I maybe on to some thing with the AVS SS430 Claptons :) Both the ones I have in rotation are performing very nicely :) Canada Customs may have takin the wind out of my sail with them :(
Tha import duties basically doubled the price! new handling fee? of $9.95 was applied :(
I paid all most $14 in import fees, on an $19.18 order :(

Were is a good place to buy Spools of SS430? preferably in Canada. Maybe if I get just the wire & spin them up my self I can avoid the Huge Custom Fees?

Steamer, the temp would be regulated by the "perfect" hit when the button is pressed. Now what that temp might actually be is the real question, but I do have suspicions that it wouldn't exceed 470F. I think Evolv has even better temperature information than we do and is on the "proactive" side of things for a variety of reasons. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about Evolv and their safety concerns, but I think some "magic" could be going on in the coding, just for the sake of safety.

I bought my SS430 from unkamen. Clean as a whistle but does need to be tempered to be able to work with it for coils.

Hmmm.... Wonder if that trick would work with wife's?
NO! Be wary. My one try with an ex girlfriend ended abruptly. Like right then and there in the car. Wifey will be left when she turns 52. And she's been told that. 5 more years and I get half back. But my metal objects are sentient items that don't talk back so they change their ways

Not necessarily! You set the "Perfect Hit" in Watts mode! I could be wrong? but "Replay" isn't about TC :( If we could set our "Perfect Hit" in TC, mite be a different story?

I have found several places with Spools of SS430, even a Canadian Supplier.
Only issue is they don't have a good selection of wire sizes :(
To build Clapton wire I would need 24 & 30 gauge, only place I found so far is in UK.
There are several in UK, price is not bad! none of them list a shipping option?
I'm good for a bit with the 30 premades I have from AVS :)
I will keep looking around :)

Wicking! can cause these issues? Did you try rewicking? with a bit more wick.
Rewicked daily or hourly 4 days in a row with Rayon. Same setup and Rayon for months.

Did you use the cheapest USPS shipping? I can't say anything more positive, cuz you know .... my next package.

    That's my understanding.

Check that exchange rate! My last purchase was about 1 GBP = 60 cents CDN.

In the video Brandon specifically mentions that "replay" monitors resistance, voltage and current to achieve that "perfect" hit in replay. Like I said, if those parameters are monitored, the temperature is, by default, being controlled. If all that is true, and it has to be to do what they are saying it does, it only takes a little "tweak" in the firmware to limit temperature.

I can live with the exchange rate :) even thou it is pretty bad.
Two big spools one 100' & one 200' is only 16 GBP :) If I could get a cheep shipping rate, even if it took longer I would be in :)
$28 CND for 300' of wire not to bad :) But If shipping is another 15 GPB or even more that it's to expensive for just wire.

it only takes a little "tweak" in the firmware to limit temperature.

Lets hope thats in an update coming soon? If it was an easy fix? You would think they would have it both ways? "Replay" watts & TC?

Yes I did $10 USD for shipping :) Total price just under $30 USD
Some times you fly in under the Customs radar :)
Other times you don't! I had no problem paying the HST under $4 CND, But they put my order in an other package from Canada Post & charged an extra $9.95 "Handling Fee" :(
This is new to me, but they are all ways finding new ways to make you Pay!

Also It comes in @ Richmond not Mississauga maybe thats the difference?

Got my two grand daughter's and one of their friends here for the weekend while my wife and daughter are in NYC. Glad they will be back tonight, I wasn't built to handle three young gals.... I wish I had a 10th of their energy, my God they never stop, sitting still and being quiet is apparently not possible, if I had a nickle for every giggle I'd be richer then Trump LoL. They're watching TV in the bedroom above my office, sound's like there's WWE wrestling matches going on, and I thought boys were rowdy!

I've been lucky, none of my AVS purchases have ever been hit by customs. But they did sting me for duty on one KP order, and it had to be the one with the BFDFT in it...

Health Canada's lap dog's (CBSA) siezed a big order from Yaeliq out of Isreal once. Yizhaq is an awesome retailer though and he sent out a replacement order NC as soon as I let him know it was stuck in Customs.

The SS430 from Crazy Wire in the UK reportedly has a totally different TCR than regular SS430, so I'd pass on their offerings.

I'm sure they will catch up with you, just when you least expect it :)
I really like the AVS coils, I mite just make another Bigger order when I'm running low.
    Premades is So convenient :)

Good to know! It sucks when your expecting some thing & it's another!

My first try with SS430 was from Crazy Wire. I don't remember what I finally ended up using for a TCR on the one and only coil I ever built from that 400 foot order. Now, I use it for baling wire, tying off fencing and as "quick wraps" to hold bundles together. It's good for that, doesn't rust! If you have to guess at the TCR, in my mind, the actual temperature is anyone's guess.

When I say "tweak in the firmware" I mean when they originally programmed it, not going back to add something. It would probably take just an extra "check" of resistance to do that. In terms of actually writing the whole program, a minor "tweak".

It could be limited to 470F, or any other temperature, in the programming. Al that need is the TCR of the coil material and the measured live resistance. I'm not saying they are doing that, but it is certainly a fesability with the right programming and enough available memory. Heck, with careful monitoring from "new coil" the TCR could be stored automagically, resistance measured and power calculated. That wouldn't guarantee temperature without knowing the wire type, but would go a long way.

How would a board determine TCR of an arbitrary wire type without some sort of reference or measurement?

I suppose it could use the boiling point of the liquid, beyond which any additional temperature increase will require a lot more power, but we know the boiling point of e-liquid varies all over the place depending on its exact constituents.
