I have 2 20W's and 8 30W's and the 20W's do sometimes decide to change their setting. I think it occasionally happens when removing/filling/replacing the tank. One thing I found was that after setting it, turn it off and back on. That seems to make it stick.

now that i can see happening but i got the impression chanelvaps meant it does that while vaping? :?:

I have an istick (the original) and it takes itself up to 9 watts all the time and has to be adjusted back down. Is this normal
All isticks have their own personality so it's normal for yours when it does that...:)

No, it's not. But the iStick 20 is really a beta version... I run mine in voltage mode only and always add 1 volt to what the screen shows to figure out correct voltage... It doesn't step down, so the lowest voltage it's capable of producing is 4.2v (on a freshly charged battery). Try running it in voltage mode and see what it does.

No George, I am not missing what happens in temp control. I have 3 TC mods.

I also have three TC mods, two of the same that you've mentioned (TC40) and SXminiM)

Temperature Protection is when my SX Mini cuts off completely such as with a dry coil. When vaping, as it reaches the set temperature, it will start pulsing the power to the coil to maintain it there.

As they say "apples and oranges" here. While the SX Mini will go into "dry coil" protection mode it has nothing to do with your temperature setting, rather it has everything to do with how fast the coils temperature is ramping compared to the SXminiM's internal calculation. (and absolutely NOTHING to do with a iStick TC40W, who cares what your SXminiM does?)

While it may have some sort of eLeaf's own "dry coil" detection/protection I can't find any indication (or reference) that the TC40W has this feature.

Every one of these TC mods work different and read different so you can't compare readings between them and it doesn't matter. I set mine according to taste and use the setting as a reference point only.

Exactly. Just because a top-of-the-line (and way much more expensive) mod has a 'dry coil' detection feature we surely can't assume that 'temperature protection' means the same thing on the eleaf TC40W.

One of my TC mods will show a regulated temperature for up to 15sec (limit of pull/hit timer), the SXminiM will show a regulated temperature (and show the variable voltage used to regulate it) as long as you hold the fire button and the coil is wet.

While vaping the same tanks on the cute little (and inexpensive) TC40W (and using a mirror to see what the display is doing) it appears that the TC40W will go into 'temperature protection' (TP) and then re-fire at <40W until TP, re-fire at some different wattage until TP and on and on. It would appear to me that this is how this TC mod operates. It flashes TP a few times a second. Once a 'sweet spot' is found, it vapes just as well as my ~$200 SXminiM.

On the one I have it does not matter which tank, coil or build I use, the TC40W in TC mode constantly flashes the 'TP' while the fire button is activated and I'm drawing vapor or not.

I'm happy with my purchase of the TC40W, Bikenstein what color did you get?

Did I say I had a TC40? I have an SX Mini, Vapor Shark and this

I care what my SX Mini does..:) It certainly does TC better than the Vapor Shark.
If I set the VS at 40w it would hit temp protect every time too. I usually run it at 18 to 24.
I'm not buyin any iSmoka mods for a while.

I'm sorry. My mistake. I wrongly assumed that this being a eleaf istick thread and all that those participating in it might actually own a istick product. (or were considering the purchase)

This might be an interesting data point. I wonder if the VS and TS40 have similar chips?

I suppose it does not matter if they do or not as the eleaf TC40W is what it is: an inexpensive, small and portable device which will regulate the coils temperature. In normal usage I don't even see the 'temperature protect' messages as the screen is covered by my hand. As long as its providing a decent vaping experience I really don't have any reason to be checking the screen, outside of the remaining battery indicator (which I wish was larger or had better resolution).

Hello everyone, I have an eleaf Istick 50w and I am using a magma clone RDA with it. Last night it turned on by itself and started vaping I tapped the ignite button a few times and it stopped, so I took the RDA off and turned of the device.

When I woke up this morning I put the RDA back on and all seemed fine and i went outside this morning and set it down for a minute and when i came back it started up again!!!!

I try to keep the RDA from leaking but as you know leaks happen. Is it possible that the button is sticking from ejuice residue? Is there a way for me to clean it out? I have no other device to use as a back up and no money to buy anything else. I don't want to get hurt or have my house burn down. Please help.

***Update! I know it was probably a no no, but I took it apart! There was a good 3mls of juice sitting at the bottom of the casing! and the batteries, buttons, etc were sticky. Anyone else ever have luck in cleaning the insides?

there have been quite a few that have been taken apart and cleaned, returning them to working order.
the debate has been what's the best way to clean the juice from the interior....

I just used a bowl of water and some q tips I only placed a dampened qtip end around the buttons and the batteries and dried thoroughly and dry wiped the board. I ran the whole casing (all electronical parts removed) under hot water and dried it thoroughly. The buttons seem to function better so fingers crossed! I couldnt believe how much juice managed to work it's way in there. I left all the film and tape intact although I am sure there is some juice in there but I didnt want to mess anything up or have something expode in my face as I am quite fond of it. :)

Has anyone tried electronics cleaner? The stuff is harsh, but will definitely clean everything off, and not damage electrical components. Just remember to remove the batteries. Be careful with painted surfaces, as some products will strip paint, quickly and effectively.

Maybe you could take it to someplace that recycles batteries. Better than ending up in a landfill.

I can't think of anything good for $15 but VapeNW has a 30w iStick for $20 + $5 shipping or free shipping with juice purchase. They only have pink left.

Edit; They have silver also but it's $5 more.
