If it wasn't for me wanting to look forward to something in the mail I would probably be breaking even. When I used cartos I would need one every 2 days but now that I use carto tanks cartos last a week. So, I now, just have juice constantly on order to look forward to. Experimenting with cheapo e-liquids IS costing more money than I am saving. I am OK on mods.

Does anyone have a spreadsheet template they would be willing to share? I have been wanting to make one but been busy/lazy.

PM me your email address. I have one on my desktop that I have set up as a template to share with other people.

Two things factor into if you'll save money vaping. First, how much you spent on cigarettes. If you rolled your own or only smoked a few a day you probably won't save money vaping. If your cigarettes cost $10 a pack and you smoked two packs a day you can easily save tons of money. Second factor is all up to the individual as far as how much money one wishes to spend on vaping toys beyond "needs".

As in everything vaping, saving money is subjective to ones own history and choices and preferences :)

While I've spent a little more than I'd initially planned, to find what works for me, it was necessary.
My Provari was the first purchase, a couple ego batts for back-up.
A couple v3 stardusts and spare heads, as well as a couple vivis.
I rewick the heads with cotton and easily get months and months out of one/each head.(2-3 bucks each)
I DIY my ADV which is cheap and means I don't have 10 different devices full of different flavours.
Only 3 on the go at any point in time.(2 stardusts/one vivi)

In Canada 75.00/carton/week x 52 weeks = $3900.00

Saving money? Heck yeah!

Edit. The batts for the provari are over a year old and still going strong, but I may have to grab a couple more 18490's this year. 25 bucks? Okay by me!

Initially, during the first month plus, I have spent twice what I would have spent on cigarettes during that same time period. Buying a provari and the supporting accessories didn't help matters. However, I have enough of everything to last me a couple of months, now. So, unless I purchase some fancy tanks, I should be ahead of the game.

If I were looking at this with the purpose of saving money without sacrificing quality, I would buy 2 Vision 1300 mAh Spinners $22 ea, $44 + 2 slim Artemas tanks $8 ea, $16 + 2 boxes of 5 Boge f16 cartos $6 ea, $12 (might need a small file for the flanges, but worth it), and 1 USB charger cable / wall adapter / car adapter $5 ea, $15 ... Total hardware cost: $87 will easily get you through 6 months if you keep 1 tank as a spare and take care of your cartos, or you could get 2 clearos and at least 12 heads for the same cost as the tank sets. So again, that comes to $87.00 total hardware cost for a 6-month supply.

For juice you can get 500 ml between 0 and 24 mg nic premixed with PG, VG, or both (usually offered in 50/50%) under $30 + Flavors, choose about 6 to 8 in 10 ml $4 ea, $32 + Ethyl Maltol $4 + MTS Wizard $4 that comes to $70 total e-liquid cost for a 6-month supply.

Now add those together and you are looking at 6-Months of vaping for roughly $157, or $26 per month or $6 a week for the first 6 months. Keep in mind that included all of the hardware as well. Subtract the Spinners, tanks, and charger(s) you are now at your next and every thereafter 6-month cost of only $82, or $14 per month, or about $3.25 a week.

Granted this is not including shipping, but it is not including discount codes or sales either (and you pay for gas to drive for cigs). Plus shipping is usually free after a high enough dollar figure. Also, try to get as much as you can from 1 vendor. Just because you can save a buck or two on one or two items from the next vendor down, make sure you are saving more than the double shipping by using two vs one. Also, out of state means NO taxes out of pocket!!

So my answer to the OP is to answer with a question. Do you or whomever spend more than $3.25 a week on smoking including lighters?

EDIT: Because hardware will need replaced after about 1-year let's look at this as a total of $239.00 per year (157+82), $19.90 per month (239/12), or $4.60 per week (239/52). Hope that helps!!

At $8.50 a pack Newports cost me $255 a month.

My initial investment in vaping was ~$200 (This included an eGo C starter kit, a twist, a Vivi Nova tank, a carry case, and about 10 different juices to try - (9) 10ml bottles and (1) 30ml - which cost about $10-$12 each.. and I'll NEVER vape 120ml in a month....)

My only recurring cost NOW will be juice and replacement atomizers for my C and Vivi Nova. Lets look at that:

Juice: I vape ~3ml per day. at $1.20 per ml this will equal $108 per month
Atomizer Replacements: for my eGo-C a 5-atomizer replacement pack is $25 and the atomizers last 3-4 weeks... but I'll calculate it at 2 atomizers per month... that's $10. For the Vivi Nova a replacement head is $3.. So that's $13 a month is atomizers.

$108 for juice + $13 for atomizers = $121/month recurring expense

$255/month for Newports - $121/month Vaping = $134 savings which means my ROI time is six weeks and after that I'll be saving $134 a month or $1608 a year. That's a nice vacation. I'll be vaping on a beach somewhere thanking ECF for opening my eyes.

I was spending almost $500/month on smokes. It's hard for me to spend that much on e-cigs. Once I got past buying the hardware I wanted, and the juices I want to vape, I am now looking at no new purchases for at least 6 to 7 months.

Oh, yeah---I'll take that kind of savings any day.
Man, that is some serious jack, no doubt you are saving money by vaping.

Guess I was just spoiled paying $1.15 a pack by using a machine to roll my own. $500/mo WOW!

Good on ya!

i havent saved much. i used to chew, and that was a 3 cans at 5 bucks a week. im blowing thru roughly 6-8 ml's a day and im struggling with flavors and finding juices i like. my ego kit alone was 43 bucks, and now two 50 dollar juice orders later, here i am 3 weeks into this... i like it, but so far i havent found MY juice and all the fruits just taste like sweetener to me, so part of me wants to say eff this, the other says buy a vamo. i do find it very entertaining though!

Definately not saving money here, but that doesnt mean I don't appreciate the positive aspects of it.

During these first couple months I've enjoyed playing with all the gadgets, tasting some great flavors and enjoying a new hobby. Staying off the smokes has been been great too.

When the newness wears off, Im sure I wont be vaping so much either.

I'm really poor so I'm forced to save. I've been into this about a month and I've spent about $300 total on everything. I spent $250 a month on smoking but that doesn't include the $40 per paycheck that I'm charged for being a smoker which stops next paycheck, or the gas station impulse purchases I made while I was smoking.

This paycheck I'm going to start DIY. I hope that saves even more.

I'm only about a month into this and am still operating with my original starter kit. Since my original purchase, I've bought a couple of 30 ml bottles of juice, a couple of extra clearomizers, and some replacement atomizers. So far I'm still in the hole, but I'll be at break even point in a week or so. I'm getting along just fine on this basic equipment and I figure I'll be saving about $75/month once I break even.

The problem is... I keep reading here and I'm getting the urge to branch out into some of the fancy stuff. I could easily blow a hundred bucks today on stuff I've been reading about. I'm resisting the urge, as I write this, to jump in the car and head down to the vape store to look at gadgets but I keep telling myself I don't really need any of that stuff. Yet.

So I'd say yes you can save money if you can avoid all the mods and resist the urge to buy every cool thing you read about.
