we're doing, willy! mighty glad you stopped by!

and while you're busy overhauling your jeep i'm still not done with my project

Glad to hear everyone is well, we take life for granted when we have our health and are feeling good, we should soak in every minuet of every day! I spend too much time sitting on my .... not feeling like doing anything, not the way I planned on my later years. Then when a good day comes I'm all at it 110% getting stuff done that I'll over do it and next day I'm back on my .... again, don't think I'll ever learn. But it sure does feel good to get jobs done and know "I can still do that."

Mech in a bottle LoL, I could use a 55 gallon drum on that! When I was at the auto supply yesterday the guy behind the counter asked if I needed anything else, I told him I'd take the biggest can of ambition that they had.

Sitting down, facing forward.
I bought a can of paste wax for the truck the other day. When I got done paying for it, the clerk asked me if he could help with anything else. I said "Sure, come on outside and put the wax on for me!". Unfortunately, he declined to be of assistance ;)

10 PM, that's enough for one day... Came in for eats this evening, took a two hour nap than back out to get some more done. All pieces made and in place, 80% of the welding is done, if all goes well I should have my Jeep back on the road by tomorrow evening.

I'm pooped, sore and tired, time for a pain pill, vape and ginger ale. Then decide, put on a funny movie to fall asleep to or rain soundtrack, I sleep better with the rain but fall asleep quicker to TV. Well, anywho, night all, sleep well, see you in the AM. :)

This is one I like, plays for 10 hours! Bunch of these on YT

What's the matter with the mower tibs? Speaking of mower's, my lawn is starting to look like a hay field, I've been ignoring it putting all my effort into getting the Jeep done and I wasn't going to do it during those really hot days we had. Going to be cooler again today, hoping to get both the lawn mowed and the Jeep finished but I never got much sleep last night so I'll be running out of juice early in the day. My back and neck took a beating getting up and down off the floor and being under the truck, then about midnight I started feeling a burn on my neck and forearms, turned the lights on to find I got sunburned, it's from all the welding. Hind sight, I should have realized that, I did that once before but that was back in my 30's. I should have put some sun blocker on, I will today!

make sure you don't forget, willy! ;)

my poor mower is running choppily - sort of how a car acts when it's about to run out of gas ;) so i gotta pull the choke to keep it going :?:. i have high hopes for my repair plan except i got sidetracked when the bottom dropped out of a 1 liter glass bottle of olive oil right on the slate floor in the breeze way! the cat litter i picked up to undo the damage is not cooperating the way i remember ;) but then it is no longer a grayish color but more beige as if it's been bleached :?:

That rain on a metal roof would keep me awake, the TV not much of a problem, though.

Our lawn is getting a little "long in the tooth", too. I haven't mowed in over a week, since the big microburst came through and still need to go pick up branches. That kind of worked out, though, since we had another one, not as severe, yesterday that brought some more down. We didn't plant a garden this year and I roto tilled it, anyway, about a month ago. Now the weeds are almost two feet tall out there. I'll weed wack it, then rototill it all back in again.

Try some Knights Spray Nine on the olive oil, Tibs. That stuff can clean caked grease off an old engine block.

Is it a riding or push mower? Either way it sound's most likely you've got a fuel flow problem, if it has a filter inline on a fule hose that needs to be checked or just replace. If no filter on a hose then the filter on the carburetor itself is likely causing the clogging problem. A restricted fuel flow is why it runs better with the choke partially on. When the choke is on, that reduces the air flow, turning the choke partially on is bringing the air/fuel mixture back into balance, less fuel getting feed, less air needed to keep it running. On some small engine carbs, with the choke on, that also helps pull a little more fuel in on those little carbs.

It's a common problem with a lot of push mowers that are say, 10 or more years old with Briggs & Stratton engines, new models are different setup. If it's the newer style, try leaving the gas cap loose, some of the newer ones the vent in the cap meant to let air into the gas tank can clog and the tank creates a vacuum and once that happens it won't get the fuel flow it needs, like it running out of gas, see the video below.

On those older style B&S carburetors there is a very fine mesh screen made out of plastic that is part of a tube attached to the carb that picks the fuel up from the gas tank. The carb is screwed right onto the gas tank, that tube w/filter sticks down into the tank. It's a fairly easy job to take apart, the tube is pressed in, a few twists and it comes right off the carb. I pull the tube off, spray some of the carb cleaner into something like a skinny pill bottle and soak the tube/screen over night then spray the screen out from the inside with carburetor cleaner and it will clean it out. A visual look at that screen won't show it's clogged, it's really fine mesh like a silk stocking, but if you try to blow though it you'd find it very hard to even get air through it. Over time it will gum up from gas going bad, usually from being left in it during the winter months, that's enough to restrict the flow. If it's a push mower, is it also harder to start then when it was new? That is another symptom of the screen clogging up. I can see if I can find a post with good pics showing how to take the older style apart or maybe a youtube video showing the steps to fixing that type.

My one neighbor, the town drunk who use to be the UPS driver, well until he lost his job after his 3rd DWI, he went to work in a snowmobile shop, he tells everyone he's the "head mechanic" He has a older style push mower that has that problem, it's been like that for the last two years, I've seen him numerous times trying to get it started and messing with it trying to figure it out, he has to use ether to get it running then it spits and sputters the whole time he's mowing, I laugh, the head mechanic can't figure it out LoL. Little does he know, the snowmobile shop he's working at, my cousin owns it. I had a chat with my cousin, he told me he's does odd jobs around the shop and small jobs but he's no great mech, he laughed when I told him he's been telling people in town he'd the top tech.

This guy has some really good tips! I enjoy watching him too.

Here's a video how to clean that fuel pickup tube that clogs, it's a pretty straight forward task. You'll see that tube once he get the carb off the tank, on the two I've clean that screen was plastic mesh, the one in the video is metal but all the same.

I have subscribed to Steve's Small Engine on the youtube. My first stop for chainsaw, mower and weedeater problems. Informative and entertaining.

btw it starts without a problem but starts sputtering after a few minutes ;)

If the fuel treatment doesn't make any improvement it might be dirty fuel filter, that running OK for the first few minuets after setting for time is a symptom you'd see if a filter was getting clogged. Could also try loosing the gas cap, don't try that on a full tank, might splash all over, but half or less should be OK. Just like in that first video I posted, if the vent on the gas cap is plugged that too would give you the same symptoms and loosing the cap is easy and no cost to try.

it's a riding mower, willy! and i'm counting on mib to clean up the system without further repair attempts by me :D
Mechanic In A Bottle at Tractor Supply Co.

So that's a real product, I thought you were joking LoL. A guy I worked with in a shop many years ago had a vintage can of spray that had a label of "Fix it Spray", I think it was an early WD-40 kind of oil, smelled like penetrating oil and was water thin. He found it in a garage sale and kept it as a joke on his tool box.

Just came in from mowing the lawn, the Jeep will have to wait another day. I'm tired but at least the lawn looks nice now. I feel a nap coming on.

I stumbled across his videos not to long ago, bored one night I watched a bunch, he's good! I learned some tips and tricks from him, added him to my list also. Following his method I re-adjusted the carb on my weed wacker, got a lot more zip to it now, it hasn't run this good in many years!
