welcome to the clean air club :) been cig free for a good 2-3 weeks now myself, and I also get a craving, but it seems to be just a nic. craving, because after I take a couple of good 18mg hits the craving goes away.

If you like fluffy clouds, you should quit reading my post right now!

The thing is, e-cigs are not really an effective way to quit all together, since you will still crave nicotine. And I bet it makes it even more difficult than any other form of quit-aid, because it's so damn enjoyable, and practically guilt free. SO you are substituting one addiction for another....much better one mind you but still an addiction. And since it's a bit more difficult to keep track of how much nicotine you intake while vaping on a daily basis, you need to be careful not to exceed the nicotine amount you used to smoke in tobacco in the first place. Don't forget that nicotine DOES have its adverse effects on your brain as well as constricting the blood vessels, which can be an issue for some people who are having issues on that department to begin with.

Just a caution, if you are using this as a means of completely getting rid of addiction.

It's all about your mind-set. I have cut down from 36mg. to 8mg. I did have a bit of a head rush right when I was starting out only because the analogs were still calling. I fiended pretty hard on my ecigs at the begining but now at 8mg. I'm really OK.

I don't really think I'll be over-doing the nicotine where I'm at at this level. I plan in the coming weeks to try 0 nic. I make no claims as this being easy. Easier than the patch/gum/chantix/cold turkey oh yeah WAY BETTER.

My nicotine intake has gone down I have no doubt about it. I have my equipment at work and at home and don't take anything with me for my commute. That's three hours where I have nothing. I couldn't do that before when I was smoking analogs.

So I really can't say yet if its possible to quit with E-cigs yet but I have definitely cut down on the nicotine and from what I've read here, that's common.

Regardless and you can't disagree this is better than the alternative.

I started my non-stop vaping in february, though I was doing it off and on for a couple years before that. I will say that I had to buy a pack of smokes last month, and the whole pack tasted terrible, right to the end. During my off/on phase, the first 1 or 2 were bad, but I got used to them again after that. This time though, the whole pack tasted like an ashtray. I was glad to be done with it. I was glad that it went like that too. I now realize I'm truely a non-smoker :)

Judging from most of the responses to the OP's question, I'm totally weird.

From the time I was a little kid, I've always liked the smell of cigarettes. And I continue to like the smell. I still smoke a few cigarettes per day (back in February just before I got my starter kit from Liberty Flights, I bought six cartons and now I'm down to three cartons plus a couple of packs) and don't find them distasteful in the least.

But they're definitely in the "take it or leave it" class -- and I have a preference for vaping now.

That's the reason you don't mind it right there. I used to love smoking. Then after a few months of no smoking at all, I can't stand it either. Feeling like my tongue has been licking ashtrays is something I've come to despise. But since you still smoke, you won't understand ;)

An interesting thing about nicotine is that it is not significantly addictive. It is about on par with caffeine, both in effects and addictive potential. That does not mean we aren't addicted to it -- we are, because we generally consume it daily in much higher quantities than we do caffeine in any form. Furthermore, cigarettes contain MAOIs which end up getting co-administered with the nicotine. The MAOIs greatly enhance the addictive potential of nicotine and in some account for the difficulty in getting off cigs when switching to vaping, because E-liquid doesn't have any MAOIs. I mention this because it turns out, when you're on straight up nicotine like we are, cutting down or even getting off of it entirely isn't nearly as difficult as it is with tobacco. It still takes some effort and willpower but if you wanted to do it, it can be done easier than it could be with tobacco.

Now, the phychological addiction, that's another story.

Wow That's really impressive, you still have 3 +cartons after so many months. WTG everyone is different but I'd venture to guess that your lungs are grateful for what you have accomplished.

Haha....there's always the one or two that actually like the taste of smoking...but I dare say, the vast, vast majority can't stand it after they quit.

for me, I can't stand the smell of them, when I am not smoking, but as soon as I put one in my mouth and take a drag the ugly smell goes away completely... lol what a mind game!

I still smoke several a day after a year and a half vaping ... after meals and with coffee. I'm getting to the point where they taste really bad. Most often I will take a few drags and stick it in a metal tube thing I made by gluing a short tube from a wind chime to a metal disc. They go out in about 5 seconds once they burn up the oxygen in the tube. I think I'm to the point where I don't need them any more. Now, if I could get my wife switched over to vaping they wouldn't be around the house. I'm already to the point where I wonder why I lit the thing. Just cause they are there, I guess.

Heh...not to worry. Believe me, I don't intend to find out.
I'm happy to report that today marks my 3rd full week without a single analog. (Since the very first day my e-cig came in the mail).
I still continue to be amazed this worked for me after smoking for many years and trying everything you could possibly imagine to quit, all to no avail. That is, until I found this thing that I can only describe as a miracle....my e-cig!

