Hi everyone I am trying to build my first nicostick and am doing well except every time I push the center piece into my 510 battery connectors it rips the little gasket I am just wondering what could I use as a replacement gasket? I tried 1/8 heat shrink tubing but it just pushes out when I try getting it in. Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry if its already been answered I've searched everywhere for an answer but can't find it thanks

Hopefully you have some dead atty's laying around. You can pull out the center post from a dead atty, and use the silicon gasket from it. Just work the center post out with a paperclip, as far as you can. The attached wires will keep it from coming all the way out. Then grab it firmly with needle nose pliers, and just pull it free, breaking the wires. Take the insulator off that post.

And if you are soldering the wire to the outside of the center post, you have to be very delicate. You need to use minimal solder, for a very low profile solder job, or it can make getting the center post through the hole (with wire attached), a pain in the ..... And if the solder, or wire has any sharp edges, or just sticks up too far, it can rip the insulator, which is probably what happened to you.
If this is for a 510, you can actually solder the wire inside the hole to the center post, which makes getting the center post back in the hole much easier. Since a 510 doesn't use the center hole for airflow anyway, you can block it completely without effecting performance, and it also prevents liquid leaking thru the connector.

Hey,

I found the size box I wanted on ebay

79 X 40 X 21 mm project box - black plastic case PCB on eBay (end time 11-Jan-10 21:07:02 GMT)

I used a standard AA box for donor parts such as contacts and on/off switch, made the extra hole for the switch and epoxied them in place. It's not much more work than the standard AA mod or too much bigger and the battery life is a day and a half constant use which is useful. Here's a pic of the inside if I can get it to work again, good luck with it.

hey egeek (eking modder)

found the supplier still there thanks

wow! that was a tight squeeze well done m8

just one thing more any info on led's do you always have to fit a resistor ? and did you use same supplier? cant see any resistors on his shop page but has some led's

I will be following you closely m8...lol

Thanks again

Hi marlboro_man, yeah re. the small box mod there was a lot of frustrated swearing involved due to it being so fiddly. With the LED's, you don't have to use a resistor but I believe the LED's will last longer if you do. Saying that these have proved so cheap to make, and fun, that I've only used a resistor on a few. I think I'm daring them to fail so i can make another - but who am I trying to kid I'll do it anyway. I'm thinking a row of LED's to indicate remaining battery charge would also be nice, will let you know if I find anything workable.

.............looks behind nervously 8-o..............

Cheers

If you can't find a tube that works, I've used liquid silicone, but it takes forever to cure. Hot glue works too. You can also use something else, smaller in diameter as a center post, nail screw, spring, rivet if it needs to breathe. Madvapes.com has a how-to section that might help you.

The first time I tried to assemble a 510 connecter, the same thing happened to me... I did successfully use heat shrink tube to do it, but the way I did was to get a tube that would barely fit over the bottom, smaller part of the center post, and slid it up from the wire side up to the T. Then apply heat and push the post down into the hole. It took a couple tries, because the tube tore a couple times, but it did work... hope this helps.

This mite be a little late my e-mail is in freefall

Hi there is a fix for this somewhere ( per status quo ) but the upshop was... In future use glycerine to loosen the gasket first.. check that out on search... and I believe instead of using heat shrink tubing (hard work to iffy maybe) use a silicone mastic like a tub sealant and make your own... I would squirt a bit into the outer die core drop in the inner die core let it set up cure and bobs your fathers brother....

Thats what I would do if chewing gum and baling wire weren't available

There was only one centre connector I took out to solder and found it very difficult to get back in although a drop of e-liquid did help. Have found it much easier just to solder the centre part of the connector in place, a bit fiddly to do but for me less so than taking it apart and putting it back together.

Also, if I don't manage to seal the hole in the connector to prevent liquid coming through I just fill up the back with epoxy, has worked fine so far.

Hello eGeek
I'm still on your trail M8 ,partswise.. and have started the nicostick on the AA x 4,,, 2x 3.7v parallel batts 1 multi atty and a 10mlx 12mm e-juice pump and fixed tube for a sort of juice box, developed as a UPAC ...first off, I have 3 burned fingers to prove it >>>Hurts so much that was one from the new solder iron I got,,, temp controlled beach and a new 2 temp glue gun.. to fix my multi-meter w+ wire..

i dont take apart either.... just tin, both wire and target... lots of liquid flux pen ...hot, clean, tinned, iron. croc clip & shunt..and 1 sec on contact and now i have breath a gentle blow till alls shiney & mirror smiley:)

how you doing? i am waiting on some boxes the blue clear ones if i seem a little odd its i am flying at the mo haha

take care

Hi thanks for everyones help, I actually did get the heat shrink tubing to work a little while back but ran into another problem. My first one worked for about 5 min. Then stopped I changed the battery and it worked for about another 5 min. And I haven't gotten 1 working since. I followed the directions exactly and even used the same parts and made 2 more with brand new parts and nothing. I gave up for a while but think im ready to try again, im bringing my multimeter home from work today so hopefully that helps but if anyone knows what the problem might be it would be appreciated thank you

Sorry your having probs

Whats it gonna cost ya to just get another connector and dump the other stuff for another sunny day

saves beating yourself up m8

I am no engineer, I am a sixty year old gigolo ? but I've converted all my clients ( ladies only Sorry) to vaping it saves me loads of Marlboro £££ after making luuuve!!!!:evil:

Nah! I was joking just keep it all clean when soldering and its either pre-tin always and hot heat on contact for a nanno second it just happens m8 practice always when you got the time tho he he :)

No place like ~/
About an hour after getting all the parts from madvapes I had assembled my first nicostick. I had to use a sharp pointed pocket knife to make my battery connector and switch holes. Probably would have taken about 20 minutes if I'd had my drill.

My solder joints are meh and I just used the wire that came in the 2xAA box. Seems to work really well and looks pretty clean. I gave it a quick test before putting epoxy on the connector/switch and a fully charged 14500 is niiice. Really has me tempted to move up to 5v.

This will solve my battery woes. Now if I could just get my carts working well...

UD.
