I have invested a good bit in some nice devices and DIY juice supplies. I am not a PV hound that has to have every new thing out but if I find one I really like I will buy it. I figured it up a few weeks back and I am about $1000 ahead in the last 2.5 years so yes you can save money. My opinion is no matter if you buy every new thing that comes along, it is still much less than chemotherapy or COPD treatment.

I agree with many others - right now, no, I'm not saving money - I think there is a steep learning curve for many and some experimenting. Now that I'm beginning to figure it out, I know my expenses will go down. I averaged $320 a month smoking - I know at some point, vaping will cost me less than a third of that a month. Of course there will batteries to replace and probably one more upgrade in my future but as someone said, it's more like a hobby at this point - A much healthier hobby than spending money on analogs. The expense now is totally worth it.

I read a post about this costing people too much a few days ago. In the post folks talked about how it could save them money and how some treat it as a hobby, therefore spending too much. Or, in some cases, it's the learning curve that causes them to spend a lot up front but save money later.

I got scared, so I got what I spent so far on paper. Here it is:

$62.93
$28.41
$39.20
$14.46
$145.00 total in nine days

I would have spent about $81.00 in nine days on smoking. So far, I have nearly doubled what I would have spent on smoking.

That said, here is what I have:

- 3 (what I hope are decent) batteries (sorry, I'm still don't have the lingo down, that's the bottom part)
- 8 clearomizers (one diff. brand from the rest already became burnt, the rest are still in good shape)
- 1 car charger
- 2 wall chargers
- 2 15 ml juices
- 12 10 ml juices

I'm thinking I have enough supplies to get me through another nine days, easily. I would have spent $162 on cigarettes in 18 days... and if I can sit on my hands and not buy anymore stuff in that time, I will have saved $17.

To try and predict the future... I don't go through too much liquid, maybe 4 ml a day at most (I think) so that means I have 33 days worth of liquid, if my math is right. If the clearomizers last that long and I don't buy anymore liquid, I will save $152 in one month worth of vaping.

I guess savings depend on how much cigarettes cost where you live and how much you smoked per day.

Honestly, even if this cost me a little more per month, I would stick with it. It tastes better, I smell better and I believe it's better for my health. Even if this costs me a lot more per month, for that matter, why would I go back to smoking considering these things?

That said, I will try to budget carefully for this so that I can save money in the end!

Edit: Just noticed my math was under by a bit on how long the juice will last me. I hate math. I'm not fixing it. You get the idea. :p

Saving money for sure. I always look for cheaper vendors without dissipating the quality of products. Biggest discipline is holding back from spending too much when wanting to try out different mods, eJuices, etc. Don't think about the first few months because you'll always spend a lot when getting into ecigs on the first go, but rather think about the next year or so after stabilizing your ecig products/ejuices. So yes, still saving lots of $$$.

I never knew Mods/APVs ever existed until I came here, at the ECF. So, those don't entice me and thus, might not come my way anytime soon. All I googled for was to know which ones were the 'most popular' eCigarettes and then pick mine. Which I did, and am going to stay/stick with.

Thus, it was only $70 for the starter kit & a $10 bottle of juice. A week later another $5 for a pack spare tanks and a $2 for an extra cone. That was it. A total of $87 spent in the "initial investment".

As I'm going by just a $10 worth of juices (30ml bottle) per week thereafter, I believe I'm indeed "saving" money. But hey, what the heck, I'm saving my life, ain't I? And that's priceless!

A very light user and was a very light tobacco user, but I figure I will save 80% or more. I vape once a day. A battery and cart can last me 10 days or more between refills/charges. I used to smoke a small cigar a day...for the sake of argument, cost about a buck. One could argue it is more a ritual and less a habit...that's ok. But yeah, I figure I'll be saving quite a bit, though health concerns (even though they are mildish at my former use level) and the stench/inconvenience what what drove the switch for me.

Well if worse comes to worse I could give up vaping pretty easily. The cravings for me are almost gone, even at 18 mg nicotine. I can go all day without it if I have to which tells me there was something else in those cigs that are addicting as well as nicotine!

Granted I fell apart that first month but Im over that now. But as long as I can continue to afford to vape I will. I like the act and it relaxes me. And I work hard and deserve it.