However, I just can't help but wonder at this point what an analog tastes like now. There is NO WAY I'm going to take the chance and try one, but I'm sure some of you have. Either because it was an emergency of some sort and your e-cig just wasn't available, or you gave up on them for a while, or whatever the reason.
On another note, it's unbelievable how that old habit of analogs stays with you mentally, even if you're very happy with your ecig. Especially times like in the morning with my first coffee, or after a big meal. I'm still automatically thinking for a breif moment: "Time to go outside for a smoke".
In the later years, I never smoked in the house. There could be a hurricane with torrential rain and 120MPH winds, but that couldn't stop me from running outside for a Cigarette.
But after that very brief moment of thinking I have to head outside like I did for so many years, it hits me: "Wait a minute, I don't smoke anymore!" So I take a few hits off of my e-cig, and all is well. :)

Still, there is this urge now, to see what an analog tastes like after 3 weeks of not having one. (I hope this will pass, and I'm sure it will). It's almost like I want to try one so I can re-enforce and confirm once and for all: Wow! This really tastes like crap, now I REALLY know I'll never go back to them!
Like I said, I absolutely refuse to take the chance, but for those of you who have, what was your first thought after puffing on an analog again?
Like me, I'm sure you'll hate to admit it if you have "relapsed", but I'm very curious to know what your experience was if you have.

Cigarettes don't control you anymore. You simply don't know it yet. You have a nic delivery system that tastes better, is less harmful and socially far more acceptable. I didn't know about ECF. After vaping a week or two with no cigarettes I wondered what one would taste like. I had an unopened pack sitting there. I opened it and stepped out to the patio to my smoking table. I had thrown away my lighters so I rummaged and found a Bic candle lighter, lol. The first draw on the cigarette was so insanely vile that I had to try another. I checked to see if I had lit the wrong end. Surely I hadn't smoked something so disgusting for all those years? Another puff. Almost lost my lunch. I'm persistant. Gave it one more go and couldn't put it out fast enough. Another drag and I would surely have vomited. All that to say, you control the cigarettes. The love affair is over. If you're craving and wondering and have a puff, you'll be right back to vaping after a good toothbrushing, mouth and handwashing.

Unlike some here, I still enjoy walking past a smoker and smelling a waft of smoke. In closed quarters I don't think I'd enjoy it but it does make me long for a cig when I smell others smoking. Sometimes I get a crave, once a week or two weeks. I remember that foul taste and take a vape. I still have that pack of cigarettes with no intention of discarding them. If all my PVs break and I need nicotine I may have to smoke one while I get my gear in order. That won't ruin my quit or make me a 'smoker' again. We didn't quit smoking. We transitioned into vaping and are smoke and tobacco free.

Taking a curiosity puff off a cigarette is like a rite of passage around here. I thought I was unique until I found ECF. We're different but very similar in that aspect. You're in charge and YOU chose to vape. Cigarettes don't rule you anymore. Congrats on your transition.

I have been vaping for about 3 weeks now....loving it! But to answer your question...yes they do. I haven't been able to make it past 5 days without trying to answer this question....why?...I don't know. I can't seem to make it past the 5 day make without bumming a cig from someone, trying it and then immediately giving it back because it is so horrible. Here I am at day 5 AGAIN...I am determined to make it to 6 this time.

Wow! This thread really ended up smokin'! (Um, well, you know what I mean). :D
I really appreciate all of the replies folks. The general consensus seems to be that once you get into vaping for any length of time...(or in some cases even for a short time), analogs taste like crap.

You've all helped me to become even more determined to stay away from them.
I'd give each and every one of you a "Like" for your post, but that could take a while. lol!
So, just consider this post one BIG 'like' to all of you...it's been very informative. ;)

It's actually quite simple really... When you smoke, it changes and in fact deadens your taste buds. People who still smoke some but vape more take longer for the taste buds to come back healthy, while people who stop smoking entirely usually have new taste buds in a matter of a few weeks.

The taste buds are not done at that point though... Many people, after a few months, reach a point that their liquids have no flavor. You just have to drive through it, or find a joose with a more pronounced flavor. Soon enough that phase will pass.

Vaping brings back to life senses that most didn't even realize were crippled when they were smokers.

I've been vaping for a whole 5 days. Four hours after starting I decided to "walk on the edge" and had a cig. Put it out after 2 puffs as it just didn't give me the same hit that I get from vaping. As for taste and smell due to an operation last yr I have none but it's all good. I work at home and I have noticed whenever I walk to my desk the first thing I think about is placement of my analogs and ashtray...old habits die hard. Now my quandary is I have 6 cartons of tobacco sitting in the cupboard. Do I toss them (not right away) or do I give them to the homeless...leaning towards tossing.
Good luck in your journey.
