has anyone tried to add USB functionality to it?

i have seen a version that has a female mini USB jack that works to charge the battery and turns it into a passthrough basically when plugged in. i tried to ask him what he used for the USB jack and i havent gotten a reply so i was just wondering if anyone gave it a shot.

the main problem i would forsee is having the proper current going into the battery so you dont overcharge it or fry your USB ports. next to the addition of LEDs and USB functionality i cant think of anything else that can be added to make it niftier. anyone have any ideas?

I know somewhere i have seen somebody that did this, I just can't remember what the thread name was called. I have been looking for a USB battery box today, it's doable...just would take some doing! That is the thing I love about my joye stick...but I can't use it with my kr808 cartos because of the airflow issues. I will miss my stick when it comes to that aspect! :/

You could cannibalize a PCC for the parts to handle USB recharging --- PCC Box Mod.

You could use parts from the $13 Digipower unit found at most Radio Shack locations --- Post 86 is where I show how to use it in a box mod.

But ultimately, I think you're looking for this one.

Well, I've built a few NicoSticks and each with an LED (or two). The LED on mine will light only when I push the button to vape to let me know that the electricity is getting to my atty. Also, when my rechargeable batteries have drained to 2.75 volts, the protection circuit in the battery will shut the flow of electricity off from the battery so that the battery will not drain lower than that (less than 2.75v can reduce the lifetime of a lithium battery). My LED will then only light up for 1.5 seconds and shut off automatically which gives me a positive indication that my battery needs to be recharged.

Now there are some who build their NicoStick so that an LED will light up when they turn on the master switch, to let them know that it is ready to vape. This LED will stay on until the master switch is turned of. For me personally, I don't see the need for this but some like it.

To answer your question, let's use a 3.7 volt 14500 lithium ion rechargeable battery with a protection circuit and a mA (or mAh) rating of 900. The protection circuit will shut the battery off (stop the flow of electricity) if there is a short-circuit, if it is put into the charger backwards, once the battery reaches 4.2 volts on the charger and once it has discharged to 2.75 volts.

The average small LED will normally draw 20mA. That means that if you use that 900 mA battery, it will light that LED for 45 hours.

900 divided by 20 = 45 hours

Of course there are many variables that will influence that final number, for example a manufacturer may advertise that a battery has a capacity of 900mA, but that number is realistically lower, perhaps 837mA for example.

So as you can see current draw of only 20mA with one LED is nominal (insignificant) when you consider the much higher current needed and used by the atomizer.

Hope this helps!

I'm wondering... Could adapt this box method over to a mini flashlight?

you could even use the flashlight batteries?
3.6v 1600mAh NiCD Sub-C Streamlight Stinger 75175 Battery Replacement (each) FLB-NCD-1

And use a tube like this?
LumaPower Accessory: 2 X AA Battery Tube for D-Mini

I have not read everything in this modders forum. I could just be echoing former posts. Sorry.

Here's another case LumaPower D-65 Battery Extender Tube for D-Mini - allows use of 1 x 18650 Battery

You could perhaps even just buy a flashlight and then adapt it over maybe?
LumaPower ConneXion 2XAA X2 LED Flashligh Battery up to 135 lumens! 1 or 2 x AA

Hi,

As you can see i'm very new to all this, i've been off roll ups for almost 3 weeks now thanks to the E-Cig. I have been looking on here for a while now and asked my brother in law (an electrical enginier) to build me a 5v mod.
Well i've just got it and wow. It's the size of a box of matches (small box) and is amazing compared to my 510 it has a built in charging point, it uses a 510 atty and tastes and performs better than i thought. He says he can make one that can have adjustable voltage 3v-6v+!!

I could upload a photo but i don't know how, bit a computer novice.

I got the plans from NICO WOLFS post and gave them to him so all credit must go to the original poster. Nice one mate.

Any way just thought i'd share as i'm so impressed.

Maybe you got bigger matches where you live. Can't imagine how you could fit all that is needed for a 5V mod into a matchbook.

I worked it out, thanks anyway marlboro_man.

I didn't have any matches to give a scale so i used a sweetener pot thing. Also a 510 manual battery. The silver bit at the bottom is the charging point and my brother in law says he will be able to put it into the box next time.

I don't know what batterys he used but i've been vapping it for 12hrs and have not had to charge them yet. He is talking about making a solar one that never needs re-charging, an active mind is a wonderfull thing.

The batterys are 3.7v 650mah wierd shape ones, He has all sorts of odd stuff i believe he builds custom survilence equipment. I'll take some more photos in a bit and put them on.

It's a 510 atty and he took the connector out of a dead 510 automatic battery as for the charger connector, i don't have a clue apart from that it's silver?

You should see the vapor this thing puts out :)
