istick 30w has gone crazy. It started to just quit firing at .3 seconds. Then it started goin into protection when you tried to fire it. It wasn't even warm. I ramped it up to 16 and it fired once then jumped to 30 and wouldn't fire. It then had only 2 settings 30 or 16, 30w or 16w. 8v or 4.8v. Then 39.4w!! I cut it off stuck it on the charger and tried it again and it would fire up to 10w so I vaped there for about 10 min. Then it stuck in firing mode readin 1.7 seconds and kept firing well over 10 seconds tried to 5 click it off, nope stayed on until I finally unscrewed the atty. The readin stayed on 1.7 the whole time. None of the buttons would change it or cut it off. I screwed the atty back on and it instantly was firing again but this time it 5 clicked off. Then the screen flipped as I was lookin at it. I ramped it up and down a few times and the screen flipped back and it settled down for a while. Then it stuck on again and I had to remove the atty. I'll probly pull it apart tomorrow and check it out to see if something is causin a short or liquid has gotten in it. Just glad I have back ups

sorry to hear that Bike, let us know the prognosis and I will bring the bugle home if we need to blow taps over it :(

The film on my iSticks started to come off on their own within a couple of weeks after I began using them regularly, but thanks for the suggestion.

Those plastic headlight repair kits are an idea, but using them requires a good deal of work - and I'd probably have to take the plastic screen out to avoid getting the compounds, polishes and grit into the device. I actually have a kit here that I've been meaning to use on the headlights of my wife's car.

Guess it may be just another excuse...errr I mean "reason"...to get another i30...:p I mean we're talking SAFETY here!! :?:

I don't know if those are for scratches, or discoloration and oxidation due to sun, I think they are just some type of polymer coating and unsure how durable it would be in this application.

Bikenstein Yours is the second one I have read about here @ ECF in the last few days
Maybe you missed it?

hmm, I wonder if it jumped etc because it was not locked, or it would not have happened if it was locked?
OR this is a problem from the design, or flaw, or bad wiring problem

I sincerely hope its not a design flaw

Sorry to hear this for you

You just got yours I think, its better to RMA it back to the dealer who should replace it

Hi KelogGes. I know right? You'd think someone else would have thought of it.:p
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Hello Evie,

Right!

It's also good we try to help each other in every-way possible because little obvious things can fall between the cracks and get missed or lost

without knowing or forgotten

I am impressed by niceness and the quality of the people I see here including you

Howds
Jumpin' In...

Been there done that, not so good to use, and too expensive

I suggest ya read what I just wrote

a Few pinches of aluminum silica glass compond mixed with water on a cloth works well by hand for plastic lenses scratches or mares
even deep ones sometimes, depending on how much plastic thickness you have

Sorry, must've missed your post while I was slow-typing on my iPad.

I have a friend who installs glass on industrial machinery for a living. I'll ask him about that substance. Won't attempt it until the screen is totally unusable and I've already bought a back-up, though. Can't be without a back-up iStick. Just can't. Only other devices I have are egos. Can't.

I've been extremely happy with all the good people I've met on ECF. I've met some really honorable people here and that is harder to do around home.:( I think all the good honorable people started smoking to deal with all of the other peoples crap. Now we have a support group and realize just how awesome we all are.

They - or at least the kit that I have - are for scratches too. Multi-step, sanding, polishing, with a coating at the end.

Your friend should probably know a sourse for this compond if not I can probably help you find it without too much trouble if you have any trouble let me know

I have been a marine engineer for many years and learned a long time ago how to find almost anything worldwide and get it for low cost usually

The common Mineral "Cerium oxide" in powder form not only is probably the best GLASS polishing compound when mixed in a concentrated mixture with water, it can be used for a quick hand polishing compound on scratched or mared plastic display panels.

Also on glass or plastic eye glasses or sun glasses or other optics

"Cerium oxide powder" is also used to polish rocks and many other things

I have used it to i.e., take off all scratches on my plastic reading glasses in only a few minutes hand polishing and a whole lot of other things

"YOU MAKE A simple CONCENTRATED WATER Liquid Slurry With the Fine Powder" !

Some places try to charge a lot of money per ounce or larger sizes for this "common Mineral" to unknowing people for what is basically a powder form of particular DIRT from the ground

buy it from the cheapest source you can find

i.e. eBay 1 oz. Polishing Cerium Oxide Price:
US $2.50

CRL 1 oz Polishing Cerium Oxide | eBay

This is FAR MORE then you will ever need for your iStick display panel

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&ghostText=&_sacat=0&_nkw=Cerium+oxide&_sop=15

DON'T SAND IT

CALL OR GO TO A PLACE that sells or installs Glass, Automotive might be easiest to find this as example to source and see if they will give you a few pinches of the powder or the liquid premade they use

They use a rubbing compound or a motorized polishing compound I think it is alumina silica or something similar, but the best and fastest is "Cerium oxide"
its a white or grey or red or other color fine mineral powder you add a very small amount of compound and of water too so it becomes a concentrated liquid slurry mixture

But the best is "Cerium oxide"

Ask the guys in the shop to give you are sell you cheaply a very small amount like a few pinches or so; you don’t need very much at all!

you get a clean cloth like a cloth shop towel

take your finger and put it on the cloth and put it momentarily in water getting the cloth were your finger is wet

sprinkle a small pinch of the powder on the cloth where you just got it wet with your finger so now the cloth and water are slightly wet
you are making a concentrated powder and water slurry mixture on a cloth a little bigger than your finger

rub gently the plastic where the scratches are with your finger and slowly increase pressure as a backing to the cloth with the power and water mixture on the outside of the clothe where you touch it to the plastic

you may have to do this several times to get it perfect scratch free

after you rub it with the cloth water and powder slurry mixture

take your plastic part away from the cloth and rinse it with fresh water

with another cloth that is dry gently wipe dry your plastic piece and look at it carefully

you should see some of the scratch or mare removed each time you do this

Think of the Karate Kid Mr. Miyagi WAX ON WAX OFF WAX ON WAX OFF

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fULNUr0rvEc

FLUSH PLASTIC WITH WATER AND LOOK CAREFULLY

WAX ON WAX OFF WAX ON WAX OFF

excetera excetera excetera

each time you do this plastic layers will come off until you get it where you are happy with it

I have used this method to clean scratches and mares on plastic reading classes and sun glasses many times

Note: this goes faster than you think it will so don’t be in a hurry
Note using hard glass polishing compounds polish clear lens plastic very well and fairly fast by hand

sanding with sand paper adds scratches ouch

OH i FORGOT

YOU could use toothpaste but it’s very slow
better is car paint rubbing compound its faster than toothpaste but much slower then "Cerium oxide"

But the stuff they have at glass places is courser then tooth paste or rubbing compound
But still fine enough to not leave noticeable scratches

I've been a hardcore PIF-er too but not my iSticks!! Ahem.....well not MOST of my iSticks.:D

Yes, yes you are.....and super sweet as well!!! So sweet, in fact, I can think of a couple of even your beloved iSticks that you've PIFd! :)

I remove the protective coating on all my iSticks...I like the brighter screen. I simply NEVER put it in my pocket with anything else...EVER!! Dedicated pocket! :)

One "polish" I didn't see mentioned in yet....toothpaste...yep....it's been used in the the automotive detailing industry for years...just a TINY bit of grit and works wonderfully on most plastics....with a lot of elbow grease. ;)
