I have always been more of a dog person, especially growing up, but I truly love and feel a bond with all animals...
Our Australian Sheepdog passed away a few years ago, and we are just getting to the point of taking the dog plunge again in the near future. So much more responsibility with a dogs though, than with cats.
Living in the country (like WildSky, it sounds), we have had so many animals that we have adopted or that have adopted us. Lots of cats, and chickens and ducks and birds and the neighbor's goats and koi fish and geckos, geckos, geckos!
Currently have two indoor cats and several outdoor ones, taking care of the mice, and we have chickens, a new family of pheasants, and a cockatiel.
Thought I would post a couple pics of our crazy wonderful rooster named Chico. That bird thought he was a dog, and would sit at our window all the time, running to greet us, jumping into our arms. He was found on the road at about 5 days old, and grew up to look like a fighting ****(meaning rooster!). He was our best buddy, but he would attack red plastic rakes and go after anyone wearing long pants, which started to worry us, especially when the one UPS guy who wore long pants would show up...
He got spooked when we had an earthquake last year, ran into something and broke his leg. Most people would have killed him and had a meal, but we had a local bird expert (doctor) come by and say she could operate and fix his leg. Crazily ignoring the cost of such a procedure for a
chicken, we went ahead and did it.
Unfortunately he went into shock on the operating table and died. She (the doctor) never charged us, and was so shaken giving us the news that we had to calm
her down. What a fantastic vet to have caring for the local creatures...
Anyway, here's to Chico. As a baby, and as "The Man."
