Does anyone have evidence that e cigs are healthier than cigs based on personal experience or data?

We all know that e cigs are theoretically healthier than real cigs, but not many official data exist to support this. There are some obvious benefits to vaping, such as decreased odor, better taste sensation, and less "second hand smoke". But I want to know if those of you who has been vaping for a long time has seen actual health benefits? Such as increased lung capacity, a more clean lung (a guy showed an X ray on Youtube), lower blood pressure, or other bodily data from health examinations? thanks

No major health issues to report on, nothing you can put numbers behind at any rate, but when I smoked analogs I'd have nights where I'd be looking for my fix pretty bad, and stressed when I realized my lighter was out, my pack was empty, etc. Also found a direct correlation between depression and smoking analogs, since I've quit I've been pretty low-stress all the time, even vaping 0mg liquids, and not touched my anti-depressants in the same period of time..though I question how much the last has to do with cigarettes versus getting a girlfriend! Also I can breathe easier day-to-day, don't get winded jogging up a set of steps anymore..

I short: No. But the medical community seems to agree that at worst, Vaping has a high probability of being valuable as "risk reduction alternative." I'm sure a mod or someone will come through soon with links for you to follow, or you can just do what I did and google it. The most important thing to remember is that there is no long-term data on the effects of using PG/VG as an inhalant. But based on what we know about vaping, and what we know about cigarettes, it's highly unlikely that vaping can be anywhere near as bad as smoking.

I agree with more2 ^^. I have asthma too and I was a pack a day smoker. I used to used my rescue inhaler daily. Now that I've been vaping for about a month I've realized I've only used my inhaler once or twice all month. My breathing is so much better and it's only been a short time. That's enough proof for me.

My fiance has asthma, and is not/never was a smoker. But since I quite smoking, having never smoked in the house or in the car, she needs her inhaler about half as much. And I can vape in the house, in the car, in bed, all the time! Everybody wins!

I have only been vaping since March, but my chronic cough is gone. I don't wake in the mornings congested. My blood pressure has gone down and I no longer need medication for high blood pressure. I didn't expect changes in my blood pressure. I can't imagine why this has improved, but I am glad. I don't think these changes are a coincidence. I have been battling these issues persistenty for years. I really thought they were permanent and something I would have to manage for the rest of my life.

I don't inhale most of the time and when i do it is only deep enough to exhale out of my nose :)

Go to the CASAA web site and you will find links to many of the studies which prove the obvious benefits to vaping. And unless you want your right to vape as you do today taken away, please join and support CASAA.

TL;DR: just skip to the last sentence. here's a rambling novel for the rest of you:

i had chronic ear infections beginning as an infant (we're talking at least six per year, *every year*, until i turned 12. i didn't have another infection until age 16, while away at college...i went on to have infections so bad and often, that i had tubes inserted at age *27*, upon which, the infections stopped. but a few years later, the tube was still in my left ear, having not fallen out on its own, like it was supposed to. when my doctor removed it, the middle of my eardrum (half of the diameter) literally shattered, which left me with a 50% hearing loss in that ear.

i then went to a different ENT specialist (good idea, eh?), who said the damage was permanent without surgery, and that my only options for improvement would either be a skin graft from my *skull* (um, no thanks), or from a *cadaver* (holy crap, no thanks)...

the hearing loss was very irritating, and necessitated the installation of an amplifier for the hearing impaired on my office phone. that is, until one day (about three years later): i picked up my phone and it sounded like the volume was on warp 12. i went back to the ENT, who said that my eardrum had somehow miraculously grown back -- a bit concave, but whole again, and my hearing loss went down to just 10%(!). i was still infection-free from then on...

that is, until age 40: i started getting infections with a vengeance again...i'd taken so many antibiotics over the years, the only one that was effective anymore was Cipro -- a very potent drug, and my doc said if that stopped working, i'd be in deep doo-doo if i ever had a life threatening illness. then, about two and a half years ago, the infections stopped again (oh, why yes, there is a point to all this rambling, and here it is, finally!):

i suddenly realized (better late than never) that every single time i'd gotten an ear infection after age 16, i was *smoking*...and every time i quit, they stopped completely.

when i quit the last time, i switched to vaping, and the infections didn't recur! (and, to further document this phenomenon, when i fell off the wagon last year and smoked for about a month, i got a *raging* infection)

SMOKING CAUSES CHRONIC EAR INFECTIONS IN SUSCEPTIBLE INDIVIDUALS -- VAPING LIKELY WON'T. :) (yrmv)

I don't know how safe vaping is, but noone can tell me its anywhwere near as bad as smoking. The obvious is just the lack of tar. Just blow real smoke through a white tissue and see what happens. Then blow vapor through a white tissue, see the difference. Even the WHO (world health org.) who wants to heavely regulate e-cigs, reluctantly admit vaping is less dangerous.

