Just had a weird thing happen with my Vapor Flask KX-40D clone. I was doing an informal battery longevity test and when the battery icon showed no lines, the flask would fire at 30W@420F when I had it set for 15W@420F in TC mode. Kanthal mode worked fine. No amount of resetting or removing batteries would stop it. I even moved the temp and watts around. A new set of freshly charged batteries cured it and now the flask is back to normal. Anyone else try a battery check and see that?

I have only had mine 12 hours but will keep an eye out for that...nice that you can see the display while you vape.

This was posted in another forum by a user of the ANA clone wondering if it was the same situation as the VF clone.... just passing along FYI:

I wonder if that is the same as the irregular firing I found on my ANA. It seemed at one point, fire higher than selected, was using the temp as the goal for the current. Get to 420 and keep it there. At other times it will fire whatever watts I select and seems to be using the temp as a cutoff point if it gets too hot, using the temp as a governor.

Blueridge,

You'll make it. Vaping for me has been some kind of White Magic... really. I tried everything else under the sun from willpower, gum, patches and RX drugs. Nothing worked until one day I went into a cigarette store and the girl behind the counter was vaping. I asked her I thought ya-all didn't allow smoking in here not knowing what she was using.

She told me about vaping sold me a starter kit and some juice. It took about two weeks for the vaping to fully kick in and one evening I was out of smokes and started to go to the store and said to myself I have plenty of e-juice and don't really feel like go to the store. Short story - that was the last day I smoked a cigarette.

There is something about vaping I don't no what it is except it works. :toast:

IMHO it`s the ritual With putting something to the mouth. Gum`s and patches doesn`t do that trick. It`s something for Your fingers to be busy about. I never thought , neighter want to stop smoking, but it became easy With vaping. I never miss my tobacco.

This was posted in another forum about the Hcigar HB-DNA40....... just passing along FYI:

Just came across a few units of the HB-DNA40 that are showing up with the "Weak Battery" error fairly early on. Units may work fine right out of the box, but when running high drain setups (multi coil, low resistance), it may create arcing at the grounding contact points, which create enough impedance to show the error. The higher the drain of the atomizer, the faster this error seems to occur. More tests need to be done to confirm this for certain, but the half dozen units or so that I've tested so far that bring up this error, it's beginning to show this to be the case.

From what I can tell, the anodization used on the casing is a dielectric, and the grounding screws for the 510 and the battery's negative terminal is screwed in a single time and not tight enough. This may not be enough to break through enough of the anodization in the casing's screw holes to create a proper connection. The small gaps of contact may be small enough to create some resistance, which results in an electrical arc during firing of high drain setups. The arcing results in carbon build up, which creates more resistance, and messes with the DNA40's sensitive readings.

The best preventative solution I've found so far, is to back out the screws and screw them back in a couple of times to break through more of the anodized layer to get better contact to the enclosure. Also, the factory did not screw the grounds in very tight, so it's recommended that they be made a bit tighter to create a better contact. Doing this seems to have solved the problems so far.

Thanks retird...my clone device had/has similar symptoms and I plan to verify the connections. That said, even if I cut it up for a bottom feeder it is a great enclosure with chip included! I have been vaping on it now for 24 hours and must admit that it is worth the investment and then some.

My story..... 2 packs a day of non-filtered PallMall for forty years...patches, gum, pills, and etc. too many times to count.... picked up an e-cig... vaped and trashed the cigs the same day... never looked back....that was September of 2010...... :):)
Good stuff! I actually had my DOCTOR (a well-respected Internist) recommend I try vaping, having had zero luck quitting smoking cigarettes long-term. A visit to a local B&M introduced me to a little EVOD starter kit w/a couple bottles of juice, the rest is history- and my family and I could not be happier. Absolutely the best thing health-wise to have happened to me, not to mention I'm an inveterate tinkerer and tool junkie and vaping falls right into my wheelhouse on those fronts!

I learned a curious thing about the relationship between the amount of smoking and the dependence of nic. It isn't proportional.

Interesting. I smoked 70 cigs a day, but had no issue switching to vaping, and quickly went down from 24-18-12-9mg. I guess in my case too it was more about the hand/mouth interface thingy. I shudder thinking back at the lit cigs that were just burning up in the ashtray... The tinkering also helps, and some days I think I get more nicotine from rebuilding/messing around with wicks & juice than through actual vaping. :D

My wife however only smoked 10 to 15 cigs, could easily not smoke for hours (I would climb walls after 2), but has not succeeded in giving up completely after a year. She still needs 1 or 2 cigs a day, despite me buying her every known mod/atty/juice under the sun.*

* and to make it non-OTT: she's now using the VF DNA40 clone as I tested it out as "safe enough" for her to use. Kanthal at the moment, as I need to do more testing in temp mode.

