it would be nice to still be able to play in here.

I'd support (almost) anyone who wanted to pick up PVT and continue it. But considering the rousing response we've had for our requests for volunteers, i don't see anyone making it happen. Even those who've said they support it haven't had the time. I would like to hear Classy's thoughts , but she's stuck back in the RW now too.

Closing it on 1-1-13 works for me. I'd also be fine with it if j0ker has a 2013 contest and would like to link it from the tail end of 2012 PVT .

I've offered to provide j0ker with the monthly lists going forward if he wants to continue a contest; but I doubt that's going to have anything to do with a PVT.

that, so far, has just been an idea of mine. publish tom's spreadsheet each month and let each new vet post in the contest thread with the number assigned to him/her on the spreadsheet as verification of an eligible entry [instead of the welcome thread]. that's easily checked and catt was willing to do that for j0ker.
j0ker seemed to like the idea but it's far from a done deal.
he does like the idea of keeping the contest going. so, if any of you have ideas how to pull it off list them here. but i'm wondering if the vendors kept up with developments on pvt and if that might influence continued support for the contest.

I really hate to see everyone give up.
It has been a struggle the past 6 - 9 months even.
Hunting people down for the parties, and sadly, most just seem to want it for the contest entry.

Maybe a creative re-vamping of what is done would make it fun again.
(I don't want to hear that the lounge is the problem - we are there - find a way to make it work there !)
There sure doesn't seem to be a problem for people finding their way to the contest forum or to PIF for the Treasure Chest Thread - If they want it, they'll go !
Maybe knock it back to a Welcome Thread and not the picture posting frenzy theme parties...have the Welcome Thread have all that like it did in the early days.

Or, yea...can close it out at the year end...what I can do is close out the thread with a group written post...and then anyone that wants a final post - I can do the transfer from the sandbox thing...

(Of course the year end will be a closure anyway to (hopefully) start the 2013 Thread.

    I don't know.

Just really hate to see it die off.

I agree classy. That's why I left it open for others to take over. We're only asking in here 1st. I intend to post in the PVT asking about a "new crew" to take it over Jan 1. If that doesn't work, maybe in "General" for an announcement if allowed. We haven't composted those messages yet.

If nobody volunteers, it will just close by default.

I'm not getting into any "politics" about it. I'm just worn out. Like I said...step back and let the new kids deal with it. :) They may completely reinvent it. I'm not even going near a contest discussion. That's up to j0ker.

So far, only posturing. No one here has volunteered to carry forward. But we're not done asking yet. So I'm optimistic yet.

I hate to see it die too Classy, but in another way I'm relieved. It's been a long year for all of us. I just don't have the time or energy for the level of organization that is required to have it in it's current form. I'm barely participating in the thread as it is, and haven't changed my avatar for a couple of months. I would participate- though at lesser level- if there was a way to keep the idea going.

People do find their way to the PIF contests, but at this point even the PVT contest, with the incredible list of prizes, isn't enough to pull people into it. Most of that is probably due to the complexity. We've tried problem solving to simplify it a few times this year.....so maybe there are some ideas in those discussions.

I don't think we have much to worry about someone new taking it over. We can barely get people to participate regularly as it is, and have had no one that i know of respond to the request for volunteers.

Pulling back to just welcome threads is an option. Unless it's only self-started welcome threads as a contest entry, someone has to track all of the same things that we're tracking now. And while posting in the welcome threads is important, because the milestone is important, it loses the heart of getting to know, anticipating and celebrating with people. Though i guess the time for that is maybe already gone, and that's the part i mourn- but don't have the energy to do much about.

so, having a beautiful thread closing, and pointing people to at least some vague idea of something new and different for 2013 vets is my vote (assuming j0ker is planning a 2013 contest). One other option is to invite people who really want to celebrate to come hang out in snails. No contest, no avi's, no pictures, but hanging out, getting to know people and celebrating the milestone.

pvt in its heyday provided the visibility needed for the contest in the general forum, and i'm sure the participating vendors realized that.
furthermore, the thread needs as its backbone a member so committed he/she will keep the thread moving most of the day. without judging any of the past developments, whiskey was ideal for that. yes, without us as a supporting cast it wouldn't have happened but our ranks are mighty thin now. you can count on one hand those who stuck to the commitment ..............

i was thinking that it would give us a possible answer/transition for those few who stop by PVT and want to schedule for 2013.

we could tell them that there will be a 2013 contest (if there will be) and to watch the contest subforum for it, but they can come play in snails around the time of their ECF-iversary. No advertising, no lists, no requirements. just friends, and no big deal if they choose not to come.

In my head it's turned into bringing the celebrations back home and in the original form- celebrating with people who want to mark the day, with no real idea of exactly when the title will show up. i doubt it would be ongoing- but could work as a transition.
