The author of that piece is clearly suffering from a chronic case of rectal cranial inversion.
Now, let's be nice. "Mud" is different things to different people.

The article is a hack job. But the study is somewhat serious, thouroughly detailed and plugged with the pollster/survey magic "adjusting" formulas. A quick read of this journal the survey is published in reveals a fistful of asshats who think they know what's best for everyone else.
I'll review that. Might be interesting.

I agree 100% on hack job. They need to hire competent people to digest findings and report them to the general public.

I don't think that this is disturbing. The fact is a lot of people with depression and anxiety smoke. That's a fact. There's a study where 85% of people with Schizophrenia smoke. Nicotine does have a positive effect for those people. Why would vaping be a bad thing for them? It would cut down on another health problem for them. I would think this would be a positive.

Now, now. Everyone knows that won't sell. The media has to put someone down, infer the sky will be falling and people might surely die if they want anyone to pay attention long enough to sell some ads.

They are more likely, because of those disorders, to have failed in the past, and have possibly given up on the possibility of even being able to quit.
This point could have been made in the original article, but they passed over it. The definition of e-cigarette is cigalike. So the conclusion, based on our experiences, would be to spread knowledge of the PV, which is more effective by leaps and bounds.

The only people crazier than crazy people are psychiatrists. And politicians. And the rest of us.

As a retired psychotherapist, I can state this with some authority.

BTW, Nicotine dependence and withdrawal are listed and coded in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

Ergo...

You don't want to get me started.

The question that needs to be studied is whether the smoker had depression and anxiety before they started smoking or whether it developed after years of being ostracized and manipulated by tobacco control. 50 years of abuse is certainly reason for developing mental issues.

I agree with your statement completely, although it seems as though the original article tried to insinuate something completely different. The insinuation was playing into biases about mental illness, i.e. they're vaping because of something abnormal about them.

It's a variation on an old Soviet rhetorical trick (among many), in this case, if you don't buy the ANTZ line heart and soul, there's obviously something wrong with you, and you can then be easily classified as X, Y, or Z.

But an insinuation it is, I believe. Low, cheap, and rather nasty? Sure. But to the casual viewer, an effective association mechanism.
