This story continues as I have had a conversation about this issue with my partner.
I gathered more information about the details of vaping - reports from several sources including New Zealand report etc. and shared these.
I also said the following..."This is a big issue for me as I am moving from the icky, tar smoking, chemical sucking, air polluting analogs to vaping and eventually to probably no nicotine at all.
I would like your support in this difficult journey for me.
I do not want to sit in the living room and vape while we are watching movies, I do not want to vape while we are riding together in the car, I do not want to vape in your families homes, I generally do not want to vape while we are at restaurants unless it ends up being hours of conversation.
I do choose to vape in my own room.
I may choose to vape from time to time in the kitchen when you are doing something else and we are having a conversation."
The reply I got was as follows:
"You've told me that you're using electronic cigarettes to help you quit smoking. You're a very intelligent woman and yet you're so attached to this addiction that you're allowing yourself to believe that getting nicotine in more comfortable and convenient environments is somehow going to help you stop smoking. What is that about?

Smoking electronic cigarettes in the house or other environments in which you've normally refrained from smoking makes it a lot easier for you to put nicotine into your body. Even if the amounts are reduced each time you take it in, the ease of access is likely to result in more frequent intake rather than reduced intake. How does that support you in quitting smoking?

I fully support you in quitting smoking. I do not support you in expanding your opportunities to put nicotine into your body.

I fully understand how difficult it is to quit smoking. I smoked for 20 years before I quit and it wasn't easy to stop but it is do-able when you decide to do it." end of quote.

8-oAny suggestions as to where to go from here? I would really appreciate any insights.
I am definately committed within myself to continue this path to no analogs and I feel vaping is definately working for me. I am also not at the point yet where I am completely finished with analogs.

"Im quitting for the cancer-causing ailments, I actually ENJOY the act...and the nicotine. Therefore, I am reducing my nicotine so I do not crave cigarettes. The ACT, however, I plan to continue to enjoy until I do not enjoy it any longer. I hope you continue to support me, as I HAVE quit SMOKING. I now VAPE, therefore saving both of us from the harmful effects of smoking. I get to continue the joys of smoking, without actually smoking. Im reducing the nicotine so if one day I do not continue to enjoy the actions any longer, Ill no longer be an addict to the nicotine. Thanks for supporting me and I hope you continue to understand just how important this is for the bOTH of us."

I think anyone who doesn't want to be around the vapor is usually uninformed and scared about what they are breathing. Might want to educate your partner on exactly what is in the e-cig and the exhaled vapor. Many people only know about the FDA report crapola and it scares them.

It might also help to have a calm discussion about how hard it is to quit and asking them to be more supportive of your choices.

I think the arguement would be easier to uphold if we could explain all the components in eliquid vapor and as well as how it affected our environment - ie. besides nicotine, how many of the other chemicals are exhaled (and what are they), what level of residual nicotine is exhaled into the immediate environment, is it residual? how does the stickyness of VG/PG affect residual effects of vapor, how hard is it to clean the oily film off furniture, etc (check your windshield or computer screen, or end of your nose, to see what I mean about oily film). Dvap has done some studies on how much nicotine survives atomizer combustion, which was expanded on by another chemist; I don't think either has been able yet to determine how much nicotine/residual flavorings, uncombusted PG/VG, whatever, etc. is actually exhaled, tho.

One poster mused the other day, that his coworkers complained that his mint/chocolate irritated their eyes. (appears fruity was ok, tho). I've had some eliquid trigger a pretty nasty asthma attack. (perfumey things are notorious for doing that anyway). People who are allergic to nuts may be bothered by the nutty smell of 555, and, etc etc etc.

Funny you say that bc today, my brother did some fake cough and wave when he walked into my vapor yet couldnt explain his reasonings, lol. His wife, my sis n law, whos nose could put a pack of bloodhounds to shame, also said she can smell my vapor and it burned her eyes a lil when I blow directly in her face (she asked me to, lol I didnt do it to be an ...) Once I toold her it was Menthol, she said, "oh, that makes sense".. Although they are AVID anti smokers, they let me vape in thier house and cars, and when I smoked, they made me go ACROSS THE STREET...no lie! My brother is an over-reacter, and bc he still thinks of it as a Cigarette, he does his little act, yet lets me do it near him wout any complaints....I think he thinks hes funny when he does his act, lol. My sis n law is allergic to just abt everything, even claims to be allergic to my poodle, which is known for thier hypo-allergenic hair (not fur)...SO, coming from an EXTREMELY hypercondri-addict family, LOL...they highly support my decision to vape and even encouraged my mother as well (shes now a vaper too :D)

Its HUGE they let us vape around them, and even HUGER they allow it in thier home, where they have 3 children and have forever been smoke-free :) I only HOPE the OP has better luck w/her partner and I will continue to help her in any way so she, too, can find comfort in her home and relationship once again.

