Cheers everyone! I'm a newb when it comes to these ecigs...a few of my friends have recommended them and I would like to get my first one. It seems like such a better alternative! I currently smoke Marlboro Menthol Lights (Gold Pack) and am looking for an inexpensive starter kit that would be similar to that. Any suggestions would be awesome! TIA! :)

Are you looking for something that looks like a cigarette? If so, look into the Volt at Smokeless Image Volt Electronic Cigarette | Vaping Guides to the Electronic Cigarette. If your open to something a little bigger that produces a lot more vapor, has a longer battery life between charges, and can be used with almost any juice delivery system, a KGo or E Power kit would be a better choice. I don't have links for those handy at the moment. I'm sure someone will jump in with recommended vendors for these or a quick search here will get a lot of hits. Welcome to ECF!

The Volt kit recommended is a good choice if you want a smallish unit. I have a word of advice though, don't buy a ton of methol juice or cartos as your tastes WILL change once you put down the smokes. I smoked the same cigs as you for near 35 years and now I rarely even use any menthol or mint flavors. Get enough supplies to go a week or so and then get some sample packs of various flavors...

Hi!

This my first week of quitting smoking and using an ecig instead. I have done a TON of research over the last few days, so allow me to "brain-dump" some of it.

Like you, I wanted something that would taste the same as the cigarrettes I was using prior because I thought it would make it easier to transition. So when I bought my Ego, I bought a Marlboro tasting liquid as I was smoking a pack a day of Marlboro Reds. I also picked up a rasberry, lemonade, and menthol flavor, just to try some different flavors.

To be honest, after the first day, I REALLY preferred the raspberry over the Marlboro flavor. The best way I can describe it is it is like smoking a fruit soda or kool aid, rather than that tobacco taste. But you still get your nicotine, so you don't want to smoke regular cigarettes.

I ended up mixing some raspberry with the lemonade, which is AMAZING(raspberry lemonade), but I am starting to run low on both and so I do a couple drops of the Marlboro, sometimes with a drop of the menthol to make the other last(On a different atomizer so I don't mix the fruit and tobacco flavors! Very important!).

That said, everyone is different, but just try to keep an open mind. Ecigs can replace smoking, and you can get the same-ish taste, but you are not limited to those(rather unpleasant) flavors anymore. Really, I think my brain was associating the good feelings from nicoteine with the flavor, and the flavor started to taste good becuase of that. Ever quit/try to quit and then smoke that first "relapse" cigarette? HORRIBLE taste, right?

So try a variety, some people love tastes that others hate, and the power of your ecig can REALLY change the taste of the same liquid. A liquid at high power(hotter) can taste better or worse at a lower power.

So, yeah. Hope that helps, coming from a newbie. :p

thanks for the links PI! also, is the VOLT an automatic one, or do you have do depress a button to puff, I find that that would be annoying?

When ordering from the Smokeless Image site, you're given a choice (by drop-down menus) of either manual or sealed auto batteries.

While I completely understand finding the button on a manual to be awkward, autos have a tendency to fire on their own, triggered by a variety of noises.

In any event, If you progress beyond the cigarette-like types into more powerful devices, you'll find that they're all manual. The strangeness goes away pretty quickly.

Hi and welcome to ECF. You can purchase either the automatic or manual Volt. There's also a 15% off coupon and, after you receive your volt, post a pic of yourself using the volt and your get free:
Battery
30 ml juice
pack of 5 cartos.
If you really want a cigarette sized PV the volt is the best out there BUT realize that batt life is not that great. Battery info: 100 mah is 1 hr normal vaping before recharge.
Good Luck.

I would go with a ego system or kgo .. Theres no way I would spend the money on their carts already filled.
I love my tank system ... I learned to use it and have no problems at all other then cleaning atty every week or two. People who gripe about the tank system never learned how to use them, or just think "Buy what I baught because I think its the best" Fact is ... the tanks last a long time, are cheap, and you can use your own juice. No need for those carts. It will take you awhile to find the juice you like anyways.

30ml juice - 10.00 - 15.00 and it will last around 1-2weeks depending how much you vape.

One thing you will learn quick is, NO juice is going to taste just like a reg. cigarette. With a cig you are really just tasting the burning of the tobacco. That being said you can be surprised how fast your want for a reg cig goes away. It will take time tho. Give it about two weeks and you will see the difference. Everyone is different but in my case the first week were rough and then it was gone. Also someone said try a lot of juices, this is very true. I'm not a big "sweets" person but have found I love the peaches, pina colada, caramel, and so on. Also you have every flavor from Apple to Bacon, yes I said bacon lol. So don't let your first impression count, give it a lil time and you will never want to go back.

Looks awesome. Going to order for my mom when shes ready. Ive almost got her converted. Dad is hard headed and will smoke forever. I really would love to find an atty/tank system I like more then the stock ego t type b system I have .. I have tried clearomizers, Dual coil carts etc .. And just nothing does for me what the stock atty does. Everyone is different so you really can never say "this is better then this" unless your speaking of a battery or so.

wow, you guys have a lot of info thanks! right now, it all sounds like a very foreign language! here are my priorities:

-don't mind if the cig is larger, but would prefer the best battery life because my main thing with smoking is just the action of it, and of course some nicotene
-prefer to find the most economical way to buy juice/cartos? don't know the difference really LOL

from reading it seems that with an atomizer you buy the liquid in bulk and fill up the atomizer yourself? or you can buy "ready made" cartridges that just screw on the end...am I getting this right? I don't mind refilling myself if it is more cost effective!