Yep, the addiction varies and doesn't depend on volume of cigs smoked

Tony,

My sister is a nurse and used to be a smoker. Towards the end of her smoking she was maybe a six cigarettes a day. Not that she was trying to smoke less that is just the way she smoked. To finally get off them she used one of the Rx meds that is normally used for depression. I can't remember the name of the stuff but it wasn't Chantix but some older stuff that they accidently discovered it would help fight the cravings. Anyway it worked for her.

I have ranged from 2 plus packs a day and at the time I switched to vaping I was probably around 1 plus packages a day.

I am sure that the nicotine was an ingredient of my addiction but like wide-O I think the having something to do with my hands, the ritual, the Freudian cigar issue, the visual effect of the smoke... all the things that are a part of smoking in addition to the nicotine.

Anyway when I finally reached the 1 year mark I told my sister that I was not smoking any more and was vaping. The very first comment she made was "see I always thought you were addicted to the ritual and the visual aspect of the smoke. I am not real sure why she had formed that opinion but I certainly don't disagree. Occasionally I receive samples when I purchase juice and the are 50/50 0 nic. I don't particularly like the 0 nic but when I try them and keep my mind off of the zero nic I can go about business or rebuilding coils... etc and not experience any discomfort. But when I sit down to watch TV (example) and my mind wonders back to the 0 nic I will get up and reload with my normal Nic level juice.

Short story a very complicated addiction. But I have watched some shows on Narcotic addition and the addicted persons will describe a similar problem in they miss the process of acquiring the stuff mixing it and preparing to take it as much as the end effect itself.

I have no idea what I am talking about but I do feel it is not just he nicotine and chewing Nic gum just doesn't cut it.

A very long :2c: based on purely subjective opinion. ;)

I love personal opinions. For simple facts I rather check out the CIA's factbook of the world although I've seen a few errors there too [emoji14]

I think I love watching the vapor moving forward like a cloud in a storm and watch it hit the table and create a haze around objects... Lol :D

Back to the clones... Any news about them?

On the subject of the clones I would like to hear Blueridge and AMD compare notes. The over view by AMD if I remember correctly was not as favorable as Blue's when it came to the Mechanical Build.

On the third cycle of batteries in the flask clone...working like a champ.

Blue would you post a ling to where you got it or PM it to me.

Actually I knew you were happy with yours and I am glad to see that continue. My question between you and AMD is that the Russian didn't praise the Build Quality as much as you did.
When I read your critique of the build I was VERY close to going for one. Then at least I'll be able to talk about it without the "VF Fanboys" giving me a blast of their negative responses. Heck now that I think about it $68 bucks might be worth it just to get away from them. :D

I got it at 3fvape:

DNA 40 - 3FVape

You can see all their TP rigs on the link above.

Granted, it is no genuine article, I think the body is cast then machined and I think it is painted rather than anodized (I may be wrong or it may just be the black one I have), but it is a nice rig for the money. Really, dual 18650s, a TP chip, smallish form factor. I would buy this again. I have lots of mods, three working DNA40s (legit) that I made and more real chips on the way, but I don't imagine I will stop vaping this. I actually think it will be my standard rig. I don't know about your budget, but $68 was easy to drop on this (was spending $400 a month on the smokes!).

Ya-But your "I do it again" comment says a lot.

I too use the money I save from not buy cigarettes to justify almost any Vaping purchase I make. I do have a sneaking suspicion that an accountant might find some overdrafts in my cost benefit ratios.

OK I am off to check out the link. Thanks for saving me more money Blueridge. :D

I would love a 1A charger board. The Evolv one at 500mA is hair pulling when you need a 6 hour charge just for one battery.
I had a 1A charger board on my way but discovered it had a mini USB instead of a micro USB connection and thus wouldn't be practical for me (I have dozen of micro USB chargers around me)

Right behind you...
Does anyone know if if the "upgraded version" of the VF clone has .5 or 1A charging circuitry?

I'd be surprised if it was a 1A board, since it was a late retrofit. The main reason I went for the USB version was thinking it'd be the latest iteration available at the time, didn't want to buy old stock with the older 1 second delay from sleep firmware. And it'd be handy to have that charging port in a battery emergency, I reckon.

So there are "older" and "newer" firmware versions already? The older has a delay to fire and the newer no delay?
