Frankly, I don't care where it's made. I personally think the FDA has a point (ducking for cover). I don't think we can expect anyone to take e-cigs seriously until the manufactures get serious about this. I know that they started as a novelty item, but that has changed. It's time that they step up to the plate. This isn't a little toy. This is something that we are all taking into our bodies. Yes, I truly believe they are better than analogs and that's why I vape, but I'd feel a whole lot better if I knew for sure there was quality control and PUBLISHED testing going on by ALL the manufactures that suppliers could point to...I'll bet the suppliers would like that too.

We're big on this Board on slamming the government. But don't you think it's time we put pressure on the manufactures of these devices too? It's really up to them to prove that pv's are safe or at least safer, not ours and certainly not the governments.

YES! While the vapers may not have the means to prove safety, it is our responsibility to hold the manufacturers accountable.

You're not wrong on this assertion. I agree with you that it would be nice to have an independent body guaranteeing the purity and safety of our liquids. And yes, the manufacturers should be paying for this on their own stuff.

Although, I won't say the FDA's seal of approval is a sign of safety. After all, there have been many FDA "approved" drugs on the market that had terrible (read: death) side-effects or were pulled for other reasons. So, their seal of approval doesn't seem to stand for much these days.

I'd rather there were a private company that would test and "approve" e-liquids so that the industry could self-regulate. Having once been a government employee I can say they aren't always exceptionally thorough in their jobs...

Testing liquids would be great. I'd like to know exactly what's in them too (more to the point, what's in the VAPOR), even though I find the recent FDA "results" encouraging despite the whole thing being a shoddy, underhanded stunt.

But testing won't be a one-time deal for anyone who wants to continue producing and selling liquid, if the FDA allows this. The FDA requires frequent batch tests on the products it regulates. This gets to be expensive for small companies. The labeling requirements will also carry a cost. If smaller liquid manufacturers stay in business selling FDA-regulated liquid, prices will go up, probably by quite a bit.

Don't we take a hit either way? If they decide it is a new drug, we wait for the proper FDA approval. If tobacco product, it gets taxed all to hell. Of course the later is better in my opinion (The approval could take years IF anyone steps up to do it), we may be back to spending what we did on analogs but at least they would be healthier.

Johnson Creek just posted on their site the results of a preliminary lab analysis. They are apparently working on getting more detailed studies done:

"We’re currently working with multiple laboratories to commission a more in depth study based on both the published FDA research and expert guidance in chemical and nitrosamine analysis. We had hoped to finish this testing quickly, but reliable validation and testing can easily take weeks."

Good for Johnson Creek! We need to see more of this. Personally, I'll be happy to pay a higher price if necessary.
