Drink 30 ml of 24mg/ml e-juice and tell me it's not a poison.

30 ml is not a tremendous amount of e-liquid. 24mg/ml is not a lot of nicotine.

Yes, there are other products out there that are dangerous in that concentration as well, such as bleach, and draino.

But to go up and state that Nicotine is not a poison when .72 grams of it can kill you or make you very sick is pretty dang irresponsible..
Yup, that's me.

Read the rest of the thread and see if you still want to hold these beliefs.
If so, that is your prerogative.

0.72 grams of nicotine can most assuredly kill you or make you very sick.

The literature reports on fatal nicotine intoxications suggest that the lower limit of lethal nicotine blood concentrations is about 2 mg/L, corresponding to 4 mg/L plasma, a concentration that is around 20-fold higher than that caused by intake of 60 mg nicotine. Thus, a careful estimate suggests that the lower limit causing fatal outcomes is 0.5–1 g of ingested nicotine, corresponding to an oral LD50 of 6.5–13 mg/kg. This dose agrees well with nicotine toxicity in dogs, which exhibit responses to nicotine similar to humans (Matsushima et al. 1995).

Nicotine is a toxic compound that should be handled with care, but the frequent warnings of potential fatalities caused by ingestion of small amounts of tobacco products or diluted nicotine-containing solutions are unjustified and need to be revised in light of overwhelming data indicating that more than 0.5 g of oral nicotine is required to kill an adult.

Well if nicotine was a poison, we'd all be dead!

Fact is that the CDC has never tested a person ... NOT ONE ... that tested negative for nicotine in their system (it's called the "background level".

It's also a fact that not just for humans, but for all living animals, cognitive development would not have happened without nicotine. So life would have never developed much beyond that of an amoeba without nicotine in the food chain.

Which brings curious testing for Alzheimer and other illnesses.

Nicotine could play role in Alzheimer's disease therapy, neuroscientists discover

If you don't puke most of it up.

I doubt you could even get down a few milliliters of it.
But certainly there is no way anyone can ingest a 30ml bottle of it.

So you're unequivocally stating that no man, woman or child will be killed by e-liquid poisoning, ever.

It's pretty hard to drink bleach too, apparently. Doesn't make it any less poisonous.

The quote used from Post #1 .. pharmaceutical nicotine exposures .. gives a false sense of security in that pharmaceutical nicotine exposure is most likely in a lab environment by it's very definition ..

I'll continue to wear protective gear when mixing my DIY .. but thanks, DC, for an interesting perspective ..

Cool thread.

Not sure if the article I read was cited, but 2 cases of "nic poisoning" I read about, the subject tried twice to commit suicide by drinking a 30ml, then 60ml of juice (2 separate incidents). ER gave charcoal, neither was near fatal.

It is the dose. Did you know all spiders are poisonous?

And I'll end with, "Those who think they know it all, really tick off those of us who do..."

Again, cool thread, thanks for starting it, DC2

So my father was elderly but in good shape, and he was living alone.
He developed a urinary tract infection which led to a full-blown psychotic episode.

(yes, seriously, Google it)

When he was released from the psychiatric ward at the hospital, we brought him to our house to keep an eye on him.

He was staying in our guest room, and apparently he was not entirely better yet.
It was summer, it was fairly warm that night, and he apparently decided he was too hot and needed to drink water.

He apparently drank many, many glasses full of water as we slept in the other room

He came into our room and woke us up and said he was having a heart attack.
We took him to the emergency room where it was determined that he was suffering from mild water intoxication.

(yes, seriously, Google it)

What's my point? I guess I'm not really sure.
It just seemed like somehow this story would fit well in this thread.

No, but I'm saying more people will probably die from being "poisoned" by many other things that are not equally demonized.

Wait, what? The quote by Vocalek? That isn't about pharmaceutical nicotine exposures.

That would be wise.

If you have ever seen CSI Miami then you know that nicotine can kill you. A woman killed a guy with it by putting liquid nicotine inside his condom.....
There are a lot of blood vessels down there, and I'm sure we can all agree even after reading the updated study that 1ml of pure nicotine will undoubtedly kill you - that's twice what the new study suggests is lethal.

I'd also like to point out that CSI Miami is hardly a reputable source of scientific material.
