I thought PG was a good aerosol sanitizer. Don't know why, I always think of "backwash" when the PV gets passed around.

I have never heard of backwash in things being passed around like this. That is more for letting kids drink your soda.

I did plenty of passing around of things when I was younger, even got the flu from a bottle of champagne one NYE, but for some reason passing around ecigs gives me the willies.
I'm also trying to be more of a germophobe which makes it out of the question.

Understood about the backwash thing...was the best analogy I could come up with at the time...lol
When I watch the kids at the local shop pass their PV's around it gives me the willies as well. Not that they are unclean -- it just doesn't sit right with me. Completely personal and no basis whatsoever. Guess it comes down to it's my choice who I share my PV with.

No worries here.

The vapour is safe from bacteria, presumably (I've experienced the pain of touching a glowing coil...)

Am "I" safe though? I have no idea. Coins, wallets, etc probably not ideal....

I have been thinking (and getting bothered) about this lately. Sure, the coil is hot. But that vapor also travels through the tank "channel" and up the driptip. Both were cold and moist previously, so whatever bugs might be swimming in there would get to the vapor.

Suppose that I vape, and leave that tank full of juice (and the moisture from the vapor) sitting there for a few days weeks. Surely some micro organisms can breed in there?

And what about the juice itself? If I leave it for a while in a tank, can it become bacteria food? It mingles with our breath, after all. We might be sucking the vapor in, but some of it goes back down. Not to mention when we blow through the driptip to clear it up from condensation.

In any case, I have the habit of filling out 6-8 tanks at once (as I'm a total flavor ....) and keep swapping. So I end up losing track of how long each was last cleaned. I should probably stop doing that.

I've read somewhere that propylene glycol is antibacterial. No idea if that is true.

What my doctor recommended: Wipe the tip down with an alcohol rub after each use.

What I actually do: Wash the entire tank every time it's empty, including the tip.

So far, the difference between these two actions hasn't led to any infections, diseases, or cooties.

I do that as well but go one step further. I break everything down, rinse in hot water, then put everything in my ultrasonic cleaner (i keep the parts in a clean glass with grain alcohol in it. The main tank is filled with hot water. Run two 480 second cycles, then take the parts and run a single cycle with distilled water instead of the alcohol. The heat from the tank water and ultrasonic action removes all the alcohol from wicks, etc and it rises to the top and evaporates.

I place my ego style mod in my shirt pocket, however the tip is always sticking out, so I don't feel that it's dirty. Plus I carry a paper towel constantly in the same pocket, so that I can wipe it & my hands if e-juice gets on either.

Plus at refills, I always clean the drip tip with alcohol to clean it up good, if not properly cleaned, these will become crusty.

And no, I don't share my mods with anyone, don't want anyone's germs in my mouth or on my tanks. If anyone wants to try my juice, I have two of the iClear top coils, these drip tips are removable & can be washed hot soapy water, which I do after someone uses it. I keep some of the flavors I like the least in those.

I'd never let a stranger touch my PV. Now my besties and hubby - we swap all the time but we drink whiskey out of the same bottle too so I am not worried. I also have a CRAZY lip product obsession. I have no less than 15 tubes/buckets/sticks of lipstick/gloss/bistex etc open at one time. I am always cleaning my tips. I use Chlorhexidine for all. I worry about alcohol and my plastic Gemini's but the Chlorhexidine is fine so far. I clean my tanks and wicks when needed but I am pretty new to this. One of the things I was so happy about is no longer feeding other people's habit so if I do not ever start sharing the mooches will stay away, I hope.
