Happy berfday tibs

Hey I was gonna ask you guys, is there any way to fix an old washing machine that seems to be leaking from the undercarriage? I checked all the fittings & they're totally dry, (btw, this washer & dryer are the only 2 original appliances left, so they must be about 18 years old) or is it time to get a new one? Wasn't really planning on that rn though, we just got a new fridge. [emoji19]

Depending on the design it might be the water pump or less likely the seal on the bottom of the tub. Being that old it will be easier to work on, myself, I hate replacing things I can fix for a lot less but 18 years, may be time to replace. I'd at least take a look at the what the problem is and the cost of the parts, may be an inexpensive fix that could buy you some time so you can snag a good deal when a sale comes along.

Two online places I like to use are these;
PartSelect Appliance Parts and Repair Help
Appliance Parts and Accessories | Appliance Zone

Get the model and ser# off the washer, go to each of those websites and enter the info. You'll find they list the most common parts that fail for the problem you have and at least one of them has video's showing step by step instructions on how to replace the parts for your model. I'd take a look on those websites first, it may guide you what to look for as far as where the leak is coming from.

Thanks Willie, I knew you'd know about this [emoji106] I'll check that out. btw how important is it to get all the water up? It's still dripping a bit & my gf told me as she was leaving for work & so didn't have time to do anything about it & I mean it's not leaking like a crazy amount but enough to spread to under the dryer & behind it, so I threw a couple of towels down, mostly to keep it from getting to the wall, also our utility closet has one of those old vinyl floors & one of those rubber seal where the crown molding usually would go in a regular room. Like this...

Should I be more worried about that? Especially if she tries it again bc she thinks it was bc of a filter she left out (it's the old kind w/ the splash guard/filter).

Thing is I was kind of expecting this and the fridge to go, when we first saw the place before we bought & moved in, I remember thinking both of them looked like they might die soon.

Was grinding day before yesterday and got crap in my right eye I can't flush or get off with a Q-tip. Been hitting the Visine hard hoping it will come out on it's own, I can see a tiny black sliver, looks like it's just setting on the iris but it won't come loose, I even tried a strong earth magnet (from a hard drive) and it didn't budge so it's either into the eye or it's more liekly a tiny fiber from the cut off wheel.

I can't remember the last time I had to have a doctor remove something from an eye. Being a mech I was always getting crap in my eyes but I have always been able to remove it myself or it would flush out on it's own after 24-48 hours. Yes I was wearing glasses, I'm blind without them.... Woke up this morning with that eye really bothering me, it's still there and I don't think this time it will come out on it's own, I have no idea who to see? Should I visit an ophthalmologist or go the the walk in center (not the ER) at the hospital?

While working at the Honda dealership the parts manager was talking to a tech while the tech was beating a bearing race off a shaft with a cold chisel and hammer, a tiny sliver of metal flew off either the bearing race or chisel and hit the manager in the left eye. An x-ray showed it went through his eye was embedded in the eye socket behind the eye, they had to put him under and remove the eye to get the sliver out, luckily he had no permanent vision damage.

And as Norm would say:

Oh yeah dude. Getting crap stuck in your eye sucks, idk if they still lathe brake rotors (probably just replace them) but I did in my training program & I only had to get one sliver stuck in my eye (in the white part) to always remember to use glasses, it wasn't particularly painful but was super annoying. Now I always use them, even when I'm just dremeling something real quick, I grab the glasses first... I just use the 3m ones that look like clear sunglasses.

I'd differently shut both the hot and cold water supplies off until you know where it's coming from. If it's leaking on the supply side and suddenly grows large or a feed hose burst while away you could come home to a lot of damage! If you haven't already since you moved in, replace those feed hoses (from the wall to the washer) with high quality hoses regardless if you repair or replace the washer.

Lift the "hooked" end of drain hose from the wall drain pipe, have a bucket handy, put the hose in the bucket and slowly lower to the floor, lowest you can get it, most of the water left in the internal hoses, water pump and tub should drain out. You probably won't be able to get all the water out when you tip it over to work on it, lay towels down and have plenty more handy! Mine would still have a couple of cups or so of water that I couldn't drain out, how much you'll get depends on the design and if it's draining the tub all the way during the drain spin cycle. If it's not draining the tub all the way you could have a lot of water left inside! There's a lot of space between the outer plastic tub and the inner spin tub.

Btw there's a whole bunch of model #'s
0557dd2bb2e687a6da56603ff2755a40.jpg

There will be a credit card or smaller size label somewhere on the washer that has the model and ser numbers, that label just shows the ratings for all the listed models. Go to the websites, where you enter the model number it will say something like "Need help finding your model number?" click on that and it will guide you where to find it on your washer.

Worst part is if the crud scratches the eye, you can get the crud out and it will still hurt every time you blink for 2-3 days.

Actually, it's feeling better now, I haven't had to keep using the eye drops this morning and the vision has cleared some, maybe it came out last night, I need to check in the mirror. Last night I was putting drops in every 20 min or so, it was really bothering me, I was hoping keeping it wet like tears it would flush loose.

@kiba. Look for a small metal label for the model#. Also, on most Kenmore models you won't have to tip the washer over to service the pump, motor or hoses. The control console can be unscrewed and tilted back, then a couple of clips and the whole sheet metal shell (top, front and sides) slides out the front. Check for vids. The pump and hoses can be installed in 15min.

On a more serious note! I think FT is spying on Me! :(
This can't be just a coincidence, Yesterday I upgraded our phones on line from my providers Web site, I watched a YT video on a certain "Subohm" Tank, I went to Best Buy.com to look for a case, wireless head phones & a wireless charging pad.
Today on my new arrivals page on FT, There are a bunch of new phones, exactly the same kind of cases, (for my new phone) I was looking at on BB.com The very "Sub ohm" tank, & several wireless charging pads, along with some ear buds!
Is it posable they have some kind of "Spywear" logging my surfing habits & coordinating the new arrivals Page? I know this sounds far fetched But my story is True!

This is CREEPY as Heck! How could all this just be a coincidence ?

Could they be tied into (subscribing) Google Analytics? Google tracks 99.99999% of what we do online.

Although I doubt FT would cater that many offerings towards a single user.

The new arrivals page all most identically mirrors my previous days surfing?

Sitting down, facing forward.
It's no coincidence. They're reading the cookies on your browsing history, very simple. In terms of Google/FaceBook, that business model has always bothered the crap out of me...selling user data to make money and collecting more and more, and storing it (why?). Each time you click "Agree to Terms" they've added even more collecting. Can we all say "Big Brother" together? Where's my tinfoil hat?

Ha!!

When I posted about this type of stuff before people think I have my tin foil hat on too tight and I'm nuts. FT isn't spying on you, they sell advertising space on thier website, question is who placed those ads and how did they know what you were looking at?

Google terms like "is my cell phone is listening to me" " is my cell phone spying on me" "is my cell phone tracking me"
Search the same terms on youtube, tons of videos there, not just tin hatter's but legit reports.

Use a voice search on your phone? Have a facebook or google app or account you access through the phone?

Then there is iBeacon, links about it in my prior post here

Now tell yourself the governments don't have access to this info..... A microphone in every home, no wait, a microphone, camera's and a GPS in every pocket! A dream come true for the NSA......

Or just ignore this post, it was just coincidence, it's all good, sleep well. ;)

I get a laugh about the commotion over the NSA collecting metadata while Google/FaceBook/Twitter and company have been collecting far more for far longer, and saving every last byte of that data and sharing it with anyone who is willing to pay for it. No one complained, until recently.
