I just saw a commercial for Blu ecigs on TV Land. Had Stephen Dorf in it. First time I've ever seen a commercial for ecigs on national TV. Wonder how long that will last before they ban those.

Let me state clearly that I am all for the banning of any Stephen Dorf found on any TV broadcast, be it network or cable.

There's just no reason we should be subjected to this.

The only Dorf allowed on TV should be the Dorf who plays golf-

I've been seeing the Blu commercials on cable for awhile. I just started to hear the Njoy commercials on the radio. Even though I don't use those particular products, I'm glad national exposure is happening for vaping. The more the general public learns, the better.

I kinda agree. I mean I like the mainstream exposure but at the same time once you start invading people's living rooms you're going to start rattling some cages which I don't think is going to be good for us. I think they should keep the advertising via other avenues. Let's face it. Nicotine is a drug. A very addictive drug at that. I don't really want my kids seeing that commercial and thinking its ok to start vaping. My kids know Daddy does it because he stopped cigarettes but it's still not something they should do. But what about all the other kids out there. Probably looks cool to them. Eh. I dunno. I'm torn on the whole thing.

I've been seeing the Blu commercial on tv for a couple months now, I haven't seen the Njoy one.
I wish I had seen one years ago, that much more time I would've been vaping and not smoking. Yes nicotine is a drug, well so is caffeine. I don't see starbucks ads getting banned anywhere.
I have only seen the commercial on cable tv in the evening, so maybe they are only advertised in the evening?

I grew up with both my parents smoking. My dad used a pipe quite a bit, but both mom and dad smoked cigarettes. I remember seeing the cigarette commercials on TV and in print. Those ads weren't what made me start, it was my parents smoking that did. I wanted to emulate them. I remember as a child sitting on my parents laps asking them to blow smoke rings. I don't know if the advertisements that I saw had anything to do with my starting smoking cigarettes, but being around it probably had more impact on my decision.

I'm more for the advertising because it opens some peoples eyes that might give me a dirty look when they see me vaping. They don't understand that foreign object in my hand and seeing me blowing "smoke". This way, via advertisement, they might not give me that dirty look after hearing/seeing the ads because they are more informed.

I understand your point of view and I hope your kids don't start any nicotine habit and have to experience what we are right now.

I think you're correct. It was probably 12am when I saw it.

Not sure I would compare caffeine with nicotine though. I can't debate it, nor do I want to, but I'd say nicotine is much more addictive. IMHO. Although nicotine is probably just as harmless as caffeine when by itself and ya dont have the thousands of other chemicals we were inhaling with analogs stilI so much more addictive. I mean they are both stimulants. However, based on my personal experience it was a hell of a lot easier for me to stop drinking 2 pots of coffee a day than to stop smoking a pack a day. That's for sure. Think about it. If it was that easy why would we be vaping at all. Unless ya use 0mg and just like the flavors of course. Again, just my opinion.

I hear ya. Ads didn't get me started either. Both my folks smoked as well but it wasn't even them. It was my friends. They all smoked and I wanted to also.

The problem I have with the commercial is I don't see it as informative at all. All I see is a paid celebrity selling a product. The only informative thing he says is "it's vapor". Most people dont even know what "vapor" means. Believe me. I'd be all for it if they actually said something informing folks of the risks of analogs compared to ecigs but again, all I saw was a company selling a product while offering minimal information.

Trust me. I'll do anything I can to keep my kids away from any form of nicotine till the day I die. Which I hope is a long way off. ;)

Ok, I see your point about the commercial. You do have a point about lack of info on "vapor" Maybe someone can come up with a 80's kind of commercial, the "This is your brain, and then this is your brain on drugs, with the picture of the egg in the skillet , then the guy/lady says any questions?" That kind of commercial? Maybe have someone blow some smoke through smoke through cheesecloth to show the yellow tar, etc, then have them blow through another piece vaping which would show nothing? Then ask any questions? That would be a pretty simple visual.
Did I do that when I started vaping? You bet I did. Did I show everyone I know ? Oh hell yes. Totally floored my husband, still does.

Life has changed a lot since I was a youngster PepNYC. Hopefully your kids will see your nicotine addiction as a bad thing and won't start up. The US has changed it's outlook on a lot of things, including tobacco use. I'm hoping peer pressure isn't what it was when I was a kid about smoking. Hell, I smoked for a few years until it was pointed out to me that I wasn't inhaling. How I wish I was never involved with that conversation!

Best of luck!

I understand your point.

Vaping is in it's infancy as far as public portrayal goes. I took the commercial geared towards smokers trying to get off of cigarettes and this was a tool to do so. I saw it as the actor portrayed a smoker that wanted something to help him to get away from cigarettes. I hope to see other advertising that explains vaping better and educates the general public as you do. It's a small step, but at least it was taken.

They should of gotten Grieco.. Say it with me guys, Grieco!

He would of probably done it for the same money as that Dorf goofball. At least Grieco makes me smile!

Richard Grieco!
