I was thinking about the hygiene of vaping the other day and wondered if anyone shared my feelings.

I take my e-cig wherever I go. Never know when you fancy a vape :vapor: This mean my ego-c twist is sat in either the pocket of my trousers, or a coat pocket.

My pockets are not that hygienic, not abnormally gross, but full of the usual, keys, phone, money etc. and I realised I wouldn't put any of those things in my mouth, but here I am, puffing away on the mouthpiece of something that has been mingling with it all.

Does this bother you? What are your coping strategies?

I give my drip tips a wipe down every fill as well. Also at each fill I'll wipe everything down with an alcohol swab. With cold and flu season, you never know what you may have touched and it may be just placebo effect but wiping using alcohol gives me peace of mind.
What drives me nuts are peeps asking to try my PV out in public. Maybe I'm just odd, but it gives me the willies....lol. I thought I read about how someone here on ECF dealt with requests to try their PV -- can't remember now, but wish I could....

Just make sure you have an extra drip tip in your pocket, let them vape as much as they like, put it in a sterile bag after they've finished and start a DNA archive.

You sir are a devious person....lol. But, a great idea for letting someone try the PV. Now that I think of it, I saw something in a B&M like cheap tips to put over the drip tip for sampling juices. Wonder where one would get them?

Propylene glycol is an effective germicide. It wipes out just about everything: bacteria, viruses and fungi. Before the invention of micropore filters, hospitals used to inject it into their ventilation systems, and emergency rooms, operating theaters and delivery rooms used to get particularly heavy doses. It's my understanding that hospitals switched to the less effective micropore filter systems only because of maintenance expenses: heavy doses of PG dispersed via forced-air ventilation systems leave a scummy gray coating on everything. Many veterinarians, mostly those in buildings with steam heat systems, use PG foggers in their operating rooms.

Finally, as pointed out above, the coil heats to about 56 degrees Celsius, which is over 120 degrees Farenheit, more than enough to kill just about any microbe.

I started vaping a bit over three years ago. Before then, I used to get four or so colds per year, and about every fifth cold turned into bronchitis. Since I started vaping, I haven't had one single cold. I'm also very ecumenical about vaping: I always carry disposable cig-a-likes and hand them out to interested people (along with a card listing this forum), and I let perfect strangers take tokes from my PV. In the winter, particularly, some of these people do seem to be coming down with or actually have colds.

So, I regard "cleanliness" with regard to vaping hardware as misplaced hysteria.

i have a boatload of them. was ordering from china (o-rings, drip tips etc etc) and saw them. figured i would get 100. you know it really pays to review your orders closely. i now have 1000 of them and the situation has never come up when i needed one. jeez....maybe i should open a store.

i rinse and dry my tips and caps (rda's ) daily and a quick go over with a lysol sanitizing wipe. i keep a tube that are barely damp just for that. stay clean :D

Dang... never even thought about all those carto caps I saved for ????. I already have some in the car so I'm ready for when I go out. Thanks for the great idea!!

That and some of the clearo I bought had covers. My wife has an allergy to metal tips and before we got the pre cut ones we made some out of those and cut the hole with cuticle scissors.

I'm mainly concerned about a complete stranger who I know nothing about hygiene wise. Friends, in-laws and, out-laws I sort of have an idea. Still, it seems like a good idea to use something to keep from spreading anything communicable. So far, most peeps are mainly curious and are not forward enough to ask about tasting.

A vendor at Vapefest 2013 was letting people try flavours. They had special plastic covers for their CE4s.

I tried some, returned the plastic cover and walked off with the battery.

Whoops, wrong way round. :)

Got half way across the marquee and thought "what am I doing with a metallic burgundy coloured eGo in my hand?"
