figured it out. it is the battery.

i went out a bought a 4aa battery holder and hooked up the atomizer to the red and black leads and it fired like a locomotive.

i then soldered the switch in between and it also worked fine.

That only leaves teh battery. i guess iw will order the batters that were recommeded in the forum and try again with the aa battery box.

just does not make any sense to me that a 3.7 volt non rechargable battery would not put out the 3.7 volts it is suppose to...anyway thanks for the help....Mike

I uploaded some pictures, but i am not sure if they attached properly.

One is a 510 which i had to destroy a battery to make.

The second is a 901 atomizer, which was much easier because of the type m connectors you can use to make the attachment to the atomizer.

Both are using a 4aa battery box. The 510 is attached to the out side of the battery box using velcro. This one uses all 4 batteries.

Depending on if you use rechargeable (1.2v) or non rechargeable (1.5v) you can run it at 4.8v or 6 volts respectively.

THe 901 box has the atomizer attached to the box using one of the battery compartments. This one uses 3 batterys.

Depending on if you use rechargeable (1.2v) or non rechargeable (1.5v) you can run it at 3.6v or 4.5 volts respectively.

Both are a little big, but, if i do not have to charge or replace the batteries for a week, it will be worth it.

Thanks for all the help and instructions you guys and girls have put on this forum. I could not done it without you!..Mike

Hi There,
I have just gone order crazy for parts to try building one for myself. But I am confused to what the Power Jacks do? Would these be used instead of taking the connector of a dead battery? I can't see where they are used in the images?

I am just about to buy some from RShack, but just wanted to confirm if they are necessary?

Thanks,
Leon

OK I think I get it. The suggested jacks are good to use with the 901 atomisers and saves having to remove the connector from a battery, but for a 510, the battery connector needs to be removed and used in the mod?

And I will be more than happy to answer them. I am very happy to see you are ready to try making your own. I have watched you collecting for quite some time now. It will feel wonderful to have one made by your very own hands - it is a very special feeling.

Wellll built a Nico stick useing your layout. used, (or rather TRIED to use), Madogs connector for the Atty.( My DIY - DSE901 - MAGNUM POWER) There lies the sorrow.. (sniff sniff). Hope it was just a short in that connection because when I loaded the 14500 bat (protected of coarse) it fried the atty. Before adding the battery I checked for continuity in the connector. Seemed ok no connection between + and - poles but... It fried any who..Question for all you gurus.. The 14500 battery SHOULDN'T burn an atty out by its self, should it? Seems Nico's was wired the same as mine. This was prolly just a short ... YES????
Confused

Without a short, the 14500 battery absolutely should not fry an atomizer. You are sure the atty is fried? Sometimes it can be tricky getting the atty to connect with the positive part of the connector. Another common problem is picking up the wrong switch at RS and getting one that works backwards (off when the button is pressed and on all the rest of the time).

The 14500 battery packs the same voltage as the factory e-cig battery. It should function the same, only longer. If there is a short, the 14500 is capable of supplying greater amperage more quickly, but the battery's protection circuit would shut the battery down pretty quick.

This looks like it would be a great base for a stick I have in mind. I have a couple of questions though. How much clearance do you have between the atty/batt & the top of the box? I have plans to put a juice delivery system up there on mine. I've also noticed pretty much all of the mods I've seen on this forum have the long tube coming out to the mouth piece. Why is that? Is there some advantage to that set up over putting the tube inside the box ala Janty?
