Being kind of new to this, I was pretty amazed to find out my $11 carto, that came to me DOA, was not warrantable. Is this normal across all vendors? I understand some last longer than others, and there are lots of variables...but DOA? Really surprised me, especially from being one of the more popular vendors around here.

What type of carto is it? Sometimes the problem is the battery is not making contact with the battery end of the carto. If this is the problem you can try gently pulling the batt end of the carto down so it's more extended and can make contact with the battery.

That's probably it. I've gotten bad boge or kr808 carts but the bigger ones it's probably a connection issue.

One bad carto once-in-awhile happens but a whole box full is really rare. What type did you buy? You might need to adjust the center pin the carto to make contact with your battery. Use a tiny screwdriver or paperclip and insert it just a little into the hole in the threaded end. Lift up on it gently...just a little...don't go crazy or you'll pull the post out and ruin it. Put it back on your battery and try it again.

Was it One Bad carto or was the entire box bad?

Most vendors will replace DOA items but sometimes the cost and hassle of shipping back One carto isn't worth it.

Sounds like you may have burned it. What method did you use to fill the carto?
Here's a thread where they discuss 2 apparently different SmokTech cartos and the problems encountered with 1 type. Note the difference in the packaging, clear vs green.

1.6 ohm pre-punched Smok Tech dual coil 510 cartomizer.

When first installed on my ego-T battery, it tasted REALLY burnt for about 3 vapes, and now it does nothing. This is after filling with fresh Dekang RY4 and letting it sit for about 1/2 hour.

That's $11.00 for the carto and the tank so the bulk of the price was for the tank. I've read a few reports about bad ST cartos from MV. After the carto burns out you can buy the prepunched cartos separately or buy a saddle valve and punch your own cartos. I use SmokTechs and have been very happy but I'll admit there have been some DOA. If they are the mega cartos the first fill is very important and the PG/ VG ratio is also very important. I love tanks but there is definitely a learning curve with them.
Good Luck.

I slid the carto down out of the tank just enough to where I could fill the tank with a syringe, then slid it back up. I don't recall which color packaging mine was in, but it was from madvapes. It was a single bad carto...@ $11 a piece, I didn't want to buy too many at first.

Ahh, that helps immensely actually. Didn't realize you could get the carto separately, and I certainly didn't prefill the carto itself, I thought leaving it sit for 1/2 hour would be ok. Would any carto work to replace the one in this tank? Any better than the others? Thanks! I've read quite a few bad reviews on these now actually, is there a better one to work with that will work with this or some other tank setup?

I'm so glad we're getting somewhere. LOL I was thinking those must be mighty fine cartos at $11 a pop. The tank is fine. Chibi and acorn tanks are good but you have to have the right diameter match up. If they are the Mega or XL cartos I fill them by the condom method. The first fill is so very, very important. Also the PG/ VG ratio is very important- too much PG and the cartos floods; too much VG and the juice does not flow into the carto and results in a burnt carto. PG/ VG ratio should be maximum 30 VG with remainder 70 PG. There is a learning curve but once you get the hang of it you'll really like it.
Second half is how to fill and the first half is the Taryn Method. For the Taryn Method I bought an Oral Med Dispenser from Walmart for $2.00. can also be used for DIY but I suggest you clear coat nail polish the numbers.

Sounds like it wasn't DOA cuz it did work. I have a feeling he only bought the 1 carto not quite understanding the tank system IMO.

It would be good if he could figure out if the carto works or not- is it a carto problem? A tank problem?

Can you cover the holes in the carto and try it on your battery?

I have one of those tank cartos from MV. I followed the instructions on the MV site, and had no problem with it, other than I thought it was weak compared to the EMDCC. I pushed the carto almost all the way out of the tank, filled the tank, pushed the carto back up and dripped some liquid into the carto even though it looked saturated. It works, and would save time because it doesn't have to be filled very often. I think you did burn the carto.

I did use a different drip tip, as the one that came with it was to difficult to remove and put back on.

There are a couple of cartos available for the tank. Look for them on the MV site.
