Update.

I find I can't buy pure ethanol here. Thinking about that I'm overly surprised after all it is pure alcohol, the same as there is in any form of booze.

It can be bought as methylated spirits, but it has all sorts of other crap mixed in with it, mainly a serious nasty bitter tasting substance, usually either bitrex or pyridine. I don't want that in my atomizer thank you !

The next thought was isopropyl alcohol, again this is ethanol mixed with other crap, the main crap is acetone, you girls out there will know this as nail polish remover.
I don't want that crap in my atomizer either.

Then it struck me, why not use alcohol I can legally buy ... vodka.

I've got a small bottle of it to try and will be over the next few weeks be using it straight and also diluted with pure water (more on that in a minute) some juice and also with just PG.

Pure Water, this I got from the pharmacy in small 10ml vials that are intended for use in injection, so that is hopefully about as pure as I can buy. OK the 10ml vials were $1.50 each, which works out as $150 a litre, expensive water. But given that I'm only using a very small amount each clean, I'm happy about it.

The whole purpose of cleaning as I see it is to remove any build of dried up juice from both the heater coil and the wool surrounding the heating pot and not leaving any residue that will taint the flavour of the juice afterwards.

The alcohol and water combination should dissolve and carry it out of the atomizer, the juice or PG should hopefully remain in the fibre core of the heater coil and prevent that from burning out. It's just going to be getting the mixture correct that's the tricky bit.

read my posts here http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/product-feature-design-requests/1253-darn-burning-taste.html if you want info on how atomizers work and why it's important to regularly clean them out

Hi Nazareth,

Did you just use the regular hydrogen peroxide you get at the drug store? How long did you soak it? And how did you dry it? What brand of e-cig do you have? I have Njoy and an E-Puffer. The Njoy works much better, although I have to change back and forth to keep the cartridges working. Seems like after they "rest" a while they're back in business.

MNZ,

I like your Vodka idea. I doubt if you would even have to rinse it out. Have you tried it yet? I've heard of people using Coke a Cola for a cleaning product, but if we used this, I would think you'd have to make sure to rinse it well. I'd be afraid of sugar residue if you didn't. Do you know if anyone has tried just plain seltzer water? I'm thinking the carbonation might help.

Janet- I would not recommend using hydrogen- I explain elsewhere why- but briefly, it leaves a bad taste that you can't get rid of, and it may very well damage atomizers (although I can't confirm this as the ones I tried iit on were damaged already before hte cleaning- but it's my beleive that the Hydrogen helped the process of killing hte atomizer along after several t4ests
