I actually ran into the same thing, both with the EVOD and the Protank. The quick fix that works best for me, with the minimal amount of lost fluid, is to just to turn the tank around and blow it out through the bottom, then take a strip of tissue, roll it up and, while still upside down, stick the tissue into the mouthpiece and soak up the extra fluid. I switched from 100% VG to 50/50 PG/VG and the problem pretty much went away, except for when it gets close to empty...
Phil Busardo pointed this problem out when he reviewed the Protank as he apparently likes VG, he fixed it by removing one of the extra wicks in the head. He showed how to do that as part of the review and it's pretty easy to do. The EVOD head is built exactly like the Protank head, it's just a bit smaller (matter of fact, I use EVOD heads in my Protank for a tighter draw).

I guess a few people chimed in with the similar info while I typed my response, and the link doesn't work, probably because I don't have enough posts yet... Look for his Protank review on tasteyourjuice.

Here it is. Start watching at about 8:30. A PBusardo Review - The Kanger ProTank - YouTube

As to the original topic, I'm using EVODs with 70/30 and 80/20 PG/VG juice (with a wick removed) and have never had any flooding. When refilling I do get a drip or two of condensation and eliquid from the mouthpiece as it is upside down, but after putting it back together I have no problems.

Standing up or laying down doesn't seem to matter maybe I got a faulty batch of replacement coils .

Question. so if you clean one out (center tube and coil) fill it up and just leave it standing up for say 15 mins. Then turn it upside down do you get fluid?

Do you get fluid on the top of your battery?

As others have said, id really recommend opening up your heads and looking at/messing with your flavor wicks. It sounds like you either have too few in there (usually there is 2) or they are not arranged properly. Try pulling them off the top of the coil/main wick and fluff/stack them back up, so when you put the stem/silicone cup back on you can see it compress the wick tips.

Also may try upping your voltage a bit, whenever i get a bit of gurgle outta my protanks/puritanks, upping the voltage seems to clean it up pretty quick.

Good advice, although all of the EVOD replacement heads I own have three wicks installed from the factory (including the wick surrounded by the coil).

Yes I constantly have to remove the evod and blow it out and clean the contacts

Are you sure you aren't blocking the air intake holes in the base of the EVOD? It sounds like you are creating a vacuum.

Also, do you only have one EVOD? Can you test those heads that are giving you problems in another unit?

Interestingly enough, i just opened up 4 fresh evod heads and 4 fresh protank heads, all of them had 2 1mm flavor wicks except 1 of the EVOD heads which only had 1 in it. Ahhh inconsistency!

I have more coils and spare wick ordered I'm going to check all of them to make sure they have wicks in them .

You're familiar with how to open up the heads and access the coils/flavor wicks correct? If so, open up a head that you know has issues, see how many flavor wicks are in there, then open up a different head and take 1 of the flavor wicks out of it and put it in the head that you know has problems. If the extra flavor wick solves the problem/gurgle, there's your answer.

I will have to remember that have a bunch in stock for future replacement