Maybe, just maybe shell come around....:D

sounds like you have a wonderful family - and that's awesome your mom is kicking analogs to the curb or at least giving it a go. it's easy to tell you guys love each other a lot :)

I think I can relate with the hypocondra-addict thing - my daughter still rolls her eyes and gives me that sideways 'motherly' look as she points to the sliding door to the patio...

Suzamme, I would find a e-liquid supplier that actually gives out the ingredient (I believe Johnson Creek does, but I don't know for sure) and research and find each and every one of those definition on what it is/does, and just show it to your sigificant other.

Keep in mind, some people you wont break, they still have the same mindset as if it WAS analogs. I'm sure its even harder when you live with the person.

Do a tissue test too(unless you haven't had any analogs than ignore that one)

You have put into words what is really present for me right now.
In the swirl of surprise with her reaction to my vaping instead of smoking, I was at a loss as to how to get back to center with this and clearly state what was going on for me and how I would appreciate her support.
Thank you for putting is so clearly.

The comments in here are very interesting. Particularly the discriptions of ex-smokers who are saying how difficult it was to stop 'smoking'. They are saying they stopped everything - all of the actions of smoking and anything less than that deminishes their accomplishment. So it sounds like when we vap to obtain all the benefits of not smoking without the need to fight the actions of 'non-smoking' it is cheating somehow to the ex-smokers and probably to the non-smokers as well.

And nobody likes a cheater.

my wife never smoked and hated when I would go outside to smoke. Which even in the rain with no cover over my head I would go outside to smoke out of respect for her. now since I got the e-cig I vape everywhere even when we are laying in bed watching a movie. she has no problem with it. a couple of times she told me she wants me to go make her a cappuccino but nothing negative.

I would be irritated if she said I couldnt vape in the house. with that being said when her family comes to visit I have to stealth vape since only her mother knows I used to smoke.

Well hopefully within time they will be supportive to you.

My only support really is you all in the forum. My family thinks its all a joke that it can't beat analogs. My stepdad who quit cold turkey doesn't see a point in it. I think really my only support is my brother, though he's starting to pick up smoking analogs and I'm pretty peeved about that. A few of my friends here thinks its something weird and unnatural.... so, I don't win either way lol. Wish there was a local group of vapors where I live.

As I said in a very early post in this thread - sounds like a Control Freak

Maybe the OP should pull a dirty little trick and get a bottle of Zero nic juice and continue this debate with her partner. Then pull out the bottle as see what she says.

Keep on vaping OP and stand your ground. You're doing this for you. You don't need anyone else's approval, you're a grown woman!

I borrowed this, as posted by DaMulta in another thread.

RECIPE FOR A CIGARETTE The Big List In the 4000 chemicals in cigarette tobacco, there are 43 known carcinogens. Some will be detailed as to what they are used for in the box below this huge listing of ingredients & additives for cigarettes. The lungs of smokers, puffing a daily ration of 20 to 60 low to high tar cigarettes, collect an annual deposit of one-quarter to one and one-half pounds of the gooey black material, amounting to a total of 15 to 90 million pounds of carcinogen-packed tar for the aggregate of current American smokers. Here are the some of the toxic ingredients in cigarettes. Keep in mind that the product saccharine has been a controversy for years and regulated by the government... Why are cigarettes with these deadly ingredients still not regulated or banned in spite of over 450,000 deaths from smoking per year in this country alone? And how many people has saccharine killed? Ammonia: Household cleaner Angelica root extract: Known to cause cancer in animals Arsenic: Used in rat poisons Benzene: Used in making dyes, synthetic rubber Butane: Gas; used in lighter fluid Carbon monoxide: Poisonous gas Cadmium: Used in batteries Cyanide: Deadly poison DDT: A banned insecticide Ethyl Furoate: Causes liver damage in animals Lead: Poisonous in high doses Formaldehiyde: Used to preserve dead specimens Methoprene: Insecticide Megastigmatrienone: Chemical naturally found in grapefruit juice Maltitol: Sweetener for diabetics Napthalene: Ingredient in mothballs Methyl isocyanate: Its accidental release killed 2000 people in Bhopal, India in 1984 Polonium: Cancer-causing radioactive element So where did you hear that cigarettes are harmless? Think about the above "toxic waste dump" next time you have an urge for a cigarette. Ahhhh! Won't your lungs feel goooood?! Chrisco Internet Marketing, © 1995-2002 All Rights Reserved.
