I've tried one 300, and two 400s. The first 400 had a center draw hole, and the last was as tight as I could roll it.
I ordered the Pyrex tubes so I could try the scubabatdan wick, so I wouldn't have to oxidize the mesh.

Hey shoog, don't feel bad, or incompetent... I own several different SS wick genies and I can't get any of them to work without tasting like brake burn on a tractor trailer running on a 6% downhill grade. I am going to take the genie rba class during VApeFest NY. If I can't get it right after that I am giving up... And I've already given up on them about 6 times already!

For me there is still nothing that can beat a silica dripper.

Romaniac is awesome. Just message him that you want the hole for the churchwarden drilled on the small side. He knows the deal and will make sure to take care of it for you. Just make sure to tell him you just need a basic starter hole drilled because you can finish the bore yourself. The initial hole is the hard part getting it to go in nice and straight. After you have that done you can bore it out to spec. yourself.

Romaniac is one of the few vendors in the industry that cares deeply about quality and customer service. I think that is why we are such good friends :). He will treat you right for sure.

So at least its not just me. But everything I read about the Pyrex tube, unoxodized ss wick, with no metal on metal contact insures no hot spots. Hence no burnt taste. The tubes themselves really don't cost that much, but I'm glad I've held off drilling out a wick hole to 3mm. If you learn some nifty trick at the class, please pass them on.

Cool, cause I just pulled the trigger on it.

I use 400 mesh rolled around a paperclip for mine..... It wicks really good and I can chain vape with no burn taste. One thing I would suggest is dont go crazy oxidizing the wick. I run a torch past it real quick till it has a small amount of oxidation and burns off the machining oils.

At that point build your coil.... might take a little longer to work out hotspots but I just pulse fire and fiddle until eventually its glowing even and the wire has oxidized the wick on its own! You also want to make sure your poitive post nut is tightened down really good!

Which rba are you using?

I didn't know you could over oxidize the wick, many threads mentioned the problems of not enough oxidation. I didn't wanna waste money having to buy a crappy one just to have to shell out more to keep upgrading like I did with PVs. So I got a brand shiny new 3ml Cobra.

Most gennie users I've read about on ecf, are trying to figure out how to make the best wicking coil so they don't have to tilt their PV up to make it wick. I just wanna take atleast one pull that doesn't put "brake burn" in my mouth. Just one hit of that super clean flavor everyone's jabberin on about. LOL.

Im not sure if you can "over oxidize" this is just the method I have been using that i read somewhere. But I think because I dont oxidize that may be the reason its wicking good. This is the only way Ive ever done it so I wouldnt be able to compare it to anything else.

That could be, but I tilted it while vaping it, not to mention having the fill hole screw removed for the last attempt cause that was a trick a few people said could help. The logic was sound. I think the burnt flavor was coming from my lack of oxidation skills, that's why I've been angling for a way to use straight mesh. Dirq recommended using a silica wick, but I couldn't figure out a way to put a silica wick wrapped in a coil in the Cobra.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Matt.

Did I say that lol. Ya, that might work still. Problem is Im not at all familiar with the cobra. Here is a vid on how to use silica in a genesis but not telling if this will work in the Cobra. There might be a vid somewhere of a single wick design.

Holy crap, that should work quite well on the Cobra, only real difference is the Cobra doesn't have that extra post that isn't used in the video (and more holes for setup possibilities). It probably goes without saying, but the air hole on the top cap needs to be right on the coil. I'll be setting this up as soon as my son goes down for his nap. Thanks again Dirq, looks promising.
