My spare DX battery will probably stay in long term storage, I have enough mods & batteries on the go now :) It's nice to know I left it in the best state for long term storage :) It was just a fluke for me, cause I had every intention to check it out, but never got around to it :)
I had 3 of my 5 unopened, and after the issue with the black one I decided to test run (charge, cycle, recharge) each one for testing... LOL [emoji23] so apparently I had the right idea, but my check now while I can idea came back and bit me. Oh well. No real big deal. The lipo itself is the cheapest part and easily replaceable for those of us in this thread.

I just pulled it out, it is a Lipo after all, I might have gotten confused with this old Apple laptop that I ran across recently. Anyway It did have enough juice in the battery to boot so it's on AC power now. The AC cord plugs into the laptop directly, no power pack.
I hate the power bricks. I understand why they moved the power supply external, but in the scheme of long term laptop use, I'd prefer to have less to loose. A generic AC plug that plugs in directly to the laptop (ie: like a desktop power supply) is "more better" imho. Those power cords are $2 generally... The last universal power brick for a lost laptop I bought was $40 on sale. :(

Just as I do with replacement laptop batteries I buy the "3rd party " power packs from Ebay. $7 to $20 with great success.(delivered)

Too be honest it sounds a bit like some sort of urban legend to me, but I'll do some research and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for sharing.

"Brand new packs
New lipos ship in a "sleep" state. They have a chemical stabilizer in the cells that help them more easily handle shelf life, and are shipped at a storage voltage of approx 3.85V per cell. This stabilizer is lost when the packs are cycled, so it is important to let the packs remain asleep until they are needed."

3.5, it does have a DVD ROM and 1 USB port.
Started playing around with one of my Aromamizers (Dremel) Crazywires 25 gauge 3 mm twisted two strand duals @ 0.08Ω

Got to be careful with some, my son bought a battery for a older white Mac laptop, and because the battery "never stopped charging" it basically always registered as 99% never 100% to stop the flow AC power, the magnetic power connector melted. (true story) and the power cable was genuine authentic Apple, the battery was not. Just fyi

FLOPPY!!??

5.25" or 3.5"?

[emoji38]
@dwcraig1

Anyone ever seen these... I was watching some vintage computer stuff videos on YouTube the other night, and thought this was an amazing idea if you actually had a purpose for it. I could see some real die hard old school pc users wanting something like this.

Amazon.com: Generic SFR1M44-U USB Floppy Drive Emulator for Industrial Control Equipment: Computers & Accessories

The short summary is its a 3.5" bay device with a floppy connector that accepts a usb drive. The button switches "disks", so the number of floppy images stored would only be dependant on the size of the flash drive. The video said it (or a device like this one anyway) would work with 360k 720k and 1.44mb images, it basically sets itself up in windows and your off.

I wouldn't have a use for it, but obviously somebody does.

This has nothing to do with your request, I just remembered about the device reading the text "FLOPPY!?" LOL [emoji23]
I haven't seen a diskette in eons.

You left out 8", KTM, and don't forget the 12" platters either :w00t:

I built a new machine in February. The mobo doesn't even have a floppy connector/controller on it. That worried me a little, so I though about a USB floppy drive. Then I realized, who needs a floppy drive? Everything boots on CD or USB drives anyway and the stuff I have on floppy I'll never use again. The floppy is going the way of the dodo bird, except in our nuclear missile silos.

The guy behind that website appears to be just a hobbyist. A knowledgeable one it seems, but I would like to see some manufacturers info on this subject instead.

I wasn't able to come up with that on my quick search though, but I did find many user-claims similar to yours.

Since I can't be bothered to look in to this any further I'm going to rule this one as plausible ;)

If you find any, let us know please.

It makes sense that manufactures would do something like this if they could. I am sure extending the shelf life prior to sale would be a concern for them.

That being said, I have watched a lot of videos of Lipo manufacturing processes, and this was never mentioned, but then again, it might be one of those trade secret kind of things.

So 08/ 08/ 16 The dreaded day :(
What actually changes today? I checked a few American web sites,
I can't see any changes. Even 100mg nic is still for sale.
So is the significance of today that the 2 year clock starts to tick down?

age verification requirements kick in as of today for online sales (and b&m sales but that's easily done) ;)
