I built up another Plus to be my desk mod at work.

@Steamer861 , do I have the spacing right on the coil? Looks like I could wrap my clapton sticks a little tighter next time.

My first attempt at this build leaked horribly. Pulled the deck back out and redistributed the tails and all seems good now. The instructions said to use a min 75% VG or it might leak, I am using 50/50 so that might be part of the issue.

Still surfing for the right Temp/juice/air flow to get the most flavor out of my Peach Meddley juice. But really liking this atty for a desk mod, wouldnt want to use it as a pocket mod though. Checking the coil is a bit messy as compared to the Merlin, but all in all it seems like a decent atty.

First off I'm glad you like it :) It's well built, it will hold up well, long term, it has rock solid residence (Perfect for TC) If you like the vape you'l be set for a long time :)

The coil looks perfect to Me, the spacing & the positioning are bang on :)
The wicking is crucial, a bit too tight & it chokes off the flavour, a bit of trial & error will find the sweet spot, I'm assuming it will be a little different with Rayon?
It feeds juice from the bottom, so when removing the deck the whole bottom cap is a bit wet, You have to grab it by the 510 threads or it gets all over your hands :(

It is a Big atty, it's tall & wide, but the capacity is great, specially on those busy days when more refills are a hassle.
BTW FT sells a 5mil kit for it to, just incase you want to shrink it down :)
$4.69 Authentic Steam Crave Aromamizer Plus Optional Conversion Kit (7 Pieces) - 5ml extension kit (chimney + glass tank) at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

The single coil deck is Great! You would think a huge atty like this would like the duals? But I love it with a single coil, all be it a Large one :D

Ever have one of those days when reality isn't working? I had a Vapefly Galaxies MTL RDTA sitting on my desk since I put a Kayfun 5 on a Triade. Well today I put the Galaxies on another Triade and it said the resistance was 1.5 ohms. What? It is a 10 wrap 28g Ni200 coil. That just can't be. Well just firing it as Ni200 @ 450F and giving it 10 watts and see what happens.

Vapor shot out from a pin hole like a hole in a steam pipe. Very strange. Whatever tossed that coil in the trash and wrapped a 7 wrap Ni200 coil. That reads .071 ohm. Great, that is what it should be. Fiddled with the settings and I turned off preheat since it was getting to 450F instantly. Well I have it set at 7 watts and it is still getting to 450F. o_O

Bill, not all atties are created equal, especially for TC, A good solid connection from the board thru the 510 all the way up to the coil is essential. Thats another issue I had with Nickel wire, it wasn't strong enough to get a good tighten on it under the atty screws, with out it breaking :( Loose atty grub screws is a nightmare for TC
Maybe you should come over to the "Dark Side" Join Us & try some Titanium wire!
I use 24 or 26 gauge, it's sturdy! You can really tighten it down under the grub screws & eliminate one bad spot for resistance fluctuation. No one makes Ti in a Clapton variety, So we twist our own! it's semi satisfying to twist up your own, Just Saying!

Sorry Mike I missed that the first time I read your post, I was busy checking out all your nice pics :)

With my little janky home made Clapton Jig, I create a little bit of tension on the wrap spool with the spring & nut in the pic, this tightens the wraps :)

I dunno, Steamer. I routinely file the business end of the grub screws flat to eliminate that annoying wire cutting cup. I also file the clamp side of the mounting post to try to get it flat from the over drill that also cuts wire. Even with all that I have to triple the wire, 26 gauge Ti, under the post screw to avoid cutting it off and sometimes that doesn't help either. Maybe I overdo it when I tighten things, beats the heck out of me. I do like my Wiha hex drivers though!

I did manage not to cut a recent nickel build by using 30 gauge twisted. Between the extra "meat" and the tempering effect of twisting it the coil was pretty much like Ti from Temco and the grub screws in the Merlin I installed it in didn't cut the wire.

I do the same on my screws, file the sharp cup off the end to make them flat and I filed the over drill out on all the posts of all my decks, took some time but now life is much better not cutting wires & having to start over. :-x

I use a lot of Claptons now, but haven't had too many wiring cutting episodes on Ti.
I don't prepare my grub screws either :) Using Ni was a different story, twisting or Claptoning would bring the resistance down way too low, so I used a lot of simple round wire builds on Ni :(

I just used a fishing line swivel and a drill, held the wrap spool core with my fingers, need to hold the wrap spool tighter next time.

Maybe the wrap could be a little tighter Mike but with clapton wrap wire that large the wire will always open up spaces when you wrap your final coil. 36 or 38 gauge is all I use for claptoning. The 38 is hard to see even while wearing a jeweler's visor. 36 isn't too bad. Also, the drill and swivel method to clapton wire works great, but I did replace the swivels with a bearing on my jig. Tension is done by holding the spool with finger and thumb in the spool holes. Hint: remove the paper label from around the spool holes for smoother feed tension control.

Agree, thinner wrap wire is better. I tried 32 gauge Ti wrap & it broke too easy :(
It was near imposable to get that nice tight wrap. The spool tension & larger gauge really helps here :)
SS on the other hand is stronger at smaller gauges, I can use a 36,8 even 40 gauge wrap N/P

You guys are just going to keep this up until I cave and get a Plus aren't you.... :sneaky: I won't name any names Steamer and Mike but some really aren't helping.. Sigh...what's the best price on one of those? Spent money on myself with a couple new bang bang toys lately, may have to wait a bit, feeling guilty. Going to pick up my new 30-06 tomorrow, I should be all giddy but I really do feel guilty although I got it on a hell of a sale with a $50 rebate to boot, I'll end up with a decent ($400) rifle for only $210, how do you pass on that?? Guaranteed to hold at least a 1" MOA ;)

BTW, GREAT movie if you haven't watched it yet, Russell Crowe playing Noah :thumb: May not be for everyone but I really, really enjoyed it! Watched it this afternoon, it's on demand on Spectrum here or you can watch it online, spammy popup Russia website but I use it from time to time, uBlock helps some, Watch Noah (2014) Full Movie on FMovies.to

$35 to $37 on FT Willy, only problem is they have no single coil deck there yet :(
Single coil deck on SC site for another $10 :)
The V2 25mm is on FT for $29 to $31 FT has single coil deck for it on their site $8 :)

If you wait for 10% off sale, you could get the V2 & the single coil deck for about $35 :)
BTW the V2 is very similar to the Plus just a bit smaller :)

I wish I could see well enough to wrap with 40. Must be nice!

Thank you Steamer, you guys finally got my interest, I've just gotta try one now.... Once I saw this pic I was like, yup, yup, gotta try that, with some real high VG I like to use. :) Gonna need more glass cleaner for my office now... So dual coil deck, I'll play with that too, first actually, I have that Ni200 Clapton wire Bill turned me onto. That's the deck that it comes with, correct?

Here I go down another rabbit hole... "Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in"

Well when my Vapecige box cleared Customs in LA I closed my dispute with PayPal, the 180 days time frame ends in a couple of days (14th) so I proceeded to open/reopen dispute. Nope, can't open another once closed. The price we (I) pay for an education these days.
