I just mixed my first 10 bottles, I know I should let them steep for 2 to 4 weeks. What I'm not sure of is should I take the caps off and let them breathe?

Not everything needs or benefits from a long steep. When I make something new, I usually test it @ 3 days, a week, then 2 & so on. If a flavoring in the recipe has alcohol, I usually leave the cap off & let it breathe for 12, 24 or 48 hours. YMMV... :D

Leave them a day or so, give them a good shake then have a sniff.

If any smell 'chemically' or 'perfumy', give them a good squeeze to get rid of all the air in bottle then leave with cap off for about 6 hours. After that shake and sniff again. If the original smell has reduced, cap on and put away for a few more days (check again later), if it hasn't try another 6 hours.

Different people steep in different ways, I find the above works for me.

For me personally, if it's a fruity or even dessert type of eliquid with blending flavorings that aren't creams or custards...it's usually a shake and vape one for me. If it has some creams in it, it's usually best after only about 3 days. Mine that have custard in them are best IMO after about 2-3 weeks, unless I've used my little Norpro Cordless Mixer on it when first made, and then they're good in about 5-6 days.

Any that have even 1 flavoring in them that contains ethyl alcohol though, I shake like crazy to cause lots of bubbles, then leave the tip and cap off for several days to let it evaporate off. I do put my finger over the top and shake the bottle about 2-3 times a day during that time, too.

I have found the best and fastest way to get rid of alcohol is with heat as it thins the e-Liquid and at a higher temperature alcohol evaporate faster exposing the nicotine to less oxygen is always best in my opinion.

DO NOT heat over 150°F.

Personal experiences from mixing many liters of e-liquid and based on any scientific study or laboratory testing.

I agree that fruit and candy flavors are vapable almost immediately and maybe a little better after 2 or 3 days. Tobaccos take anywhere from a week or two to a month or more to mature. I've vaped some tobaccos that are good after the first week, but really great after a month of steeping. The begin to develop a fuller flavor with time

Try some of your liquid right away, otherwise you won't know if it improved with time or stayed the same. If it tastes good it's ready. If it doesn't taste good may be you used too much flavoring. The DIY gurus on this forum will fill your head with hocus pocus if you let them.

Always taste your mix right after mixing. If it taste good to you vape it. If not steep it. If after steeping it, it still taste bad adjust it. If after adjusting it, it still tastes bad dump it or give it away (Hopefully not to a good friend):)

If making it with alcohol based flavoring leave the cap off for 24 - 48 hours or slightly warm it for an hour with the cap off.

The poster just before me stated to try it did you also assume he meant to drink it. And I quote his responce

"Try some of your liquid right away, otherwise you won't know if it improved with time or stayed the same. If it tastes good it's ready."

Most here will assume taste means vape so lets stop playing this silly game of semantics and go on with the topic at hand.
