I've been vaping for 3 years (my anniversary is Friday!), but I have never tried to build a coil or use an RDA of any kind. I vape with old school simple stuff like single coil carto tanks, 510 attys, eRolls, etc. Mouth to lung vaping only. Total tootle puffer.

I have purchased a few RDAs just in case I ever needed them, and because they were very cheap ($1-2 each). I have a Smok UDA, a Quasar, and a Caterpillar. I also have a rebuilding sample pack with several sizes of wire and different wicking materials.

My question is, will a simple vaper like me even like vaping with rebuildables? If so, will any of the ones I already have be a decent choice for single coils at around 2ohm? What size wire is best for that resistance?

Definitely planning to do a lot more reading, but just hoping for a little basic guidance.

Thanks!

Yeah! I think you would enjoy it! If you're going for 2Ω I would go with 28g or 30g. It's at least worth a shot. Give those lonely devices some attention, and if you don't like it, no harm done!

I've heard good things about the Caterpillar so personally I would start with that one. 11 wraps of 28g around a 2.5mm ID would get you there. With 30g, you would only need 7 wraps, but I find 30g an absolute pain to work with.

make sure to drop your nic lvl...dramatically.

Went from 24mg/ml to 2-3 mg/ml with RDAs and those new RTAs (Goblins etc)

Plus, those atties are juice guzzlers...before I could go 2 days with 5ml in my kayfuns...now its more like a couple hrs top in a Goblin,4-5 puffs with RDAs :)

The smok UDA is a pretty noob friendly rda, very similar to the budz worx era that i started with. Also, you tend to get better flavor with the mini rdas as their smaller chambers usually help concentrate the flavor. Give it a try, and if you find you don't like to rebuild you can always buy premade coils off ebay or pick up a kuro coiler to make it a bit easier.

Definitely listen to martininc. Drop your nic level down.
RDA's are designed to give the vaper a purer taste than a tank. It may seem intimidating and your first few tries may be fails but don't give up! If you're like most of us, once you get the hang of it, you'll wonder why you didn't start dripping sooner! Plus, I'm sure you can always get hands-on advice from your local vape shop. No one will laugh at you or make you feel stupid. You're part of a community and we're all in this to help each other.
Of course, start with a single coil at first and work your way up.
Remember the golden rule: More coils, less nic.

Single coils will work just fine - they tend to give a little better flavor than duals IMO. I have a clone of the Quasar, some of the best flavor I've ever had. Quite low in juice capacity, but it's a solid little performer.

As for the original question, you'll love it. Rebuilding is simple. If you're a happy mouth to lung vaper, all you need to focus on is getting a good restricted airflow. Anything like the Quasar with adjustable holes/slots should serve well, just be aware that some RDAs don't have a single coil option or the ability to really restrict airflow.

Vaped for over 2 years before took the Build Plunge myself couple years ago now.. Thought was too tedious and time consuming (and dangerous). After the first couple and making some mistakes on Cheap RDAs with elementary knowledge and no experience, found out I was dead wrong on all accounts. Sure, it absolutely and inarguably takes Research, Education, and lotsa Safety & Double Checks until proven capable and comfortable with the Process but is absolutely worth it and increases the satisfaction and enjoyment 100 fold.
As long as you have the proper Batteries (25A or better to be sure), I'd suggest going for around a 1 ohm target and definitely lower the Nic level to about half of what you are doing now. That will give you more Vapor, better Flavor, and increase the likelihood that you will "like" it. The 2 ohm is a little high for an RDA (IMO) and neuters the Vapor and Flavor thus the overall experience. Plus, it will be easier to wrap and you can use a thicker lower gauge Wire which will last longer and give better performance as well.
Again, check Ohms' Law to be sure you have proper safe matching in your Rig and use an Ohm Meter several times during the Build Process to be sure. Vaper's Toolbox is a good App to have an use on your Smartphone as well. Referred to it many times when first building just to be sure. Still do every now and then when trying new Combos and Builds.
Once you get comfy with it all you will want to go into the sub-ohm range to get all you can from the System and the experience.
You can then go to .3-.5 range with dual Coils and the like which will really open up your Options and Performance with your Equipment.
IMO, I prefer Duals over Singles for Flavor & Performance and Longevity. But, your preferences and tastes may vary now and over time.

Be cautious not scared, research and educate well, take your time, make SURE you have the proper Mod/Power Source, Batteries, RDA, and Build (ohms).
When and If ever in doubt, Ask & Discover First. You're in an awesome Place for that. Sure helped me and am loving it with no melt-downs, explosions or blown-off faces so far.