Wow. You did a lot better than I did spending-wise from the start!

Probably not at first, but in time a person reaches a point where they don't need anything else. If I put all the juice supplies I have laying around into 30ml bottles I'd have about 13,000 bottles of juice. It would probably take me 50 years to rub the paint off all the PV's I have laying around. Got a Plano box stuffed full of atties & stuff that have never been used, so I could probably go about 50 years without spending a dime on vaping if I wanted to. In the two years that I have been accumulating all that stuff, I have never exceeded what I spent per month on smoking.

It takes time to collect all the stuff you want or need, but it happens. Just remember that if you don't want to have to buy another PV for years and years, you need to buy PV's that will last for years and years.

Do we save money? I just got out of the red, 3 months in. I have enough toys and juice to keep me happy for the next few months. I do like shiny things though, so if I had more money I would probably spend more. Nothing like a budget to force one to save money. It's hard to save money when you have money to blow. I am super broke, so I am forced to make savings.

Because we live in a state with relatively expensive cigarette prices and we were all (3 smoking adults in the house) relatively heavy smokers, we are saving money. We will save more now that we have gotten our toys and enough juice to last quite a while. Our main expense for the forseeable future will be cartos, clearo heads, and juice once we run out of what we have.

I am defiantly saving money. As a newbie I have purchased starter kits, exterminated with tanks etc and bought tons of juice and dabbled in dyi juice making. This month I still saved 100.00. I am sure I will want bigger and better but for now I am pretty satisfied. It does feel like a hobby and a learning experience. I have to admit a little obsession searching these forums and watching youtube videos.

I think it is important to tell new vaper that buying prefilled carts for two bucks a pop is not the way to save money. The reason I think it is safe to claim vaping as cheaper than smoking is because it is possible to vape and be setup well enough to not smoke, for easy less money. We indulge and for many of us vaping is a passion, hobby, etc. You could smoke in a much more expensive way as well. The point is, basic smoking, is still pricey, basic vaping is not. Two ego twists, some evods, and a thirty dollar 256ml bottle of juice from Mtbakervapor.com and you are vaping for a while for easy less than the ten I spent a day on cigarettes. If you Want other stuff then that doesn't factor into not smoking cigarettes, I don't think.

Spreadsheets are your friend if you want to see if you are saving money or even to help you keep spending in check.
My initial start up costs were the biggest expense. Now that the hardware is done (I'm not one to keep trying new things and like sticking to something I have figured out) its just a matter of keeping the juice flowing. I've been in the black for months. Enough so my recent purchase of a Provari has not set my savings back into the red. I'm still over $300 in the black.

My cigs were $56 per week. Every Friday I would buy a carton so it was easy to figure out how much I spent. Now I purchase juice once a month and spend just over $100 but I now have enough stockpiled and it would easily take me through the summer or longer if I didn't buy any more. With the spreadsheet I was able to see that I could buy that second Provari as a backup and not lose my savings. (the first was a gift for Christmas)

I may just not buy juice next month because I do like seeing the savings go up :D. I have set up the spreadsheet to show how much in juice I spend and how much on hardware. If I just compare the liquid to the cigs......holy :censored: !!!! Well over $700 in savings! Just checked: saved $879.30 if you just figure juice vs cigs. Add the hardware in and my savings is at $411.40 now.

I love my spreadsheet :) I was going to do this for one year just to see, but I might just keep it going. :D. I'm at week 30 into vaping.

    Saving money is possible.

I DIY my own juice and use rebuild able atomizers, my daily cost for heavy vaping, not taking into account the initial investment, is around 30 cents per day.

I am definitely not saving money here but I've only been vaping for a little over 2 months. Over that period of time I've been stocking up on supplies and wasting a lot of money experimenting trying to find what works for me. This is for 2 people (me and my wife)

I've finally settled down and found what I like and what I've ended up with are some bottles of throw away juices and some throw away devices that would probably equate to 35-40% of what I've spent. Going forward I do not see spending more than 5% on throw away supplies.

I've started DIYing but there are still a few must have vendor juices for me. I may pick up one or two more mods just to have a backup for the backup's backup but I believe all my major purchases are done. I should finally be saving money every month probably on month 3.

IMHO it's a small price to pay to get off the analogs after 20 years.
