Do Electronic Cigarettes Really Work?

Making the decision to quit smoking is one of the healthiest decisions of my life, along with one of the most difficult. The cravings can become overwhelming, causing irritability, trouble concentrating, and physical sickness due to withdrawal symptoms. There are hundreds of products on the market ranging from nicotine gum and patches to prescription drugs to reduce the nicotine cravings.
One of the newest stop-smoking trends is the electronic cigarette. You see it on TV commercials, in magazines, and on nearly every curb market counter that you visit. It supposedly mimics the look, feel, and sensation of smoking, without the harmful chemicals found in tobacco.
Sounds like a perfect fix…but does it work as well as advertised?

If you're ready to move away from cigarettes, this is the easiest way by far. If you read posts from former smokers you'll see that many, like myself, exhausted all other forms of nicotine reduction and quit smoking programs. Many make the switch immediately after having no success previously. The answer for most of us here is yes they work!

First off, nothing will work unless you want to quit smoking.

That being said, I wanted to quit smoking, and replacing an analog cig with an ecig worked for me.
1: it fills the physical sensation
2: delivers nicateen
3: costs less than analogs over time (unless you want to spend more on cool devices)

If you want to try quitting using an ecig, I would recomend getting an eGo kit, and 2x 10ml bottles of juice. This should cost you about $50, and give you an oppertunity to try it out. from there, you will want to find a juice you like, if you want to keep vaping (I tried about 20 juices, and settled on 3 i use regurlarly)

Also, You will notice here, alot of people have a signature stating how long they are smoke free, how many analogs they have avoided, and how much they have not spent on tobacco. That should hive you a good idea of how sucessful...

A resounding yes from me! I didn't ever want to stop smoking. I enjoyed it WAY too much. But I forced myself to stop for 6 years, then started again because I liked it so much. Now I've started vaping, and I actually enjoy it even more than smoking. It's the answer to my problems...I get to "smoke" but have none of the harsh odors and health issues associated with smoking analogs.

Best of luck to you...I'm here if you need anything.

Whatever you do DON'T buy anything with a free trial or "subscription" i.e.: automatic monthly shipments.

The eGo has already been recommended and is the best type to start with no matter how much you think you want something that "looks" like a cigarette.

Good luck and welcome to ECF.

Interesting .. so in the UK you actually have ad campaigns running .. ?? I did a search thru YouTube and could not turn anything up .. probably entered the wrong key words .. I'd love a link to any video ad you might know of ..

On the e-cig itself, while I certainly don't have as much quit time as so many on the Forum do, I have been off the analogs now for 120 days after 40 years smoking .. so, it has worked for me .. I found that the info available here on ECF was invaluable in selecting the hardware best for me .. good luck to you ..

Oh, yeah, they work really well, if you have even the faintest real desire to make a go of it. I was an "accidental" quitter, picked up a PV a year ago to try, with just the goal of cutting cig use down; I'd tried stopping several times, without long-term success, didn't really expect/hope to fully stop cigs.

Fortunately my first kit was OK, though not particularly good, I saw the potential. Even more fortunately I found ECF pretty fast, read a few excellent overviews of the current technology by one of the ECF gurus, ordered a better PV. Right kit + acceptable eliquid meant I was able to actually stop.

I found I still had some trigger/craving points (on first waking up, after a meal, drive in to work). I didn't smoke but recognized there was still a pull. I picked up one strength higher eliquid, and quickly got into do-it-yourself to "tune" some of my own mixes, and life's been good since then.

Good luck!

I haven't had a cigarette in 10 months, so I'd have say yes! My e-cig (hereafter called a PV) doesn't look anything like a cigarette, but I'm not smoking so why I would I want it to?

Pretty much covers it. Plus, buy two ego kits.

Yes, they absolutely do work !!

I have been a heavy smoker for nearly 40 years , and I loved it !! Defended it whenever I could , its legal , they are my lungs etc etc .

I have tried all of the " accepted" Quit Smoking remedies , Cold Turkey , Patches , Drugs ( Whoah Nellie , what a trip that was !). But no cigar ... ( forgive the pun !)

I assumed I was tied to the stinkarettes for life.

OK , lets cut to the chase .....

I didnt want to quit , just cut down ( 80 cigs a day is probably just a bit much . No , thats not a typo , EIGHTY. EVERY day.)

Started off on 12 mg juice , and noticed a dramatic reduction . Maybe 20 a day , hey , for me that was astronomical !!!

After a talk with my supplier ( yes I have his cell AND home number ) he suggested 18mg.

BINGO!!

Not 1 stinkarette since I went to the higher nic level.
First time in nearly 40 years without a ciggy.

Remember , I didnt want to quit , it just happened.

Truly.

My story is not unique .Tens of thousands have similar tales.

If you smoke , and want to cut down / quit , there is only one way. E Cigs.

'Nuff said.

Hello bethan and welcome to ECF. I'm in agreement with the majority here. If you are still having cravings (which it appears you are), then taking up vaping can quell those cravings.

I would suggest you go with with an inexpensive starter kit from say E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings You can choose between the standard 510, or an Ego or Riva 510. Or possibly a kr808d-1 if they carry that model. The kits are complete with everything you need except juice, and will cost around $39 to $49 US.

As it seems, the rule of thumb is that there are good hardware vendors and good juice vendors, I recommend getting the juice elsewhere since LF is a good hardware vendor. There doesn't seem to be one vendor that excels at both products.

I just wanted to add another "yes." 35 years of about 1.5 packs/day. I haven't had a single cigarette in almost 6 months since my first e-cig showed up.

Since you found this board, you will probably avoid over-paying for your first kit (like I did). But even after paying too much for my first purchases, I a) have no regrets, b) have already saved considerable money, and c) most importantly have stopped smoking.

If you have any interest in quitting smoking, give it a try. I don't know what you pay for cigarettes. But at approx. $50 USD to start out, e-cigs are almost certainly worth a try.