Considering that- chemical laden tobacco contains 599 chemical additives with more than 100 known carcinogens (CANCER CAUSING), which combust to produce 4,000 hydrocarbon compounds with hundreds of carcinogens, and since none of those substances are in vaping, it doesn't take a rocket scientists to extrapolate the potential health benefits. So far as I know, no one has ever died from vaping. Smoking has a connection with lung cancer (1 in 10 smokers gets lung cancer. 1 in 100 non-smokers gets lung cancer), vaping does not. The primary funding going on is to try to prove that vaping is dangerous. This is a largely PC issue and researchers can cement their careers by finding something. After many, many studies, the PC police cannot find anything wrong, other than some contaminants that occasionally show up from some toppers. There are many studies on the content of vapor/condensate, and easily found on this website. They found PG, VG and nicotine. Obviously a good question, but long term studies are not even possible since vaping is only about ten years old now.

Bottom line is that the chemicals in the analogs is what is dangerous, and even nicotine is moderate amounts is not considered harmful. Nicotine is found in our vegetables and is a natural part of our diet. Nicotine is also used in the treatment of a dozen diseases with amazing results, including Parkinson's, et al. More studies are needed though, and joining CASAA will help get those done. Best to you.

Um. I am breathing better, Have Asthma and was hitting my inhaler one 12 times a day and inhaler 2 twice a day. Now I hit inhaler one once if you're lucky and inhaler 2 is put up in a drawer. I have a 1.5 acre yard that I cut by push mower. Use to take me 5 hrs to do between the huffin, puffin and sputterin. Now it takes me 2.5 hrs because I aint doin all of that. Food taste better. I am sleeping better because I am breathing better. No wheezing to keep me up at night. I smell better. And I definitely have more energy. Some days more than I know what to do with. And I have been doing this for 2 weeks.

Wow. These are great stories. I have been trying to show people that I know who smoke, my ego and everyone I have loves it and is now buying their own. I am seeing more and more people vaping everyday.

And this is why BIG Government wants to try and step in and control it. because we aint buying the packs of Analogs anymore and the Tobacco farmer is .....ing about it. I say to the Tobacco Farmer: Plant a crop of corn and cut a deal with De Monte, Grow a crop of Potatoes and cut a deal with Lays, Grow a crop of Green Beans and deal with Green Giant.

And now BIG Insurance wants to step in on it to because they are getting their pay offs not only from the high price of insurance we carry ourselves but their pay off from the Tobacco Farmers. To You I say: Lower your insurance quotes so we can afford it, lower our out of pocket expenses and maybe you may make alittle money to. When I was hurt on the job my Cobra pay was gonna be 485.00 a week... HELL NO!

And now the White House is gonna start Crying because no one has OBAMAH CARE because once we are done with the vaping we are gonna be healthier for it so there is gonna be no need for the weekly drs visit because of our chronic coughing, Bronchitis, Phnemonia, Ear infections, Throat infections, etc, etc, etc and finally may be put the end to the Lung Cancer that 1 out of 10 of us may contract in the future IF we kept up with the analogs. Who the hell wants it number 1 and who the hell can afford it number 2.

See now I am .......... These people want to make money from an addiction that the government has now told us that we cant do out in public anymore. That they are stressing for us to quit yet insurance companies WILL NOT pay for the secession.. Here in Indy if you are a medical professional and you put on your application that you are a smoker a hospital/nursing facility WILL NOT hire you. I have had friends of mine tell me that the administrators have told them Quit Smoking for 6 months then re-apply. In California it is so bad that you can only smoke in your house. Being a truck driver I have been to Cali many many times. I was in my truck on I-5 in traffic and I was smoking a cigarette. Now I was in a full Condo Cab (Bunk, Fridge, TV, DVD player, Surround Sound, etc, etc, etc). A cop pulled me to the side in a traffic jam to give me a Ticket for smoking in public. That is until I told him that the ticket was bogus and would not hold up in court. He asked what made me think that. I asked him where did he think I slept, watched TV. He said my truck. I said that therefor my truck is my house unti I park it in my terminal... In INDIANA. he tore the ticket up.

OK I will come down from my political horse... Sorry....
