Is being a smoker something you eventually get over? Or is is like alcoholics where we'll always be smokers we just found a way to stay away from cigarettes?

After 40 years of analogs, vaping is an enjoyable alternative to smoking, but I know if I quit vaping today I would be back to smoking tomorrow. I am also very early in the process so maybe I will see myself differently in the future.

If you don't still consider yourself a smoker, when did your mind set change?

I am at about 6 months into vaping and could drop it today if I wanted. I smoked just a hair under 20 years and the last 11 was a 2+ PAD habit. At first I needed to vape to stay away from analogs but now I can go all day without vaping which is something I could never do smoking. For me vaping isn't near as addictive as smoking was. I was also addicted to other stuff years ago that was much tougher to kick than smoking. Addiction is tough and it is something you will deal with for the rest of your life but with time it gets so easy it is of no concern. Non addicts can play with addictive substances with no problem while us addicts can't so we must never play otherwise we will fail.

After 45 years of 2 PaD and now a year 'bakky free, I certainly hope so. BUT, TBH, I couldn't swear to it. AND I don't want to ever find out!

I've been told I'm still a smoker, kinda bugs me. I say I'm a vaper, but in my mind I'm a nicotine addict. Just like many are caffeine addicts, alcohol addicts, other kinds of addicts... you get the picture. Most everyone is addicted to something, unfortunately nicotine has a severe social stigma, and we'll likely never rid ourselves of that.

i am a vaper, not a smoker. if all technology would disappear magically tomorrow i'd be just as ...... as if i were still a smoker and all tobacco crops were wiped out, cig manufacturing facilities blown up, etc.
but both of those things likely won't happen. :)it would be a huge problem (for me) if i couldn't vape, but i don't foresee a return to tobacco.

My Dr. says I'm a former smoker. I'm not planning to try it but, I did actually quit smoking for 10 years and just about every day for that 10 years, at some point I wanted a cigarette. It might be an interesting experiment to find out what I'd want for 10 years, if I quit vaping. No plans to try it for the moment. :)

That's a really great question. I don't believe that I could ever be a smoker again. I tried to smoke an analog after 3 weeks and exclusive vaping. I actually had to admit to my mother that when I said, "I like the taste of cigarettes," I had been lying. I just didn't know I was lying until I had time away from them. If vaping went away, I would just miss vaping. I couldn't go back to the cigarettes. I always felt so bad when I smoked them in the first place, but I couldn't stop. To be done with them has really been a self-esteem boost for me personally.

This is still a great question for everyone to ask themselves. Answers will always vary. ;)

I'm definitely not a smoker. I am a former smoker, an ex, a recovered smoker. But I think of myself as a Vaper!

I don't know what I would do if vaping vanished from the face of the earth. I don't worry about that because I don't think it is possible to put the toothpaste back in the tube at this point. The only thing they could do is regulate the sale of nicotine...and if that was passed, I would stock up on a 10 year supply and put it in my freezer :)

I do consider myself a non-smoker. I used to smoke, then I stopped. I am non-smoker in the same sense as anyone who uses snus or ther smokeless tobacco products. I still enjoy the use of nicotine, but I am no longer dependent on it. I can, and have, gone long periods without vaping. I'll admit I wasnt the nicest person when I did go long periods without, but I also didnt go grab a pack of smokes either. Just my story, YMMV.
