Just looked in this thread a little, and I've gotten the "device Too Hot" message. But its only happened when the battery is pretty much dead. I don't think it has anything to do with the button top.

Would you repeat exactly which battery(s) you're using (sorry if I missed it)?
And what specs you're vaping at?

The highest amp draw on a regulated mod (VV/VW) occurs when the battery is at its' lowest voltage... the mod needs to draw harder to produce the requested wattage.

That means higher temps at the battery. Not a good thing.
Could be chain vaping... or an under-spec battery.

Honestly... "button-top" is not a good sign, we just don't commonly use them.
They're probably mostly still used in flashlights... not generally the high drain application mods represent.

And if you're not screwing the batt cap down... that's a good indicator that the cell is too long. It's not meant to be "adjustable" like a mech. Might allow juice in too.

These are the batteries I am using. Only the 2000 mAh batteries. The 1600 doesn't last very long. But the other 2 last me almost all day. I don't go over 25W. I tried doing 75w once and it said Week battery. If I use the mod until the battery is completely dead it will give the device too hot the second I hit the button. I don't keep hitting it, I just switch batteries and put a charged one in. But it gives the week battery warning before the device too hot warning when the battery is completely dead, which is around 3.3V if I remember correctly.

PS. I have 2 2000mAh batteries the other one is in the mod. But all of these batteries were purchased on the volcanoecigs site when I bought my first Lavatube mod.

Those 1600s appear to be 24A + CDR cells.
If you get any, and I mean any, indications that it can't perform right up to 65/70 watts... then that cell is old, dying... or damaged. :(

Time for new batteries. :p

I use Samsung 25Rs and LG HE4s almost exclusively and never pay more than $4.50 apiece.
I hear those Sony VTCs are pretty good too. :D

Yea, I don't use the 1600 one. It lasted like 2 hours the last time I tried it. I just rotate between the 2 2000 mAh for now. I plan to buy batteries this month if I have the extra bucks to spare.

The AW 2000mah is a 10a CDR cell, when new.
The AW 1600 mah was a 24a CDR cell. when new.
As batteries are used and age they lose capacity, meaning they lose mah & the ability to supply amps safely.

These are the best independently tested & verified 20a CDR cells

LG HG2 3000mah 20a
LG HG2 20A 3000mAh 18650 Bench Retest Results...a great 20A battery!
Samsung 30Q 3000mah 20a
Samsung 30Q 20A 3000mAh 18650 Bench Retest Results...a great 20A/3000mAh battery!
AW 3000mah 20a
AW 20A 3000mAh Flat-Top 18650 Bench Test Results...a good high-capacity 20A battery, could be an HG2
Sony VTC6 3000mah 20a CDR
Sony VTC6 15A 3000mAh 18650 Bench Test Results...a great battery, equaling HG2/30Q

Only buy batteries from reputable vendors / dealers to avoid receiving lesser quality, rewrap erroneously labeled or counterfeit cells.

Hello friends -- you can enter this contest to win a Pico (or any other in stock mod of your choice) from HeavenGifts here: Heaven Gifts 8th Anniversary Celebration Sales and Win anything Contest
You are allowed two entries per round, they need 11 more people to choose another winner, so a drawing will probably be done today. See directions in the first post of that thread. There are no hoops to jump through to be in the contest, just link the item of your choice in your post and tell why you like it. EASY!

Guys, I just had a HUGE HUGE problem with my Pico. Very dangerous issue. I was in the middle of taking a draw like I normally do, and all of a sudden the timer went to 0.5 seconds and just glitched and stayed there and it kept firing. I think it burnt the wick. I had to quickly unscrew the tank and then the battery to get it to stop. Anyone else have this happen? That could have been a very bad situation if it had been in my pocket or something.

No I haven't. I believe it should shut off after 10 seconds, was it on that long and did it not shut off?
Yes, by the time I realized it was glitching and got the tank unscrewed and the battery cap off, it was over 10s. I would probably say it was closer to 15-20 sec. Not sure what wattage it glitched at either because it didn't sound or feel like it was the 13w I had it set at. If it does that again, I'll probably have to email the vendor I bought it from or the company, because if it does it again, it would lead me to believe that it's a glitched unit.

It should not do that, ever. Setup for trouble. Fastest way to stop that if it occurs again (in addition to returning it to the vendor for a replacement) is to simply unscrew the battery cap. That will cut all current flow, and probably safer for you than loosening the tank first. Sorry to hear it did that, it's a big no no.

I'm curious since I have planned on getting a Pico next month. How many of you users that have had one for awhile find these reliable, and trouble free? I really am leary of the cheaper Chinese mods.
I have had my first couple in daily rotation since the end of april without issue other than the one my roomie dropped from height onto concrete and broke the base plate screws. I epoxied the plate back on and it still works fine for a desk mod with a silicone sleeve. I just need to get some red loctite or more epoxy to fasten in the stripped out screws for a bit of added security before it goes back in the out of the house rotation. I have since bought half a dozen or more pico and plan on buying a few more before the end of the year.

I had mine since July 14th and use it and one other mod everyday. So far so good. As for Chinese mods, I think it's a bit of a crap shoot. If you search any model, you'll read about those that have had no problems and you'll find some posts from those who have had them die an early death. That being said, so far I haven't read many bad reports on the Pico. There have been a few reports about the metal finish on the ends wearing off rather quickly, but so far mine has had no problems.

Yea, that plus I expect a few bad ones to get past quality control. That is with any manufacture overseas or in the states. It just depends on how well their QC methods are.

Going on three months with mine in and out of rotation. Dropped it several times, had it out in 100 plus deg heat, had a couple of atties bleed on it, still works as it did the day I got it.
It's not "Provai tough" meaning I wouldn't throw it at the floor in a vape shop and expect it to still work, but it's proven itself a lot more durable than many other mods I've owned.
I have no fear carrying it in a shirt or shorts pocket.

Do you guys think I should just wait and see if mine messes up like that again, or Just go ahead and send an email to the place I bought it from or the company?

First...I'd try a different topper on it...

If it did it again...then I'd either contact the company that I bought it from...or...if I had gotten more than 2 days use of it...just toss it...

[My Pico cost what 3 packs of analogs cost...which would have been 2 days of smoking for me.]
