So how hard would it be for hana to patent their design? After making all of this money on their mods, obviously they have several options.. get a patent, or increase production, or stay small and let the chinese take over their mod completely... I see them doing the latter..
I am kindof on the fence about this issue.. on one hand I applaud the chinese for giving us consumers more options and not making 200% profit margin off every single product they sell.. they seem to understand business much better (high quantity, decent quality, small profit margin = big $)
On the other hand, well... .... where did that other hand go?![]()
do you realize there's only two guys actually making the real hanamodz? kind of blows your theories out of the water. and who in their right mind is going to invest big into a factory environment to pump them out when 'any day' someone in China is going to eventually clone. the original makers can put their price at $250 because it takes them time and they need to make profit before said items are cloned and they lose everything and have enough profit to invent a more enhanced model.
Just hopped in the "No Logo Presale" at 101vape, figured for (as mentioned) $72 shipped if it even comes close to the performance of the real deal, its well worth it imo.
Doesn't really bother me to have to wait a month, been chasing a real DNA30 chip for nearly that long anyway...lol.
The clones are far enough from the originals that even if Hana were to patent the design, I don't think they'd have a great case as there are, from what I can see in pictures, enough differences between them, however small. A colorful box with a similar layout isn't enough to bring and win a suit. These clones don't have any Hana logos, and it appears there are other cosmetic differences between the two. It also doesn't help that both are using Evolv DNA30 chips (I'm pretty sure these MODs have an authentic Evolv chip though I could be wrong - the layout of the screen isn't the same as the SXxxx chips have, and exactly the same as the Evolv chips).
Also hopped on that pre order for a black one.. they have absolutely no information about the battery.. it just says N/A .. ive heard of some of the upcoming hana clones having LiPo batteries installed even on the full size... if I find out thats the case with this one I will be dropping out.. just not a LiPo Lover.. i have batteries to put in so why would I want a LiPo.. besides that , if it does come 18650 ready I hope it comes with a spacer or I STILL wont be able to throw in my mnke... yes I know hana hasnt said anythign about the mnke and their device but tbh I really don't care I would just throw it in and vape if I had it.. ofcourse its probably going to come with a lipo thats gonna vent on me the first time i drop it.. and if its 18650 ready im sure itll need a ....ing button top so i better look for one to add to my order right now... whats the best button top?
In the first part of the description it says this:
'Interchangeable 18650 battery (Customer may use their desired battery)'
So im assuming it must not come with a lipo.
Also the first round is apparently closed now (think i got one of the last blues, blacks were gone).
Oh just kidding I chose red.. thought I chose black but oh wells.. really don't care what color I get.. I am more concerned with the quality of the clone... but I am not that worried, its almost worth the price just to see if these clones are what they're cracked up to be, and I will definitely write a review once I have mine in hand.
PS: I am really stoked to hear that it comes 18650 ready and no LiPo.. if this thing even FIRES then I will be dancing like a very very happy man![]()

I look at it this way, even if the chip is a complete piece of crap and i can mod/fit a real DNA 30 chip in it, its probably worth it.
Would probably have half the cost just for parts to build my own case, not including time, definitely don't think i could have one machined out of aluminum for any cheaper than $50 (and that's with no buttons, connectors, battery cradles, etc figured in) and greatly prefer the aesthetics of hana style boxes over the hammond boxes etc.
Wow, NA resellers are pricing these in the low $70s? Chances are they'll be even cheaper on FastTech! I don't know whether to be pleased or 'spicious. DNA30 goodness for less than the price of a Sigelei 20W? Granted, this doesn't have that tiltometer stuff in it, but still...

So it's on evolv then, everything traces back to evolv lol.. they are huger than huge right now and need to expand and not make deals with zen before the chip is even released.. I feel like the reason the mods can sell for that much is the sheer fact that those chips are rare considering how many people want them.. once more of them are in our hands the price of the newer dna30 mods that come out should be a bit lower.. until then .. fill the 101vapes pre order already?!The Board is also a clone.
I don't think you can patent the Hana - it's an Aluminum box, the chip does everything.
Vapor Joe had a photo of one of the clone DNA boards, only difference was the tactile switches on the board
We still don't know how well they perform though, they could be bloody awful.
*edit*
After looking at photos of the board I've noticed that there's a good few differences, these may be 33.3hz based much like the cloned kicks.
Just because one company makes a chip with filtered PWM doesn't necessarily mean the rest of them are following suit.
On the surface, the first Kick clones looked great but they were 33.3hz.
