Yes but 500 wicks best. Very pricey stuff though.

I don't know that you would need 500 mesh for an ERA. I understand it is better for a Genesis/tank atty. But since we are wetting these by squonking/dripping would the 500 mesh really have that much of a difference?

so to jump on the 1/16th train again. . . I too thought I screwed up when I drilled my first ERA to 1/16, but now it's definitely my fave. However, I am curious to hear the longer term results from some of you other 1/16ers concerning your coil/wick setup life. Seems I was getting much more life from the stock hole, but sadly less awesomeness. See, my problem seems to be a buildup of dried crud on the coil in a matter of 2ish days. I was getting closer to a week or so out of a stock airhole with same setup coil/wick. But now, my coil/wick gets all gunked up after just 2, maybe 3 days. I can only attribute it to the increased airflow across the coil and I assume it is somehow drying out the caramelized/cooking juice on the wick due to the amount and cooler temp of the air over the coil. Don't get me wrong, I love its performance all around except for coil setup life. Is anybody else experiencing shorter lifespan from their wick/coil after drilling to 1/16? Thanks for any input.

My air hole is rather large ;) ,I can't say accurately what size cause I used a file to open it up. I too have been getting maybe two days at best with a given wick/coil setup before things start to taste nasty.

I asked about this a little while back and didn't get many responses, but perhaps your theory is correct. I have to think it has a lot to do with the type of juice your using as well. Mine are all pretty sweet. My peppermint ice cream is a dark amber, and also the worst offender when it comes to longevity. I've gone to changing that wick every day. My best performer is a simple mixture of VG, EM and peppermint oil. It is sweet, but completely clear and at times has yielded up to fours days out of a given wick.

I have been getting better performance over all with a larger coil and loose cotton for wicking. I now make my coils by wrapping the wire around two q-tip stems and I end up with an oval shaped coil. I orient it so that the long side of the coil is sitting vertical. It looks like an old radiator sitting on the ERA. This allows me to get more coil area in the atty without touching the top cap. I then loosely stuff this with pure cotton. Its not densely packed, but fluffy enough to just touch most of the coil. When wet this material swells up filling up the coil area.

That's my set-up du-jour, who knows what will happen next week...

Question.. is it wrong to leave a bit of excess wire through the posts to help pin down the wick as long as its not touching the base or shorting? I've found this incredibly useful and it seems to be working fine.

It should not matter as long as it doesn´t touch anything else...

I find that my setups change wildly in the next 3 days or so, the coil gets all gunked up as you say, but I have just been using the BAHERA (Big Air Hole ERA ) for 2 days, so I really don´t know if it will get gunked up faster... I´ll let you know in a few days!

something along the lines of pot calling the kettle black comes to mind:glare::laugh:

Wait till you walk around in public vapin on that badboy, everyone will be looking at you and think what the heck is that cat smoking!!!
 no kidding
~P~....would i be capable of opening up the airhole? If so, what tool would i need? I heard about some kind of file...
Its not too difficult just be careful put the drill bit (3/64 to start with and see how you like that) in you drill as far as it will go so theres only a little bit sticking out and then drill it slowly and let the bit do the work don't force it or you'll break the bit and get a good cobalt bit and call me if you have any ?'s

Just in case someone is trying to sell you a 4/64 drill bit that is 1/16 inch drill :)

lol, that's why I said "or 1/16th"...just making a little joke and pointing out that 3/64ths is only 1/64th away from 1/16th...trying to "help" the arithmatically challenged:unsure:

If your ERA is big enough to need those hex wrenches it must take three men and a small boy just to lift it. (Of course if it wasn't for the small boy part you might look at it as the perfect RBA.) :p

Jack

Small boys eventually grow into " big boys":D...till then i suppose I could keep the three men around to help me with my perfect Reo:D
