Different note: The pipe-that-will-not-be-named (since I said I wouldn't talk about my CIY for now, but I lied) got rough filing last night. OMG. I thought Briar was going to be hard to deal with but this is one of the easiest-to-carve woods I've ever played with. I was all ready for bed at 10pm (yeah, I was tired early) and at 1am I finally dragged myself into bed after falling in love with that briar block all over again.
That probably saved me a few hundred today in pipes, as I woke up late because of it
Tip if the other CIYers haven't started yet or for future ... plug the battery chamber with a paper towel and use an Ego "shorty" cone on the
threads. I was able to hack away with my files, destroying the finish on the shorty but getting no damage on the threads. Very useful and worth wasting the couple of bucks. The 510 threads are easy to clean with a ear swab and alcohol, though if you have a sealed 510-510 extender it would be recommended for extra protection against slipping with the file and hitting the top of the threads that pop out of the shorty.
The paper towel in the battery chamber is mostly to keep the dust and bits out of the stem hole down deep in the battery chamber, as it is a pain to clean out.
PS. Block still fires great
