I cheat, I just use a good hot soldering iron and solder a ball on a flat top.

These are for a certain type of flashlight that needs button tops.

There is not a very large space for the button to go into in a ProVari...altho the solder glob could be re done till right or filed.

Adjust size of solder to suite the application.

Just be QUICK, dont dawdle, you dont want to transfer too much heat to the bat. And good flux is mandatory.

Yeppers, I have all good stuff (old, but good)
Probably should use the silver solder vs. the lead tho.
(I have a ton of the old treasured 60/40 solder)

Whew, that's a lot of metal.
Havent vaped it yet, but the next Aromamizer Plus I build will get one of these. A dna 250 with enough preheat ought to handle it. Might do just 3mm instead of the 3.9mm though.

And while I am thinking about it...
What's the easiest/safest way to totally drain out a battery designated for the recycle bin ?
I want to pull the button tops off of them and keep them.

Now that is a great idea!

Sitting down, facing forward.
I think Orbtronic still lists a bunch of button tops, but they're usually lower discharge rates and have built-in protection since they're geared for different applications.

Got up the morning to 50 degrees. Now the wind is shifting around and it's supposed to be 8 tomorrow morning.

Aaaaaand, vigorously scuff the batt contact with 220 sandpaper first. That alone will cut the heating time in half with some contact platings.

I tend to shy away from the protected ones, they often have trouble fitting some stuff because of that extra 1-2mm.

The ceramic pin is nice because I can install the coil and then pulse it at 600F a few times with the pin still in there, seems to set the shape and reduce distorting the coil when I wick it.

BTW, the reason I limit it to 600F is because I am using TI, with a lot of other metals you could glow it red and work out the hot spots BEFORE wicking.

Just be careful, if you work it long the ceramic will get hot, too hot for fingers.

Bill, if you need more grub screws FT has a bunch, some time ago I ordered a bunch of stainless from them that were supposed to be flat faced, when I got them only about 30% were, the rest were the cupped style. I don't see the SS flat face listed any more but I did find these so I ordered one packet, I'll let you know if they are any good.

They are called "Ceramic Thread Guides" and are very common on Textile machines. They come in all shapes and sizes. I get them at work, we have all kinds

The round ones look like they would make good knife sharpeners.
Us electricians take the center tube from an old HID bulb for sharpening.

You can still get the treasured 60/40 leaded solder no problem, it's just "not compliant" for manufacturing. I get most all my electronics needs from Arrow since they have free overnight shipping no minimum order. Don't know how they do it for small orders, but they do. Caveat, if you order something that can't go air it is still free shipping but goes ground without a warning. The MG chemicals water soluble flux pen I ordered along with other things made the order go ground is how I know.

...I'm kinda good with solder :)

Try this with a Weller 25W iron:

Note the top left beside the chip. Thats the width of the ground down to a point tip where I put a little too much pressure down.
