I've been reading most of what has been said in here about the ECTA. I see a lot of bickering about the good and the bad. IMO I think it would be a good idea to have an organization to help control and make things safer for the general public....but in saying this I believe things should have been done differently to start all this. First off a committee should not have been picked per say...it should have been elected positions from all Canadian Vendors. Once the committee was established by a vote the remaining vendors should still have voting rights as to what should or should not be done....this way the voting members still have the opportunity to speak for their customers, who this committee "ECTA" is trying to protect. I feel this is a more democratic way of doing things rather than a dictatorship. If the ECTA is going to be run by vendors than all vendors should participate....this would just make things fair and provide equality.

All vendors won't participate, the current members won't let new people in. They want to establish the rules of it themselves, so it will benefit them. Possibly afterwards they will try to get new people to join, and charge them money and control how they do business.

Too many people think ECTA is something that represents the interest of vapers in Canada, it does not. Some of their goals obviously overlap with ours, but that doesn't change that fact that they are ecig vendors. Everything ECTA does is for their current membership, so they can make more money. They don't care about Canadian vapers, or non ecta vendors.

Another problem is the vendors themselves. These are the people that scare us into not ordering from America, but overcharge for everything they sell. Anyone can see how much this stuff wholesales for in china, and see how much it is marked up here. They sell juice for $20 a bottle, both canadian and chinese made. Dekang and hanseng for 20 bucks a bottle, but no mention of its origin, their sites just say it is premium e liquid. One juice maker that is/was a member.. well, it really looks like he pretended that he got shut down twice by HC, tricked a bunch of people into ordering from him, but his company is obviously still wholesaling.

I hope ECTA succeeds with health canada, i hope they open the borders for us, and make getting nicotine much easier. At the same time, i don't trust them having any control over vaping in Canada.

It is nice to see the ECTA website with some real content on it, including the board membership. To be honest, the fact that information presented in this forum was not finding its way onto the official website was an issue with me, credibility wise. ECTA is looking for productive feedback, so here goes ...
Website, while much much better, is still a little light on content. Katherine has published volumes here ... it should be on the website.
The board member page reads a bit too much like an advertising page. Year established, location, link to company website ... all fine but the rest seems a bit self serving ... as licensed businesses the owners names are a matter of public record are they not? They should be posted.

Generally, I view the face of ECTA as their website, not this forum or a facebook group ... thats where all the meat and potatoes should reside. Cheers.

I believe that ECTA is a good thing for our community. All self-regulated industries had to start somewhere and anyone who has ever worked in a self-regulated industry will agree that compliance standards (an extremely important and necessary component) are crucial to its success. You can be sure that the Canadian government will be extremely critical when presented with a proposal (so that ecig sales become LEGAL in Canada), so it is of utmost importance that this process be done properly with any and all concerns already addressed by the industry standard.

As was already mentioned, not all vendors will join ECTA if they don't agree with the strict standard of practice...that is their perogative. Also, keep in mind that starting up this industry does not come cheap...someone has to foot the bill and the founding members have taken on a huge undertaking and committment ~ kudos to them!

Saby is the founding director, of course he is going to try to down anybody who opposes this whole scheme. The same 5 or 6? There are a lot of folks not happy with the complete and total lack of transparency within this so-called organization. You can call us all fools as much as you want, it just goes to show how ECTA handles problems.
