I hate to see it die too Classy, but in another way I'm relieved. It's been a long year for all of us. I just don't have the time or energy for the level of organization that is required to have it in it's current form. I'm barely participating in the thread as it is, and haven't changed my avatar for a couple of months. I would participate- though at lesser level- if there was a way to keep the idea going.
People do find their way to the PIF contests, but at this point even the PVT contest, with the incredible list of prizes, isn't enough to pull people into it. Most of that is probably due to the complexity. We've tried problem solving to simplify it a few times this year.....so maybe there are some ideas in those discussions.
I don't think we have much to worry about someone new taking it over. We can barely get people to participate regularly as it is, and have had no one that i know of respond to the request for volunteers.
Pulling back to just welcome threads is an option. Unless it's only self-started welcome threads as a contest entry, someone has to track all of the same things that we're tracking now. And while posting in the welcome threads is important, because the milestone is important, it loses the heart of getting to know, anticipating and celebrating with people. Though i guess the time for that is maybe already gone, and that's the part i mourn- but don't have the energy to do much about.
so, having a beautiful thread closing, and pointing people to at least some vague idea of something new and different for 2013 vets is my vote (assuming j0ker is planning a 2013 contest). One other option is to invite people who really want to celebrate to come hang out in snails. No contest, no avi's, no pictures, but hanging out, getting to know people and celebrating the milestone.
