Hey Willie, how's the Jeep turn out? Inquiring minds want to know!

You must of posted as was typing that! I hit "save" and your post popped up ahead of mine! Glad it went OK and hope the exhaust system isn't too much of a beach! I hate exhaust work, heck I hate work!

I've had a busy few days. There was a planning board meeting I wanted to go to on Thursday night and it turned into a marathon. First item was a 500,000 square foot warehouse going in at the border of a "general light industrial" zone and a residential zone. It's less than a mile from us. Convenient how after the general comments by the owners lawyer talking about how many jobs it would bring and what a great "rateable" it will be and public questions, they mentioned tax abatements. Then, after I researched the company building it, I found out that they're actually moving from one town away, a leased warehouse, to this new one which they will own. So much for those 100-150 jobs as well as that wonderful "rateable".

Then they finally got to why I was there, along with about 30 or 40 other local residents. Their lawyer and experts spent almost two hours talking. By the time our side got to talk it was time to adjourn, after 10PM. So we've got to do it all over again next month! I ended up getting home after 11 and that's way past my bed time.

Friday was quiet, but last night I had just gotten into the shower when the Mrs came in to tell me our neighbor called and had an emergency and needed some help. So the shower was a quick rinse off. I hustled over there with my tool bag and found out he has electric heat and one of the thermostats was stuck on. I did pull the thermostat to double check it and it is definitely stuck on. Shutting the breaker off cured the problem for now, anyway. The thing that bothers me is that it's a single pole thermostat on a 220V line. To make it interesting it's wired with 10 gauge wire and the load is only 2000 watts, say a 10 amp load on a 30 amp capable feed. That wire is so stiff getting the thermostat back on the wall was a real PITA. Pushing it in, even after arranging the wiring, pushed the mud ring and box back further than the screws could reach. Lots of cussing with that one. I'll get him a new, double pole, thermostat today and put some 12 gauge, which is still technically overkill, pigtails on to make it easier to get the thing on the wall. I got in bed at 11 last night, again.

Think we just about missed each other's posts, frame work is finally done, exhaust system is left. Not feeling all that great this morning but I'm hoping to put my .... in a paper bag and carry it out to the shop and get this job done, sick of looking at it LoL. The exhaust will take some cutting, mocking up then welding because I bought a cheap catalytic convert and it's smaller than the OEM but it's still not a huge job. Didn't want to spend around $275 on a converter for a vehicle that old, found a universal unit for $50 on Amazon, made in China of course, doesn't look bad though.

brushing seal sealer all long an spot welded seams to keep moisture out and then a quick spray of truck bed coating to protect the bare metal.

What sealer do you like to use?
What bed coating do you use?
Do you do any other prep work to the bare metal before your spray?

I am just an inquiring and empty mind.

This is the seam sealer I used, it's a can I bought probably ten years ago at a NAPA auto store.

I used it about a month ago to seal a pinch weld seam on my wife's car where water was leaking in every time it rained, I was surprised to find it was still good as new when I open that old can! With this stuff you can apply it to bare, primed or painted metal, I first sprayed it all down with brake cleaner to get any oils off the metal, then primed and threw a quick coat of flat black spray paint on it first, it's just what I had on the shelf. Then I found the old spray can of left over spray bed liner, figured that would be additional protection to stones getting kicked up under it. The bed liner spray, I wouldn't buy again, I bought it to coat the new metal I put in my little haul cart I use behind my John Deere, it is no where as tough as the roll on stuff but it's better than nothing and a lot less work. It's also a much smoother texture then the roll on liner, this is what I had left over, bought it at walmart

Next time I'll use something link this that is the roll on stuff, thicker and has much more texture.

Here's a couple pics showing that liner doesn't have a deep texture like the roll on stuff. Click the thumbnails

OK, The problem with the DNA200 was the JST plug! Again! This time not juice residue, some residue that looked like Nolox/ electrical grease? Any way I charged up the old original VT200 lipo, with @dwcraig1's single cell recovery (Thanks For That)
The VT seems to be fine again :)
Now the new 3S lipo I got off Amazon has one Dead Cell :( I mean really dead! .3 volts dead! So I find this video on YT, & this guy fix's a really dead Cell :) Watch from .55, you'l see he has one really dead Cel & fix's it with a "Bench Power Supply"
My question is what's a Bench Power Supply? I tried to charge it with the single cell method & it will not charge that one dead cell :( Both my round cell chargers Error out :(

So I would like to try a Bench Power Supply, If I knew what it was?

A"bench power supply" would be a regulated and, perhaps, manually variable voltage power supply used for testing various types of electronic or electrical devices. In other words, a line powered DC power source that sits on a work bench.

So we're do I get one, for a good price?
I don't want to spend too much. but I have enough lipo's in service to warrant buying one :)

Will some thing like this work? https://www.amazon.ca/YaeCCC-Variab...power+supply&qid=1564938035&s=gateway&sr=8-12

That would probably do the trick and is a little overkill for repairing one battery. I'd look for the cheapest one I could find with, say variable up to 12 volts and a 2 amp or so output. For battery repair I don't think you'd need more than that. Just be careful, you can let out the magic smoke, that makes everything electrical work, with a big bang if you overdo it.

Yes that one will work. The reason why battery chargers usually won't charge low voltage lithium cells is because it is dangerous. But if you want to do it, they say 100ma max for 10 minutes. If the voltage doesn't climb to battery charger ok voltages by then, forget it. They also say charging a low cell within 24 hours of going low is the best time for success.

The thing is once a cell goes low, you can never trust it again. Sure you might get it to recover and all. But some have had the cell explode too at a later date. Personally, saving a few bucks isn't worth the chance for me.

Sound like good advice Bill! The cheapest one I could find $47 is more than a new battery any way. At this point the new battery from Amazon is a spare, all though it is way bigger & probably would last longer (mah) ? Not worth taking a chance!

It's all so too bad these units have a low current out put, (amps) or they could be used as a power supply for a tethered home use mod :)

Oh, they sell ones with more amps if you want them. And some like the ones I have, have isolated outputs so you can hook two or more in parallel or series if you would like. But having a tethered atty, you would need like 12 AWG wiring or something it becomes very heavy and stiff. I did one just to say I did it, but I don't find them very practical at all.

The closest commercial one was the iTaste DRV. It plugged into the cigarette lighter and I believe it was 20 watts max. It had a large dial to select different output voltages. And you can use either a button fire or a draw fire (if it got air through the 510). Used a coiled cord like a CB mic or something and was a bit stiff. I bought one knowing it wasn't going to be very practical, but just for the novelty factor. ;)

Have you checked out Analog Dan's site? He's used multiple Power supplies for his vapestations. Mainly PC or even a gaming power supply. If you check youtube he might've created videos.

Yay! The Jeep is done! Man am I tired and sore but so happy to have that OUT of my shop!! Now I can get back to working on the wife's car... It never ends...

I think you're making the right move Steamer, I know it sucks but having a lipo grenade isn't a pleasant thought. Had an early 200 with less than a weeks use on it go south and it drained the battery to almost zero, wouldn't even light the screen, sent the board back for replacement and bought a new battery pack.

I know it's probably not safe to try and salvage this lipo :( Whats really crappy is on Amazon the price went up! I got this one for $37 Canadian Dollars with Free Shipping (Prime) Now they want $30 plus $24 shipping! This battery is So much bigger than the original HCigar 3S that is in there now, I bet that would equal a lot more run time? And it was only in there for about a week! So basically still new :(
Found this Bargin Bench Power Supply @ FT :) https://www.fasttech.com/products/6023301
    Tempting!
