I really dislike the chip used in the REO.
So I decided to purchase a dna20d mod and remove the old chip.

My goal is to try and keep everything looking stock.

Hide window and bottom s behind the door along with keeping the side button and everything.

This thread will be my work log.

I am going to try and be detail as possible for anyone who decided they like to do the same.

So to start the log dna20d ordered today.

Dna20d ordered today from house of vapor already got tracking.

mod: black wrinkle w/blue metallic VV REO.

If anyone has ideas or suggestions please let me know. Or if you already know what type of problems I run into let me know.

hey, this is cool, I thought to do the same but winded up doing it with a regular grand instead. I think I've seen one other person do similar with a VV grand body, seen it in the reo lounge thread. not sure they finished it completely yet but they had the back of the reo cut out for the display and had it installed and lighting up, that thread just get's so many posts that I can't keep up so I haven't seen if there was ever a completed thing but might be worth looking for the posts for ideas, was def posted there within the last week or so. good luck with it, nice project :)

Twas I . Here is a pic of the vvreo dna20. The switch has since been fixed.

I did run into a malfunction with the dna shortly after completing the mod, but a new one is on the way. Was a glitch with the unit, not installation error. Its definitely tight, but after removing some case material, very doeable.

All these wonderful ideas and people with vision and skill to actually do it and show us is great!

I also wish Rob could do something like this, but with the new sub ohm kit, and everyone clamoring for more wood in addition to all the new people getting REO's I just can't see how he could find the time! Maybe you guys giving him these ideas with finished mods can help him get some made for the rest of us less skilled without him having to fiddle as much? :)

God bless all you tinkerers!

Mod on my friends Rob is way to busy to tackle another vv or vw mod . There is definitely enough room in a vv grand to make it happen . I will be watching :)

I personally think the VV grand you already make kicks AYuss as it is. Love that bad boy.

I "liked" this because I understand it completely, but I just want to say that I really wish it wasn't so! I understand you have a patent, but I do wish we could clone YOU, so you would have twice as much time. :)

I am patient though, so maybe someday it could happen?

Well guys I have the vv REO completely apart.

Problem there isn't enough room to keep it nice and tidy.

So I am brain storming ideas.

1. Heavy modification to the metal.

Which I want to avoid. Defeats the whole purpose

2. Make a adapter.

Be able to wire everything behind the top black plastic into some type of fitting. I was thinking maybe something from a Xbox. Like a 12 pi. Connector then just dremel the bottom and mounting the adapter.

Take the female part of the adapter and wire it to the DNA and be able to just plug it in. Wrap the DNA in electric tap and mount it behind the bottle just running the wires nicely to the adapter.

Only issue with that is some type of modification would still need to be made due to the 18650 battery length. Which maybe a bigger spring or longer.

Also would have to run a wire up to the black plastic connecting the negative of the battery.

I refuse to do heavy modification cause I'm not going to destroy the appearance of a beautiful device.

Option 3

Place the chip at the bottom.

A lot of shelfs or something g would have to be made for the battery and bottle to sit on. Also it would be harder for the screen.

Truthfully I might just have to shoot this project down.

I want to do it and it be some what newb friendly and not alter to much of the appearance of the REO.

I'm not sure. It could fit if you drill out some of the metal then remove the onboard button off the DNA.

the screen ribbon cable is short. So that doesn't help either.

As said without a doubt its 100% possible with modifications.

I don't mind it but didn't want to go that far.

I wanted a way that kept the outstanding appearance inside and out.

the big "fire" button on the dna board can be removed for more space, not only that but the dna circuit board is only dual layer, meaning as long as you check the traces on both sides you can cut and notch certain parts away or drill through the dna, in particular you can drill through or notch out much of the area that fire button occupied. I did this on mine because that was the only way I could put 2 screws straight up through the bottom, one passes right through where that big button was. here I'm thinking you could do that to pass the atty connection right through the board if you wanted to keep it up top and make it all fit.

I love a challenge like this :) if I see a VV priced right I think i'd consider doing one :)
