The hours past and gradually I began to feel nervous, not because I wanted to smoke a cigarette, but because I didn't have any. So, I went out an bought a pack.

That sounds like what many people experience.

One of my older brothers figured out how to prevent having that feeling, when he quit his 46yr. smoking habit (2-2.5 PAD)...going cold turkey about 8 years ago. For it to work for him...he left a pack of smokes in places where he'd always kept ciggies (on his nightstand, on the end table by his recliner, in his car, etc.). He said by doing that, if/when a craving hit for months afterwards, there was no urgent feeling of having to run to the store for a pack. He'd just look at any of those open packs and make the conscious decision to not have one. It worked in his case, and he hasn't had a ciggie since then.

But, everyone is different, and they have to find out what helps them get off the smokes. I knew his method wouldn't work for me at all, so I chose to do it with the help of vaping instead.

That would never work for my wife. Her mindset when she see's a cig is "might as well". She has legit vocalized that excuse to me me numerous times.

So I have been smoking anywhere from 5-8 cigarettes a day and vaping... I only really smoke at work. Do you guys think i’m doing more damage to myself? I’m trying to cut out the cigarettes completely and i’m cutting down every day, and i’m Almost there but I was just wondering if anyone else dual uses. Thanks!

I think your situation is typical. It's similar to mine 3 years ago. The first thing is, don't stop vaping.

I started on a cheapie vape pen. Immediately daily cigs when from 25 to 5 a day with no effort. I was VERY impressed with that and decided to leave those 5 cigs alone, be a dual user, and learn how to vape. At 6 weeks I get a call at work that someone has died. I'm leaving work right then. Conicidentally I was out of cigs. On the way, instead of buying more cigs I stopped at a vape shop and bought some new stuff (toys work). That was it. I started a brother vaping a few months later. He was a dual user for 10 months, until he got a call that someone had died and spent a weekend with family members.

Moments come when there is a extra motivation to stop smoking. If you happen to be vaping the next time you have one of those moments you're a lot more likely to succeed. For me there was less pressure because I knew by then I wouldn't stop vaping so the worst that could happen is relapsing back to 5 cigs, not 25.

Thanks for all the support everyone I really appreciate it! I haven’t had one today and I feel great, just went and bought some new juice so I think i’m good to go. The only thing that’s going to get me is my morning cigarette. But we will see how it goes tomorrow!

maybe MTL isn't the best way. I went to a vape shop planning on being a dual user I didn't want to spend too much so they set me up with a Smok X8 and 30ml 6mg e-juice. What I noticed is I didn't want a cigarette and had 3 packs that were just sitting there that I finally gave away after 3 weeks.

I began to experience that syndrome as soon as I started writing down every cigarette I smoked before lighting up. Now, I am experiencing the 'Why am I buying these cigarettes?' syndrome. I bought a pack of cigs on Christmas day. I smoked the last one at 8am yesterday. The hours past and gradually I began to feel nervous, not because I wanted to smoke a cigarette, but because I didn't have any. So, I went out an bought a pack. Didn't smoke one until this morning. Probably my last for the day.

Cigarette addiction, at least in my case, is weird.
Its not weird at all. The addiction to smoking is much more that the physical craving. The addiction emcompasses all aspects of our lives. Its social, emotional, behavioral. When I switched to vaping, I still wanted to know I had at least a pack of smokes, even if I didn't smoke them. When I smoked and was running low, I could feel a panic attack coming on if I did not go immediately and buy some. So to help with that an unopened pack sat in my kitchen drawer for at least 2 years. I saw it every day when I opened the drawer and kept telling myself, nope don't need it. Finally, one day I wondered why I even kept them at all so threw them out. Never looked back.

I'd already gotten down to 1/2 PAD before starting to vape. Then, when I started dual using, I allowed myself 9/day for the next week, 8/day for the following week, etc., etc.. The last 1 per day during my final week, was always the first morning one I'd have with my coffee. By the time that week was over, I could easily vape my Cinnamon Roll eliquid (instead of having that smoke) with my coffee each morning. Haven't had a smoke since then. It'll be 4 years on the 14th.

That morning one is tough, you literally have to decide every morning not to smoke it for a week or two.

I never really had a "morning" cig. Sometimes I would be an hour+ after waking up before I had the first one. For me it was the after dinner one that was the hardest. When the wife first relapsed into smoking and started keeping them on hand again, there were a few occasions I would relapse into one per day and it was always after dinner.

I would never had given up my feet hit the floor AM cig if I had any in the house. My main problem was I would forget every morning I had quit. Was a struggle to not throw on a robe and race to the gas station.

I was doing really well until my dad gave me carton of cigarettes. He only gave them to me because he didn't want to throw them away and knew that I smoked sometimes. So now I smoke about one cigarette a day when my mom comes over to visit because she smokes and I really only do it because she's smoking. I'm thinking about throwing them out because the only time I do crave a cigarette is when I drink now.

It was because I was afraid of that very thing, that I also gave up drinking for the first 2 years I was vaping. I have since had a few drinks here and there, but nothing like I used to do. TBH I really don't don't miss it.

A lady in a bathrobe at the gas station with what looked like a hoard of kids jumped my car's battery once. She was super sweet, kept hollering at the kids, and told me she was just back from vacation. She didn't have time to get dressed before school drop-off, but she DID have time to jump me. I tend to think folks in bathrobes out and about can be the nicest after that experience. LOL. I was not nice in mine, but I was rather zombiesque at that point.
