Give the spool tamer a try if you get a chance, you'll laugh at how easy it is.

I have a few, but never tried it with the dowels, hoping that will work better as it works only OK without them.

I used my dremel, effectively melting off the hub cylinder.

Got an empty spool that will fit the jig? Take a bolt or screw that you can chuck in your drill, put a washer on it, slide it through the spool hole, another washer and a nut, tighten gently and chuck it in your drill then transfer the wire from the fubar-ed spool to the empty one like rewinding a reel to reel tape player. :)

Yeah you need something in front and behind of the wire, like a coil master rod or something else.

Luckily, the spool was still able to spin on the jig. However, I had to twist the 2 core wires after 3 or 4 failed attempts at parallel core wires.
I used a 7/16 drillbit on the hub.

Made a couple of sticks just using the spool tamer. There is a learning curve there too, but it is easier in the long run I think.

One thing I learned, dont use cheap swivels. I was using some old swivels I had in my Kite Bag, the swivels that came with the jig worked 100 times better.

I used 2 pieces of carbon kite rod, 7mm in diameter. They kept walking on me so I taped the ends together, leaving about a 1/16th gap between the rods. No more walking.

So does teflon dry lube on the swivels. That said, my diy claptoning jig doesn't use swivels, rods, guides or wire tamers, just one bearing, one 1/4" bolt and good old fashion hand/eye coordination. :w00t:
