Do you just vape in establishments, or ask first?

I'm with you.

The public right now just isn't educated enough to even make a real decision on whether or not they want vaping in their establishment....or if they want a person near them vaping.

I DO respect those who are actively trying to work towards educating the public, in whatever way fits them.....so long as they do it respectfully.

Personally, I only vape in places where I would have smoked in the past. As the poster above me stated, when I was a smoker, I learned from habit where to smoke and where not to. That habit is still with me, so it isn't even something I think about. I automatically vape in places where smoking is allowed, and DONT vape where smoking isn't. It works just fine for me. :D

I hear you supermarket.

My choice to Not Use an e-Cigarette in Non-Smoking areas is Basically Three Fold.

There is the Respecting Other people thing which has been brought up Many Times in this thread. So not much needs to be said about that.

Then there is the Perception and Ban Concept. I don’t think that Vaping in Non-Smoking areas in Totality helps the e-Cigarette Community. Sure, a Few people are going to be Informed by me Vaping in a Non-Smoking area. But I believe that it is going to Piss Off More people than it Informs. A Lot More People.

I look at what is going on in California with CA SB-648 as an Example. There would be No Emphasis to pass such a Ban, or even Introduce such a Bill, if e-Cigarette user’s weren’t Vaping in Non-Smoking areas. And as Anyone who has read the Bill knows, the Bill imposes Sweeping Restrictions and Restrictions to e-Cigarette use. And will be the Foundation for more Legislation to come.

These Two alone would be Enough for me Not to Use an e-Cigarette in Non-Smoking Areas. But they are not the Main Reason I don’t.

The Main Reason I don’t Vape in Non-Smoking Areas is because I didn’t like that Monkey on my Back Constantly telling me to take a Hit while I walked thru a Grocery Store. Or at the Table of a Restaurant. Or in a Movie Theater. Or Wherever Smoking was Not Allowed.

I work in an environment where there is No e-Cigarette use Allowed on site. Period. After 6 or 7 Months of using an e-Cigarette, I found it Harder and Harder to do my job without Thinking about taking a Hit of my PV. Great. This was why I switch from Analogs to e-Cigarettes. To be Free of that Monkey on my Back. Now he was Back.

Carrying my PV into Stores, Restaurant, movies or work wasn’t helping me. So I started to just Leave it in my Car. After about a Month I found that I didn’t think about Vaping when I didn’t have my PV in my Pocket. And I was able to Work and Do All the Other things in Life just like when I Smoked.

So for me, not Vaping in Non-Smoking Areas sets a very Healthy Boundary. And keeps that Stupid Monkey Off My Back Most of the Time.

Of Course, this is Just Me. And I’m not saying that All People who Vape in Non-Smoking areas Have To. But in my time as a Member here on the ECF, I have meet Many people who have been Very Open about having to.

Haven't read all the responses, but if I'm at a friend's house, I generally go outside unless I know they'll be fine with it and then I ask.

Restaurants - no. I can wait an hour or go to the restroom. Unless it's a vape meet, of course ;)

Honestly, I just try to be respectful. It DOES have a smell and there is vapor floating around when I vape.

I know there are some that are all "it's my right" but I see it as it's my responsibility to be respectful of others. It's not like I HAVE to suck on this thing all the time. I vape at home (I work at home too) and I use it in my car or if I'm outside or somewhere I know it's accepted.

If I'm at a theme park or something, I will vape freely outside or stand off to the side or something. I don't actively seek out smoking areas unless asked to. Most people are nice and I try to be the same.

I've read the bill you referenced and talked to people informed on why the bill was introduced. It has NOTHING to do with someone vaping in some non-smoking areas. The terminology/examples used is nothing more than a very thin smokescreen. There was strong BP and ANTZ's backing and pushing for that bill in the effort to restrict vaping in the largest state as a spring-board for doing the same across the country. Their belief is that vaping looks like smoking and therefore must be demonized and stopped as much as possible. From those I talked to, their intent is to stop vaping completely in piece-meal fashion if necessary, one step at a time due to the dangers vaping represents. You should do more research before stating something is a fact that is really a fiction.

From your many posts on this topic, we know you view vaping and smoking as the same thing and should be treated the same way. Many of us don't and that is why we advocate vaping openly but respectfully. Many of us do not believe as you do that we should encourage the general public to view vaping as being just as dangerous as smoking and must be kept far away from others. That does not mean one should vape with no concern for others comfort level.

There is a balance to be struck on this issue. Some see vaping as the same as smoking and want it to be demonized in the same way as smoking. Many of us want to provide the understanding through our respectful actions that vaping is far different than smoking and is safe to be around.
